Not a good experience! If you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway this is not the place. KIDS running around and screaming everywhere!!! Rooms are rather small, windows were dirty and you can’t open them because of the bugs. No mini fridge or safe in room, shower door does not close and so on… Only 5 tables outside for the whole hotel! Restaurant service is slow, seats uncomfortable, no AC in dinning room and they can’t open windows …because of bugs. The staff is nice but clueless. They did not even noticed we booked it to celebrate my GF birthday! On the positive side The surroundings are stunning and Manteigas is beautiful.

Incredible hotel with thoughtful design details throughout. The attention to detail and care of the staff made us feel at home. Massages were some of the best we’ve had - be sure to visit the spa! Service in the restaurant is excellent and the food always fresh and diverse. The hiking around the hotel is varied and interesting with some awe inspiring views. We appreciated the considered separation of children from adults (there’s a separate family lounge area and kids must leave the pool at 6pm) that made our stay a relaxed and comfortable escape. We will be back again and again to this wonderful place.

Wow! There were so many good things to say about this place that is actually is hard to start! I mean, the place is amazing, the purest air in Portugal, beautiful protected nature, breathtaking views. Penhas Douradas is a perfect place to rest and restore our strenghs. The Hotel is amazingly cozy, filled with Burel items that contributes for its coziness, but now think being next to a crackling fireplace while looking outside to awesome nature, or even snow during winter. You have fireplaces in multiples spots in the Hotel. The food is great, always fresh and very mouth watering! You can even try an amazing typical local snack, a serra da estrela cheese with prosciutto toast that can warm your soul even on the coldest of days! Amazing breakfast. The Spa is also very comforting and the massages we got were amazing, finishing in the inside heated pool. The Hotel offers free guided walks twice a day, and we took them all! Get ready for amazing views, learning some history and about mature by two amazing guides. Luis and João, awesome to have met you and thank you for the guided tours! Regarding Covid measures, we couldn't feel any more secure in every aspect! A special word goes to all the staff. Amazingly friendly, considerate and helpful on every single interaction, that will make you feel like you are at your family house. Will be back for sure!

Perfection. The views are beautiful. The pool is really nice and the decks chairs are very comfortable to relax. The decoration is very sleek with mid-century modern pieces. The staff is very friendly and booked us a table for dinner at their other hotel Casa de São Lourenço. We took a junior suite, which boasts a small sitting area. Very comfortable bed and quiet. We had dinner the first night we stayed and food was delicious. Breakfast was well stocked with a lot of regional products too and you can order from a menu if you want something different.

What a location! For some time away from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon and Porto add this to your Portugal road trip - it is worth the detour. The drive is magnificent and the views from the hotel is breathtaking. The staff are excellent and seem to work in the company’s Burel Factory (free to visit and is a gem!) and Casa de Sao Laurenco which just shows how tight knit the company is. Food is great and do have dinner at the restaurant it’s a lovely ambience and well paced. The daily changing set menu at €40 is a steal. Have lunch at the sister hotel the views here are even more impressive. Just a note there isn’t a gym but you can go for a run/hike in great outdoors and there is a small indoor pool that you can book for exclusive use. We look forward to coming back to try their other hotel.

The best hotel I have ever been in. Warm hospitality with kind Staff and magnificent food. Very clean. Spa and pool/sauna were incredible. The hotel also offers activities such as bike riding and tours to the nearby fabric factory. We had a really hard time leaving after 4 nights. Thanks so much for a wonderful time.

Fantastic experience all around. Rooms were beautiful, staff was friendly and I really enjoyed the daily walks they organised.

What an amazing place! Any room was thought to have little spots for the guests to rest, lots of books to read by the fireplace, lots of places to sit and talk with the company of a hot tea or a nice wine when you see the snow outside. The staff is so kind and helpful, but not too much that you feel annoyed. Lots of little gestures and offers that make you feel special. The food was incredible! If you need to rest your head and soul and be absolutely happy for a few days, this is the spot to go!

A more than fantastic stay/experience was had here! From the drive up to the 5-star service given by the staff (all of them, no exception), our stay has been absolutely the best. The surprisingly modern meals we had at the restaurant gave this review the 5th star! It’s unreal how they manage to combine such a professional standard in such close quarters and in such a remote area of the world (akin to being on a small yacht). The chef (chefs?) here is a master at his/her game.

Great place, nice architecture outside and inside, reflecting the tough surroundings outside. Inside very consistent with lots of wood. Excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, lots of local, high quality products. The dinner menu is great!
