Great tour. I loved how the docent was dressed in period type clothes. The tour included the outbuildings. This was something that you don't see very often.

Historic site by Daniel Boone's relatives. Tour inside was not available at my hour of visit but grounds are open from dusk to dark. Playground, gardens, and some unique buildings. Fitting tribute to the enslaved people who helped build and run that place.

Today and until end of April the house is not open but the outside of the house and grounds are open and very historical. Sometime after the house opens back up I would love a tour inside. Their garden with the surround entry has viburnum in bloom and it smells wonderful. The daffodils are also in bloom and pretty. I loved viewing their old farming equipment.

A great historic place in Lexington, KY. Civil War area mansion, old cabins and lots of history. Live re-enacting adds to it. There is a fee, but it is definitely worth it! Great place for family photo shoots, scenery photography and more.

Waveland is a joy to visit! The grounds are beautiful and the tour guide we had was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions thoroughly. Great for visitors and locals alike!

My boyfriend has lived in Lexington for three years now and we had no idea this place existed on the outskirts of town. Worth it to take the tour and then make sure you leave time to walk around the gardens in the back. If anyone is into geocaching, there’s a couple fun ones on site.

I have lived in lexington for over 20 years and yet I had never been here before. What a waste of 20 years, this place is awesome! We came after it was closed so only enjoyed the playground and surrounding area but it is SO beautiful. The trail leads right up to the railroad tracks and we got to watch a train go by super close so my son was overjoyed. Beautiful gardens, a cool little swampy pond, historic objects an building's. So much space, I could imagine they host many weddings and events. Cannot wait to come here again!

Simply beautiful. We catered two weddings there in a month. The venue is gorgeous and perfect for events. They have a building for bathrooms and a barn! Finally took a tour and the lively lady brought the entire family and estate to life. Do not miss this when in Lex!

We didn't do the house tour today, but we walked around the grounds and all of the buildings. It is such a beautiful area, right in the middle of one of the busiest parts of Lexington. Daniel Boone Bryan and his family lived here at one time, and it's a very important part of Kentucky and Lexington's history.

What a gem! I didn't realize this was here. We thoroughly enjoyed Afternoon Tea. Were served 2 different kinds of delicious tea w/ our 3 courses of finger food, scones w/ spread, & desserts. During tea was different forms of entertainment mostly in form of short history informatives. After tea, a tour was included that was most fascinating. The servers & tour guides were dressed in period clothes. We enjoyed the grounds & gift shop after our tour. This is an afternoon I'd recommend to anyone that likes "Tea time" & history. *Reservations must be made for tea well in advance & unfortunately you must be persistant. Is very difficult to get a call answered w/out leaving a voice mail message which they may or may not receive or return.

I give it a four stars because there are no handicap accessible facilities. There are actually no handrails at all! A guest fell on the steps and had nothing to hold on to to prevent her fall. This being a state park is unheard of! Please put these in at your facilities.

Here I am 59 years later going to Waveland, a place I went on a field trip back in 4th grade. What a memory refresh.

Enjoyed Tea and a tour. The food was delicious as was the Elmwood Inn tea. The entire experience and tour was a delight. Can't wait to go back for the October Tea delving into the peculiar, curious and bizarre Victorian customs. The Christmas Teas may also become an annual event.

Four stars because yhe hardens aren't as well kept as the home. I would give our tour guide 5 stars. She was a delight, and really knew the family's and property's history.

A hidden gem, must see! Kathy, our guide was amazing. She has been working here for 15 years, and is so knowledgeable. We were the only two people for a 10:00 tour, and found her information so thorough and engaging, that our tour went for an hour and a half. The Mansion interior is gorgeous. And unlike many tours, where the furnishings and items are behind a roped off area, here one is able to walk right up nose to nose with all of the furnishings and relics to really get a great view of them and tremendous pictures too. Kathy was also very gracious in posing for many pictures in her beautiful purple period costume. The collection included several items which I had never seen before, for instance: a sewing bird ( combo pin cushion, thread snipper, and fabric clamp ), candle wick cutter, outdoor crank water pump, and an incredible collection of plastic fake foods in the kitchen and dining room.

My family and I celebrated my niece's 40th birthday with a weekend visit to Waveland. We love historic house museums, and Waveland was a wonderful choice. Our tour through the mansion was very satisfying, with an engaging, informative docent dressed in period clothing to show us around the house and another great guide to take us through the out buildings. Every bit as impressive as the lovely home was the beautiful property surrounding Waveland. Prior to our visit, we contacted the director about setting up a pop up picnic on the grounds. She was a gem to work with, so accommodating and excited for our plans. She assisted us by offering several choices of gorgeous, out-of-the way spots that allowed us to find the perfect location for our special day. Waveland boasts two manicured gardens, a shady lawn, a walking trail through a wooded area, mown fields, a playground, and picnic tables. While we were there, we noticed families taking pictures, children playing on the playground equipment, and a group preparing for an after-hours performance on the lawn. It seems like a fantastic place for families to learn about the fascinating history of the people who lived and worked at Waveland while also enjoying all the outdoor space has to offer.

Ok, so I’ve never been in the house, but we’ve gone to the grounds on several occasions and had a blast. There’s a cozy little playground there, but lots of room for the kids to run around and pretend play. There were all sorts of tree branches and pine cones and different types of nature, and they set up a thriving economy of a marketplace in the playground with all the treasures they found. We had fun walking around the little pond and looking at the flower garden as well. We also came here for family pictures once, and the lush greenery, gates, benches, and brick walls provided the perfect backdrop for our photos. I want to come back and tour the home, too!

I have never actually toured inside the Waveland estate. I take my children to Waveland for fun outside. We explore the gardens and the .25 mile nature trail. There is also a little playground and sandbox (maintained) that they can play in while I can sit at a picnic table and maybe read a book. There is also clean restrooms. Visiting just the grounds is free and open to the public.

Lovely relaxing Tueaday Tea service. Delicious strawberry kiwi blend and adorable tasty season treats! Very informative tour.

Our tour guide was very informative. A retired school teacher who really knew so much about the history of the family and home. She answered every question we had with complete knowledge. Plus, we were the only ones on the tour which was even better.

Love walking the Grounds to clear my mind. Picnic tables throughout the property are great picnic options or just destination to sit outside and read a book. =)
