The 86 Coffee Bar

Cafe Coffee shop

👍👍 One of my favorite places around the UC campus. My go to is a vanilla matcha latte. The baristas always deliver. There is good wifi and extension cords everywhere for power. If you’re looking for a chill place to work this is it. The only let down: they don’t have whipped cream ☹️ People often mention coffee, shop, good, work, time, late, shops, atmosphere, people,

I’m originally from Columbus and desperately wish we had The 86 up here. The barista was incredibly friendly and recommended the white chocolate mocha, which was amazing. It’s large enough where you never need worry about finding a cozy spot to study. I would recommend this place to anybody

My favorite coffee shop in the UC area. I got the bottomless pour plus a chocolate cheesecake muffin (they have a good selection of breakfast bites and you can also bring in food from the deli next door or other places). No problems with their free WiFi. Lots of seating including upstairs and a nice patio out back.

The coffee was excellent! It was so smooth, creamy, it just hit the right spot. The coffee was strong but it wasn't overpowering. Absolutely the best coffee in Cincinnati! We'll definitely be back! Omg their sleeves have the most awesome messages and they are all different. Such a cool place! Love it! And the macadamia nut milk was killer! So good

The 86 is such a cute coffee shop! It’s very popular in the area especially for UC and Xavier students. While this makes for a very great working environment, it’s popularity means there isn’t always room to find a seat or a table if you plan to work in person. Make sure you show up early to secure a table!

Honestly one of the best Coffee Shops I’ve seen! My wife and I have been trying different ones! With us Roasting our Own Coffee and selling some! This was very interesting 🧐! I will let the pictures tell my story! Praise the Lord for this place 👍🏿❤️

I really like the coffee. However, I don’t think the baristas’ service really is good. I’ve been there a couple of times and I always get some attitude from them. Not to mention how I get my order really late because they talk too much with the their friends or they take pictures.. etc. I have been holding my comments for a long time, but the baristas’ service needs to improve and they need to treat the customers better, and make the priority of getting the orders fast because they always make me late for my morning class.

This is a fun trendy spot! As a person who has to “work”‘out of coffee shops often - I loved the multi-plugs and appreciated the casual atmosphere. The coffee was piping hot and so good!

I grabbed a quick coffee here while in the UC area. Relaxing spot to get some work done and plenty of space to sit on the two levels. Friendly staff and barista made her design with such ease.

Nice place! Music wasn't too loud, wifi fast. Plenty of room to sit. Ordered a pour over and it tasted nice and clean although it was way too much coffee for a single person. 😅 Friendly folks behind the counter. Price was reasonable for the amount of coffee I received. Recommended!

Stopped in after a day at the zoo with 4 adults and 4 kids and it was fantastic. Kids enjoyed smooties and adults all had different coffees. The latte was both beautiful and delicious. Better than the drinks...the service! Both employees were top notch. Friendly, helpful and kind. One of our kiddos spilled her smoothie and the employees helped us quickly clean it up and then made her new small cup of smoothie. It was not at all expected and super sweet. Highly recommend and would stop again.

This is one of the nicest independent coffee houses in the area, my main complaint lies in the hours. Which is somewhat typical of every new independent coffeehouse opened in the last 20 years in this region. You have old standby university area coffee shops here like the Highland and Sitwell's, which understand the idea of a late night coffee shop close to University campus where people are going to come and read in socialize (at least Sitwell's used to until they changed ownership,). But the 86, like other newer ones, don't have this idea in mind. EVEN THOUGH you often have it nearly full at its early closing hour, which clearly indicates that they're going to have continued walk in traffic for some time, they always close shop early. I don't get it, they're literally right across the street from a university campus, how does that even make sense? I think you just have a generation of coffeehouse owners who are disconnected from the past culture of coffeehouses, of old places like the old coffee houses of North Beach San Francisco or Greenwich Village New York, that inspired the first wave of independent espresso shops across the country decades ago. You can tell people who grew up in that coffeehouse culture because the understand the idea of late night coffee shops. The kind you hear about in Tom Waits songs. But for some reason, over the last 20 years there's a change in coffeehouse culture and the people opening and managing these places have no concept of the simple idea of keeping a place open at least until 10:00 p.m. . You will still make money, you just need two less employees to justify it. But I guarantee you a coffee shop open till 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. works. they are across the street from a university campus, they will continuously have walk traffic. What's the proof? Look at Highland Coffee House down the street, it's always packed to the brim until 1:00 a.m. and the original coffee house that was at this location long ago, The Buzz, which was more of a generation millennial haunt, was open late night and continuously packed. if you leave it open they will come, it's not a rocket science formula. What frustrates me is that the 86 is a good coffeehouse is the kind of place I would come in and spend money in at 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. or even midnight IF IT was open that late. I've also heard other people complain about this, so there's more people out there who would like that option. During normal business hours, it's a pretty good place. I definitely enjoy coming here

I really love this place! The atmosphere is amazing, and the service is great. I got a Caramel Blended Crème, which I highly recommend. I have not been able to find any other drink like it. If you're a college student it's the perfect place to write or read.

The coffee is obviously amazing, but honestly I really love the atmosphere, the music makes me feel like I’m in a Charlie Brown special haha. Also, the people who work there are very friendly and welcoming which is important to me because I don’t know much about coffee nor do I know what to get some times but they don’t make me feel like I’m being judged. Many other coffee shops scare me for that reason because it feels like I have to be an expert lol. Anyways, I always feel like I’m starting the day off right when I go in there for an early morning coffee. Would recommend!

Hands down the best coffee shop in Cincinnati. They roast all of their coffee in-house and partner with other local small businesses and artists for their food, decor, and shop. The two-story location has a lovely outdoor patio as well as plenty of seating for studying and socializing. Their hours are also great for students and locals alike to grab a coffee both before and after work/school.

Out of about fifty coffee shops I've been to around the country, this is my single favorite. Perfect atmosphere, kind baristas, great music, and pneuma coffee is fantastic. The only thing they could do is add a few more pastry/bakery options. I absolutely love this place. Will be sad to not have the 86 when I move to LA.

Pretty popular place, given its location right next to the college campus. If you go during a popular time it may be really hard to find a seat/table, but the drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is amazing otherwise. They even have rotating art showcased on their walls, available for purchase.

Tried the chocolate cheesecake muffin and the hot chocolate while I worked there one evening. They were both absolutely, completely horrendous, easily the worst items I've ever gotten in a coffee shop; I couldn't even finish the hot chocolate. Have also gotten the coffee, and it was mediocre at best. The baristas are pretty unwelcoming and spend the entire time chatting up their significant others who will stand by the counter. Really the only positive was the power outlets and their extension chords. I even thought the music was bad and uncomfortably loud. Seriously surprised at how highly-rated this place is, was probably the worst experience I'll ever have with coffee shop items.

Best Hot Mocha Coffee, amazing Hot Chocolate. Love this shop first time but not my last. Service is just as good as the coffee
