Went for a late lunch and had an amazing experience! The food was DELICIOUS and I really love the salsa variety that comes complimentary instead of just 1 salsa. Everything was so tasty, and the Spanish sangria was good too.

I wish I could give this place no stars. We went there for my birthday and they said it would be a 20 minute wait. They had a ton of open tables but they were waiting on a waitress to open up. We sat there for 40 minutes and they sat 5 parties that had came in after us. We went and asked how long and the hostess was so rude. I don’t know her name but you can’t miss that hair style half one color half the other. She told us our urgency was not her emergency and that is asking when our table was ready wasn’t going to help us be seated any faster. She used dirty language to my husband and I in front of our 16 month old child. I have never had someone speak to me like that in a professional setting and I was shook that Abuelos had someone like that working for them. I used to love eating here and enjoyed it but my family and I will never set foot in another one. My bad experience there was definitely one that will not be forgotten. Customer service is everything in a business and they have the worst that I have ever seen.We left and went to a little Mexican food restaurant town the road that blew this place away. The food was great and the service was even better!

After reading several positive reviews about this restaurant, I was confident that it would be good, and thanks to Google Reviews it ended up being a great choice. Pretty much all the 1-star ratings had more to do with the service rather than the food. I did not experience any poor service whatsoever. Not only was our server very friendly and attentive, but another server volunteered to take our picture after she saw us struggling to get a group selfie. Food-wise, for starters, the chips and salsa were absolutely amazing. They were thin and crispy, and the 3 different sauces gave a variety of flavours. The best one hands-down was the green one. I knew there was something citrusy about it, but I couldn't figure out what fruit it was. After asking the server, we found out it had pineapple in it. It was subtle and not overpowering. When we were out of chips, our server brought a new batch without us having to ask for more. One small recommendation: the larger circular dishes should be used instead of the square ones, because it's not easy to dip the chips and they don't hold enough salsa. For my main dish, my burrito was absolutely perfect. The shredded beef was tender and easy to cut into. The guacamole was buttery smooth. The rice was fluffy, not hard like with many mexican restaurants I've been to before. 5 stars all the way!

Lunch at Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant - A Pleasant Surprise After wrapping up our errands at Hulen Mall, my husband and I, driven by a spontaneous hunger, decided to try out Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant. The decision, influenced by the positive reviews we read, proved to be a delightful one. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and our preference for a table in the bar area was graciously accommodated. The service started on a high note with our waitress, Vanessa, who was not only extremely pleasant but also instrumental in guiding my menu choice - a touch I particularly appreciated. My husband kicked things off with an El Jefe Margarita. The drink, which I admittedly sampled more than once, was a refreshing twist on the classic margarita, enhanced by a grilled orange slice and Agavero Orange Liqueur - a delightful deviation from the norm. Before delving into our main courses, we indulged in the chips and salsa trio. The Salsa Tropical, with its unique blend of tomatillos and pineapples, was particularly delightful. The Salsa Especial packed a lot of flavors, and, finding the Salsa Roja a tad bland, I found myself mixing the two for a perfect balance. For my meal, I opted for an appetizer as my entrée, choosing the Green Chile Quesadilla on Vanessa's recommendation (Thank you again, Vanessa). The blend of chiles, mushrooms, and onions was a flavorful journey, although a bit more cheese would have been welcome to balance the filling. My husband, meanwhile, settled on the Fajita Trio - a combination of Angus beef, chicken, and barbecue shrimp. The fajitas were satisfyingly good. However, there was a slight textural oddity with the beef, possibly due to the cut or the thin slicing, that felt unusual but didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the meal. Our lunch experience at Abuelo’s was marked by great service and good food. It stands out as an excellent choice for a casual meal, managing to deliver a satisfying dining experience without being overly pretentious. Abuelo’s, in our experience, handles the essentials of a good Mexican meal with commendable proficiency.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the drinks and main plate.. but we received the complementary chips and salsa. The only one we liked was the brown one (charred salsa verde) and chips were fresh. My husband had the enchiladas and el jefe margarita.. he was disappointed with enchiladas. Said they were tex-mex which we expected when we didn't see a single Hispanic anywhere lol. This was our first time here so we don't know anything about this place and never had recommendations to come here either. I had the fajita combo and a regular margarita. My shrimp was cooked perfect. The chicken and beef were basic. Wasn't bad. The higher rating is because the service was great. He didn't look like he would have been a good waitor but he was lol.

Ordered the best chicken off the main menu! You must try it! Easy to make at home too, just google a recipe. Careful, it will start a craving! PECHUGA CON CALABAZA (chicken with squash) Lightly sautéed chicken breast in a spicy, creamy sauce with zucchini, chiles and corn, with slow-cooked charro beans and Mexican rice. (1040 cals)

The El jefe marg was delish, the food & service was great. I had received several recommendations to try this place and I’m very glad I listened! I wasn’t disappointed in any of the items I tried. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. I can say, I highly recommend this place and I really can’t think of anything I didn’t like.

They got rid of stuffed chicken medallions.. but you can still get the 7 layer dip if you ask. Been a while since we have been. But it was soooo good still!

So good! Food was great! Service by Rudolfo was on point! He was ahead of the game and we didn't have to ask for things..he could look at our table and tell exactly what we needed! Rudolfo needs to be promoted to training all staff on excellent customer service! My boyfriend and I eat out alot at nice restaurants and they all need Rudolfo's working for them!! He's extremely polite too!

The first restaurant I had to visit coming back to Dallas after 15 years. I was extremely happy that the high quality of both food and service has held up. The menu has changed but the components of the dishes are more or less the same. I still love the jalapeño-stuffed bacon-wrapped shrimp, which comes as an appetizer or as part of entrees, and I tried the perfectly tender blackened chicken smothered in a delicious cream sauce. Oh, and I absolutely recommend swapping out the beans with papas (mashed potatoes) if your entree doesn’t come with it.

This place was great. I didn't even know it was over here by the mall. Went for lunch on a Thursday. Party of 3. Sat immediately so that was awesome. It wasn't to busy at all. The environment was nice, very open and spacious. They had some good music playing as well. They started us out with chips n salsa. They had 3 diff types instead of just one bowl like other places. We went ahead and ordered a cup of cheese as well. Very tasty. I ordered a side salad very late after our first appetizer but our waitress immediately went to make and grab it for me!! Oh I got their strawberry lemonade to drink and it was great. Anyways, I'm a big guy so of course I ordered The Grande. It comes with a mix of enchiladas, fried pepper, small tamale, rice/beans and a taco!! The enchiladas I'm chillie sauce was so delicious!! The taco was great as well. I was very happy with how everything was prepared. It tasted fresh and everything was hot. I will definitely make this my new go to for Mexican in the area.

Hands down one of our favorite restaurants. We both tried a new entrée this time. They definitely dig disapont once again. The food was great, and the service is always an A+ and restaurant is always clean.

Nice place. Service was a little slow, probably because we were seated in the back of the patio. Vegetarian rellenos were delicious and the beef enchiladas were good.

Good food, clean. This chain has been around for a while. They don't have an extensive menu, their food tastes fresh and well flavored. The interior vibe is lively in a beautifully decorated setting. Great customer service

I will say the food is so delicious thankful for that, our waitress seemed exhausted had some compassion for her I totally understood well I’ve been there and done that however my daughter wasn’t feeling her best and some of the staff were making mean faces even the environment like she is a baby. How is she supposed to react? It’s hard enough knowing she’s not feeling well makes it harder is people making faces at a baby! It doesn’t cost anything to just be kind we live in a world that’s already filled with negativity the fact this place has great reviews but the staff lacked compassion. Making mean faces at a child says a lot about a person’s character

I went here yesterday with my boyfriend’s mother to go dress shopping for a wedding we’re going to, and it was awesome. I had never been here before but the service was absolutely excellent. We started off with one server and they did a shift change shortly after we arrived, and the new server came and introduced himself immediately and appeared to be super knowledgeable about the food and even helped my boyfriend’s mom out by making a suggestion for her order to make it cheaper and still get everything she wanted! The beverages were absolutely awesome, the server kept out drinks filled the whole time, and I had zero complaints about taste. I would absolutely come eat here again.

This is by far the best Mexican restaurant we have found in Texas! We had the Grande Burrito, chicken. Excellent flavor, presentation, and service. Chips, guacamole, and salsas were also very good. Enough food for me and my wife took home half of hers. Well done!

Delicious food served in generous portions and great mixed drinks. The chips are good and served with 3 salsas: regular red (my favorite), spicy red and a green pineapple salsa. Try the Pappas (Mexican mashed potatoes.) They also very vegetarian options. Perfect sweet tea. Lovely atmosphere with fountains and interesting murals. Very friendly staff. One of my favorite spots.

Reply: First off the service was FANTASTIC! Our server got triple sat and one of the tables was an 8 top. He did great! My wife and I ordered a single order of steak fajitas and a cup of tortilla soup at about 9:20. We received our food at about 9:50. The wait seemed quite long for an order like that and with how many customers were there. The flour tortillas we had were pretty sub par as well. They almost seemed like they were reheated in the microwave because they were rubbery and chewy. My wife's soup also had almost no broth. Thank you for replying and acknowledging this.

I met a friend there at noon for lunch, it has become our favorite meet and eat place. I had the grilled chicken salad and it was great, definitely recommend it. The chips and salsas looked good, and always are, but they're not Keto friendly at all so I skipped them. Service was also very good. We're looking forward to our next meeting there.

Great food, great waiter (Blake). When we walked in the young Asian girl, i assume was one of the hostesses, accidently dropped the menus and about 2 other young girls came over quickly to help her pick them up. I love that! Team work! I didn't give 5 stars because the hostess who attended us was rude. She asked if we wanted to sit in bar area. I said, no we prefer a booth. She said, "Well you're going to have to wait a long time to be served then". That was not necessary to say at all. I didn't catch her name. She was Caucasian though. We did NOT wait a long time to be served at all. Our waiter was very attentive and courteous too. Enchiladas were delicious.
