It
started
out
great,
and
turned
out
to
be
an
absolute
nightmare.
We
purchased
2
fireplaces,
and
had
them
installed
by
their
recommended
installer
to
get
the
warranty
coverage,
and
that
is
where
our
nightmare
began.
The
certified
installer
Tristan
didn't
get
a
permit
and
he
was
supposed
to,
turns
out
he
couldn't
get
a
permit
because
he
isn't
licensed
in
my
jurisdiction.
In
addition
to
not
getting
the
permit,
he
didn't
properly
install
the
fireplaces.
I
had
to
fight
with
him
to
get
him
back
to
raise
the
basement
unit
to
get
the
required
clearance
for
the
vent,
and
found
out
after
the
relationship
soured
that
he
also
didn't
use
the
required
pipe
protection,
and
and
he
used
CSST
and
didn't
bond
the
system.
While
CSST
is
allowed
by
code,
it
needs
to
be
properly
installed
which
means
bonding
to
the
electrical
ground,
without
bonding
it
is
extremely
dangerous
and
can
leak
and
explode
with
lighting
strikes.
Even
when
bonded
CSST
is
more
prone
to
leaks
and
overall
is
more
dangerous.
However,
it
wasn't
just
the
CSST
was
incorrectly
installed,
the
gas
line
was
undersized.
Our
2
fireplaces
combined
need
62,500
BTUs,
however
according
to
the
table,
our
pipe
could
only
accommodate
61,000
BTUs.
Additionally
he
didn't
sleeve
the
CSST
as
went
through
sheet
metal
into
the
fireplace
again
making
it
very
dangerous
on
a
dangerous
pipe.
Sure
the
fireplaces
turn
on
and
have
pretty
flames,
however,
they
weren't
installed
properly
and
he
willingly
and
knowingly
installed
it
without
a
license
and
permit
in
PPRBD
jurisdiction.
However
he
alleges
to
be
licensed
by
Douglas
county
which
means
he
should
know
that
you
always
need
a
permit
when
installing
fireplaces.
He
shouldn't
have
taken
the
job
knowing
that
he
was
unlicensed
in
El
Paso
county.
Corners
were
cut
and
the
fireplaces
were
unsafe.
We
ultimately
had
to
tear
out
all
of
the
gas
work
that
he
did
and
get
it
redone
and
we
had
to
make
modifications
to
the
install
to
make
the
units
safe.
This
saga
has
been
going
on
for
over
a
year,
and
we
have
had
open
walls
where
the
fireplaces
are
because
of
the
nightmare
caused
by
Spa
Broker
certified
installer
Tristan.
While
my
install
contract
was
not
with
Spa
Brokers,
and
it
was
with
Tristan,
I
had
to
use
him
in
order
to
get
maximum
warranty
coverage.
Very
disappointed
that
Spa
Brokers
contractor
willfully
installed
a
fireplace
without
a
permit.
Hopefully
he
is
no
longer
their
installer,
but
after
seeing
how
much
potential
danger
my
family
was
in
because
of
improperly
installed
fireplaces
by
their
recommended
installer.
Perhaps
they
should
just
require
that
the
units
be
properly
installed
per
the
instructions
instead
of
having
to
go
through
their
installer.
The
bottom
line
is
had
lightning
struck
within
100
feet
of
my
home,
it
could
have
blown
up
because
it
was
improperly
installed.
Someone
who
blatantly
and
recklessly
disregards
building
codes
is
not
some
you
want
as
your
recommended
installer.
I've
still
been
fighting
to
get
the
money
back
that
I
paid
for
install
to
no
avail.
I
am
aware
that
Spa
Broker
legally
doesn't
have
to
refund
the
money
for
an
improper
install
because
it
wasn't
Spa
Broker
who
I
contracted
with
for
install,
it
was
their
recommended
contractor.
However
given
how
much
of
a
nightmare
this
situation
has
been
I
have
decided
to
share
what
really
happened.
Maybe
this
will
help
spur
someone
at
Spa
Brokers
to
flex
some
muscle
and
see
if
Tristan
will
refund
my
install.
