👍👍 I have been at this facility for a month now. They are taking such a good care of me here. There is nothing I can say bad about this facility. I traveled here from NJ because the hospital just couldn’t get the job done. The facility is clean, rooms cleaned daily. You yourself are kept clean and... One of the worst hospitals I’ve ever been too, waited 15hours in the ER waiting room after being forgotten I was still there, waited two days before I was even hooked up to anything such as fluids/meds, anything. Also like to mention how this was also a planned ER visit so I should have been semi taken care of or things partially setup since this was a “severe case”. Didn’t see any doctors/specialist that I was promised. Drove 2.5 hours to reach the best. Turns out to be one of the worst especially when coming out if surgery I need to remind my nurses of what I can and can’t do like sit up or get out of bed to go to the bathroom. Suppose to be one of the best hospitals? I don’t see it one bit. Also like to mentions hallways are small and crowded with junk defiantly don’t want to be stuck here if an emergency where to happen on the floor. Wouldn’t make it. Also my stuff, while in surgery was rummaged through, confiscated, & took out of bags and they lost my clothes I took off from surgery. Didn’t even make my bed or anything to make it look less obvious. Bring a lock.

Would love to give zero stars. This place is the worst run ER in the city of Philadelphia. We have been waiting in the same seats for nine hours. My mother has lung cancer and pneumonia. When you go to the desk to ask when we can get to review the antibiotics she needs you get treated like a piece of gum under their shoe. No compassion at all. They are the rudest people that I have ever had to deal with. The CEO of this hospital should be proud of himself for not having any idea of what is going on under his nose..

Do NOT use UPENN under ANY circumstances! I currently have a complicated, yet potentially life threatening condition that they have not taken seriously. I’ve had several appointments with Kelsey Johnson, the Geneticist, arbitrarily cancelled at literally the last minute! The Neurologist told my wife and I that they were going to “get to the bottom of it”. A couple tests later I received a cold, unempathic message stating she was simply “stumped” and refused to do any more. There was further testing required, but the neurologist refused. She didn’t even provide a referral to see anyone else. She essentially said,” I give up and don’t care about your follow up care”. The physicians will flat out lie to you, in my case telling you they are contacting someone to expedite things, to no avail. My four day stay at UHOP on Spruce St was a disaster. The entire staff was condescending and unfortunately I left in as much pain and confusion as when I entered. They were so quick to discharge me they sent a staff member pretending to be from the so called “Quota Dept” just 15 minutes after discharge. Administration and the so called patient representatives will pretend they are advocating for you but behind closed doors will go with the status quo. Unfortunately I’ve been through hell with UPenn the last six months and would not recommend them to my worst enemy. I am actively seeking healthcare elsewhere but have been limited due to health insurance limitations.

The scheduling system is a bureaucratic nightmare. I was interested in a particular doc who's both family and sports medicine. I work out a lot and get occasional injuries and figured it would be nice to have someone who knew me for both. The scheduler said (a) family medicine and sports appointments would have to be booked separately and (b) only one body part per visit, although each body part would take about 5 minutes. It took 3 separate calls, each with a long wait, to learn this. I found a PCP elsewhere and will use Rothman for sports medicine. Then I tried to get an appointment for a gynecology problem. I chose a doctor listed as taking new patients and applied online. When I called back, they said my request was filed by the name of the doctor I requested. I then waited online almost 30 min to be transferred to gynecology. The gynecology scheduler (after another 20 minute wait) said the doctor I chose wasn't taking new patients for the rest of the year. She asked me who else I might want to see. I asked her who was available within the next 3 months. She offered the names of one doctor with a lot of negative reviews and a nurse practitioner who seems to specialize in prenatal care. I later met someone who'd been to that doctor; she said he was mediocre at best. My issue was not related to obstetrics. I had no guidance in choosing any doctors. This was an enormous waste of time. If doctors aren't taking new patients for six months, they should not be listed as taking new patients. I wanted an experienced doctor and did not want a CNP. The scheduler said to try Dickens which seems to be mostly obstetrics. I gave up and went somewhere else. The "new patient" appointment is a racket anyway. The scheduler said, "They know you if you've been there." That's a blatant lie. You fill out your history and forms online. Doctors don't do anything different for new patients, especially if you're there for a problem and not a checkup. They don't remember most of their "old" patients and hopefully they won't trust their memory anyway. They just read the chart. I've been to a good Penn specialist a few years ago. I was referred by the doctor's friend who let me bypass the system and call the specialist's office directly. I get the feeling that's the only way to get in to see an experienced, competent specialist. An encounter with schedulers makes us understand why the movement for legal assisted dying is gaining momentum. If you're symptom -free and just want to schedule a "preventive" test at your leisure, you're fine. If you've got a problem, you're on your own. What's the use of a top quality hospital if you only get access to the least qualified, lowest-rated professionals? And you wait three months to see them.

the hospital is so unprofessional and unorganized, instead of me having 1 constant doctor or nurse they switch nurses and doctors every visit i go to and not only are they switching the doctors and nurses they are giving me false information and nothing is consistent they never on the same page as far as my pregnancy goes and they come in and out with different information. i never had an ultrasound done and i’m 5 months pregnant, The doctor and pharmacist confirmed that i was able to take ibuprofen during my pregnancy to just find out that i was never suppose to take that medication while pregnant and that it can harm my baby. they never give you a call back they call back 1-2 days later if i’am calling about a concern why should it take days for you to return someone’s call . i decided to switch from this hospital and go back to my original hospital which was einstein. i only switched to this hospital because i moved in this area and live 2 blocks away from this hospital but if i have to travel far to go to a hospital that takes pride in doing there job and makes you feel comfortable and always there to answer any questions and concerns that you may have . they are always there when you need them and they don’t take 1-2 days to give you a call back they answer immediately and answer any questions you may have .

I went there for a job interview. This place was built massively. The buildings are state of art. The layout of signs to help patient navigation was very good. Staff are super nice at the reception. Of course my purpose of the visit is different from other people but I felt hope attending the place and the people I met seems very caring. They have a cyclotron for proton beam therapy for cancer which is one of the only few systems attached to the hospital. The physician team works very closely with the departments of science to innovate things.

The Hospital itself looks pretty nice and well kept, but some of their staff makes the whole experience a headache for the patients that come through. So after delivering our baby there about a month ago... we are only finding out this morning that Sabrina Bryant (from the financial department) did not submit our baby's application in after we presented everything they asked for and even went downstairs personally to speak to her and sign the documents. I'm actually on my way there as I'm typing this review because I'm going to submit a complaint against her for the neglect and lack of care shown to us. Every other application for our baby was submitted and we've gotten some updates already except from hers.

I need this hospital to do better in the (ER) there should be no reason to why I am still waiting in the ER AND HAVE WITNESS PATIENTS ASLEEP BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF MORE ROOMS TO HELP PEOPLE.I MEAN THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THE BEST HOSPITALS IN PHILADELPHIA PA. Which is sad because I have seen people leaving because of waiting forever! I have seen patients being bullied by the guards for sitting down on the floor because she kept throwing up. Employees lolly gagging and laughing Plu, joking around.Which is to me VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.i mean I'm in pain and I have to see ya'll having fun and chilling at work AROUND A BUNCH OF SICK PEOPLE. I have been to Temple and other hospitals and they haven't made me wait from 3:00 am to now 5:16 am AND AM STILL WAITING

This is one of the best hospital in PA. My dad’s life was saved here. Everyone from this institution from doctors to parking garage personnel are respectful, helpful, and kind. We had the best experience here every time I bring my dad in for any service. Five stars is not enough to rate how great this place is. Big “THANK YOU” to all healthcare staffs for everything that you do!!

Usually Penn Medicine is on top of their game, but since the whole COVID, they have been lacking real customer service. I gave birth to all 3 of my children here who were healthy. They were Professional and everyone was great. But when I found out I was pregnant this year I found out very late called the Dickens Center for an appointment and they had my first appointment not until I was 5 months pregnant. So that was already too long considering my health condition. Started going to regular prenatal care and still never got an Ultrasound. I'm thinking everything was okay. Soon I got to my first prenatal appointment here I was excited to see what was really going on. Only to find out at 5 months pregnant that my baby had no heartbeat 😔 I was devastated and I felt like if I was having the proper care from the beginning my baby would have had a chance to survive. After having a fetal demise baby I was lost for words and I still haven't felt the same since. There is no way they couldn't have fit me in their schedule, if I walked in the emergency room they would have squeezed me in the schedule to be seen sooner. I don't understand the whole system they have going on. I'm giving them 2 stars, because they are usually good but for some reason they have been lacking a whole lot. They make me think twice about doing prenatal care here in the future.

The surgeon who worked on my mom was great, although when I noticed a huge hideous bedsore on my mom's back, and tried to take a picture of it when the nurse was changing the bandage, as I had been doing all along whenever they changed her incision dressing, the response was shocking beyond imaginable. The nurse freaked out, security escorted me out, a group of thugs intimated and ordered me off the property, threatening that if I come back, or even call to check on my mom's condition they will have me arrested. Even when I reported this to Philly Elder Care they called me right back saying the hospital is denying that your mom is in there, and I discovered they had actually removed her from thier system so that when you called, the switchboard would say, I cannot put you through, that person is not in this hospital. I would not believe it either, if it didn't happen to me and my mom. Ultimately, my mom had walked into another Penn Medicine facility 3-months prior with nothing anywhere near life threatening, was transfered to Upenn Philly after a surgeon there botched a minor surgery twice, my mom aquired 2 life threatening conditions from the hospitals, infection, and stage 4 bedsore, and sadly, my mom, the sweetest, most kind and gentle, loving and caring, adorable, beautiful, greatest mom who God ever made, passed away, in agony, in a horrible, excruciatingly painful way, and I just can't imagine how I am ever going to go on either.

This hospital is amazing, definitely miracle workers and Gods hands. My wife went in here with a 30% then a week later 0% chance of surviving 90 days. She went downhill fast, all organs failing, to getting bacteria in her blood to a medical induced coma. The doctors were able to get her stable enough to perform surgery even though it was risky. It was either a risk or she do not make it back home. She was listed twice for a transplant but due to other complications surgery could not be done. Finally she was stable enough in a 48hr window and they pulled the trigger. Her surgery was a success, followed by a long road of recovery and rehab. She is finally home after being in the hospital 3 months. She's not fully recovered as dialysis is required but a breeze compared to being on a death bed. The staff always treated me with respect and were always accommodating. COVID made visiting difficult but it was not really an issue. If it wasn't for the surgeons who told me "we do this every day" "this is routine for us" she would not be here today. I am grateful for their dedication and hard work.

This Hospital represents great care, no arguments on the care she receives. Let's talk about time management!! The worst ever, inconsiderate policy and process to admissions. Sent from oncology for routine scheduled treatment to admissions on not one but every visit so far where my 77 year old mother sits and waits for a room for over 5 hours?? Really, this is horrible hospital management and inconsiderate of patient time along with care takers. I can not believe that this is acceptable, only in this business would this be tolerated and this business survive. There is similar delays to discharging as well, they can not coordinate a pick up closer than a 30 minute wait for me, even if i tell them I'm there when I'm 20 minutes away. You can say it's the price to pay for quality care, i say it's overpayment when this hospital collected 185k for a 3 day stay including a brain biopsy. The price was already paid and this billing is continued in this fashion. My opinion, this is a classic "cut corners" for profit business with a monopoly and cornered market on care. Maybe the oncology department is not doing their job and booking an appointment, however when i expressed my concern, their reply was that they had no control, another answer not acceptable.

My daughter was delivered here on 1/24/19. One of the happiest moments in me and my fiancee life. The staff was great and the hospital took really good care of my family. My daughter has now grew up into a lil lady like her Mommy. I'm forever grateful for the professionalism and kindness we were shown. Thank you.🙏🏿

I have had 5 surgeries here and they were top notch.. im currently in the Er with Asthma I have been sitting for hours weezing and I asked them how long will it be before I can be seen. I could have stayed home and suffered this is absolutely ridiculous. This is supposed to be one of the best Hospitals in America but yet they lack in the Er department heavy im so.short of breath. I had blood drawn and a chest x-ray and was told to go.back out to the waiting room after they said I would be in next when a bed opens up. How do u operate knowing people are having breathing problems but have to sit for hours before they get treated. The worst part i just signed myself out bc people came in well after.me and got seen and sent home but yet im struggling to breathe n I ha e to sit for hours on end this is ludacris

Got a weird vibe that I was being watched in my ER room. I would check room 8 in the ER for hidden cameras specifically in the overhead lights and other areas of the room. Could be just paranoid but When I shined my flash into the overhead light an infrared beam was shining back indicating a possible device. Again I could be wrong but I just didn’t feel right. Other than feeling like I was being watched visit was fine no complaints about my care team

This hospital is probably one of the worst I have ever experienced. My friend went in for a heart procedure that was low risk and the doctors somehow still managed to puncture her heart. Had 4 hours to fix the enternal bleeding didn’t happen. The world has just lost the most amazing beautiful caring funny person ever. Not to mention when I walked in I saw a roach and all the toilets were clogged and there was a nasty smell inside and was so unprofessional, the employees were rude to. I would never recommend to anyone and give the best of luck to the patients there now.

At the emergency department, I was a little skeptical about this hospital. I drove from Reading in search of a competent doctor that have faith in miracles to save my dad — the hopes are reading are nonexistent. The first bump we encounter was the wait-time to get seen and admitted into a hospital. My dad seems like an stable patient for most people, but in reality he is having a lot of pain, and his time is getting shorter and shorter. While waiting, I had to help my father to get up the chair, so he can manage the pain he was feeling in his stomach. I hold him as he cried out his pain. This was a very hard thing to see without snapping for help. However, we managed to be patient and trust in the staff that was present. Once my father was moved to an available ED's room, we encounter our second bump: the hospital's visitors policy. I had to leave my father and mother alone (two non-english speakers) and stay in a phone call to make sure their voice was correctly passed on to the medical professionals. As I slept in the parking lot, I trusted this hospital. The first doctor that gave an update on my father case said that she wasn't a surgeon or oncologist, but so far they do not think that he is a good candidate for surgery, and that there is no any options that seems promising. Our heart got heavier, however, we are still a believer and we still think that there is a way to increase my father lifetime. During this sad time, our biggest supporter was Miss. Maria the nurse that was in charge of us. Everytime she entered the room, she made things brighter. She took care us and provided an excellent support. She tried to make us feel more comfortable and happy. We may not have a response to all of her comments, but the reality is that we love her and the way she treat us. Amazing human being and big shout-out to her. THANK YOU MARIA, you were our angel that night! Tomorrow, we will listen to the surgeon. Is 1:18 AM and I am just thinking what if there is a small light. What if my father could enjoy a few more years with us. What if these surgeons give us good news Tomorrow. So far, I am thankful with the hospital as they keep trying and are not sending my father home to die, as other hospital already did. I don't have the ending of my story, but my mother, my siblings, and myself still believe... thank you Penn Medicine.

BEWARE...Dr. Casey JO Humbyrd (NO STAR, actually) didn't counter my foot pain for well OVER 6 mos. (and NEVER did; I switched to Rothman, thankfully!) IMO she doesn't adhere to the Hippocratic Oath - which is in part, do no harm. HUP & Penn are still A+ though (Hey, I'm a Quaker). Yet, I suppose there are BAD APPLES in every barrel... My poor treatment came when I asked to transfer doctors w/i the Ortho dept. due to Dr. sharing that she'd only done a Tarsal operation 3x- THREE TIMES! (Sorry, no one w. only 3x experience do I want operating on me. You?) As a Penn Alum C'93, who worked at HUP from age 14 to 16 for Dr. J.F. Strauss, experiencing good care from every physician there over the 35 years since, I thought I could rely upon HUP's Orthopedic division, since HUP is a venerable institution. I was DREADFULLY wrong! Not only did Dr. Casey JO Humbyrd FAIL to heal me. As shared above, I've opted to leave the department entirely, still untreated bc I can't trust her. She knew my ailment (Sinus Tarsi). She knew the relief administered previously (and ultrasound guided needle w/a solution), YET prolonged my pain and NEVER got around to ordering the shot after I'd switched over to her. IMO...I would NOT rely upon her to help cure your ortho needs. Humbyrd = Terrible bedside care. Humbyrd = Didn't follow through w. care tactics as we had agreed. Dr. Casey JO Humbyrd = UNRELIABLE!

So I was charged for a room and MRI, the funny part is, I was the only person who was kept in a hallway for 5 hours while waiting for an MRI. I was CHARGED. I’ve tried disputing and, in order to dispute, you better have your bank statements, W2s, pay stubs, records of bills, etc. I just didn’t think the charge was fair, but oh well. I believe this hospital has gone downhill since COVID.

How do I start. First. Let me say their parking charges are ridiculous and honestly a money grab. Said 3 hours for 10 dollars and 3 hours for 7 dollars at 2 of their garages. Literally was there parked for 30 minutes in each and still had to pay the 7 and 10 dollars. When on street parking cost 50 cents for 30 mins. Mind you there is no on street parking close to any of their entrances. Second how can you have a mother come in for appointments and not allow their child in. That's is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard of. If the mother was in serious injury or illness then they need to find child care before actually going to the hospital. Third not one of the greeters or service people know where any thing is. I asked multiple people where the elevator was to be given the wrong directions multiple times. I would not recommend anyone go here if time is a issue. No Sence of urgency or care.the greeters were rude and careless.

My wife was seen in the emergency room on Sunday , September 17th at approximately 10AM for severe lower back and lower extremities pain . The emergency room was uncharacteristically not as crowded as usual when we arrived. My wife was immediately processed and seen by a triage nurse. After waiting for approximately 10 -15 minutes , my wife's name was called by one of the nurses to be seen in the back. This was however overruled by the 9triage nurse supervisor, Rachel , who proceeded to take another patient back in my wifes place. No explanation was given on why she was passed by . After at least 5 or patents were called ahead of her and no explanation again given while my wife was being passed up , we approached Rachel about an explanation of the near 1 hour wait time and many of the payments had come into the Hospital ER after my wife . She explained that some patients were prioritized ahead of others based on their condition . Meanwhile , my wife is withering in Pain while other patients were called ahead of her who arrived way after she did and didn't appear to be stroke or trauma patients as Rachel referenced as being a priority. After expressing my frustration to Rachel and another front desk representative , we were escorted to the back by another nurse with no apology or explanation given as it pertained to their unprofessional and very poor customer service and people skills .

For doctors to describe your patients as mf’ers and to say they manipulate the system is disgusting. That’s how I sat there and listened to a dr and a nurse talk about patients, describing very similarly my symptoms. I have never felt so embarrassed and ashamed of my symptoms of which scared me enough to leave my house in the middle of the night because I thought I was dying. I’ll never be back here and I will be sure to spread the word.

When I first heard about this Hospital, I could just feel the friendliness as my parents and I walked through the front door for the first time back in the year 2012 where my dad had major surgery done. Let me tell you, the care that he received was awesome! Not only that they cared for him, they cared for us as well Carrie Ann the nurses, specialist, surgeons, and doctors we're so down to earth and yes, we felt right at home. We were even offered free meals because they knew our situation. If anybody is looking for a hospital that makes you feel right at home, University of Pennsylvania Hospital is the number one hospital that will definitely save your life and and also to continue living a wonderful life as well.

This is the absolute worst hospital to go to in case of an emergency. You will not be seen for 8+ hours due to lack of efficiency. The staff are rude. There is no empathy for patients waiting. Instead of suggesting to go to a different hospital for emergencies they just make you wait. And if you leave without being seen you’ll get charged for triage. Do not come here for actual emergencies. And do not expect “Mark” at the Er front desk from the late shift to do anything to help. Again, no empathy, no resolution, all attitude and pointing fingers at others instead of resolving peoples issues

There are some of the most caring and helpful nurses and doctors in the profession are located in this hospital! Seems like the pandemic has made things in the emergency room a lot smoother. People are seen faster and taken care in a more orderly fashion. At least that's what I noticed from my last visit. They were following the safety guidelines and taking all measures required to need everyone protected.

Went into the er early this afternoon. It is now 8pm and I'm still sitting in a waiting room feeling like I'm in labor but not pregnant. The staff has been nothing but rude and full of attitudes. Alls I got was an iv put in. They messed up the first IV and my vein is blown, so they had to stick me again. No apologies, nothing just sent me back into the waiting room. No one can update you on anything. People that arrived wayyy after me were brought back I seen the waiting room almost go empty twice and nothing for me. I left and will be going to a different hospital that will actually treat me.

Everyone we came into contact during my mothers surgery and recovery in the hospital were fantastic. Response time, care and customer service were all 5 stars. The nurses went above and beyond helping my mother every step of the way from admission to discharge. big shout out to the nurses Christina and Jenna in the recovery area. All nurses should strive to provide the level of care that they provide. They got into nursing for all the right reasons and you can see that their hearts are in the right place. Thank You again to everyone at HUP!

Just don't go. Especially if you are black. The nurse that gave me an IV kept pulling on the site and I had to ask why are u pulling it in my skin. She just looked at me and said I have to get your blood. But I was like you don't pull on it. I've had many IVs and they don't do that. She literally was causing unnecessary pain and acted like it was normal. I was there from 11am-2am. No room. Cramped on top of each other. Not clean. Poorly ran.

I have to share this with hope that I can get answers to this disheartening experience. My husband needs a special MRI due to a certain St Jude pacemaker he has. Penn has the special MRI but refused him because his urologist is not a PENN doctor. We have Medicare and pay a lot for a supplement!! This is how we get treated!! He is not asking for freebies!! So very disappointed with healthcare in our country and the people in charge.

Hopefully ED can do better because WOW. The amount of waiting you have to do just to get a doctor to look at your results of the scan and read them to you is CRAZYYY. I’ve been waiting for about 11 hours and still have not been called in the back by the nurses. I’ve asked them when they would be able to get to me multiple times and the response I get is “it’ll be another hour.” This hospital should not be considered “one of the best” in any way. They probably have the best doctors but doesn’t mean the hospital itself is good. They have poor customer care. Nurses get annoyed of the patients complaining but like I’m sure they would do the same if they were in that position and waiting for hours just to get an evaluation. I should’ve went with my gut and went to Jefferson instead, definitely won’t make that same mistake again.

Poor medical management for our family members admission. Nursing care is fair and inconsistent. Jessica RN is an exception and provided excellent care. Social worker and medical team lack compassion, listening skills, communication skills, professionalism, and empathy. Additionally, lack of understanding of family members religious beliefs. I felt intimidated and rushed by the social worker and medical team during important decision making processes for our family member.

If you intend on having treatment in this hospital, I HIGHLY suggest that you make arrangements to have a caregiver (family member or friend) stay bedside with you 24/7 throughout your stay at this facility. You should have someone with you to advocate for your health around the clock during your stay. The reason being is that the staff is so overwhelmed that they cannot possibly provide the care you will need because they are spread so thin. We were at this hospital for a planned surgery for two weeks from 10/18/23 - 11/1/23 for a giant brain aneurysm which I have no complaints about the main doctor who performed the surgery and his OR team but the care teams in the ICU and nursing staff seem to have a disconnect with communication from one department to the next. They ordered an MRI and the patient was left waiting for hours because someone marked the patient unable to receive MRI after surgery which was not the case at all. We also witnessed an argument between the ICU Nuero staff in the patients room when it came to proper action of treatment when seizures began to happen. Very frustrating and the patient was left with deficiencies due to a stroke that happen right after surgery. Also, if you are from out of the area, you will find it somewhat helpful at the Caregivers Center. Free coffee, water, massage chairs and fridge to utilize, but be aware, they have limited hours on the week days and closed during the weekends. If the patient does not have a loved one to care for them during their stay, they will no doubt suffer. The nurses are at a ratio of 5-6 patients per nurse which is not enough to provide adequate care for these patients. I was left doing most of the work for my loved one. Feedings, bathing/showering/ bathroom runs, pretty much everything but giving meds I was doing for my loved one while in this hospital. There were some staff that I would like to recognize - Emily (covering provider on the 10th floor city side), Caroline was the best nurse on the 10th floor City side and Camrie! You all were so great and wanted to thank you for your services! I empathize for the nurses who work so hard and try to do their very best. We need more people like you all in this field!

Really upset with the security personnel. I left the hospital around 10:30pm and asked security if there was anyone that could walk me to the parking lot due to I am handicapped and the security I spoke to was on his cell phone did not acknowledge that I was there and after 2 attempts told me to go on ahead. No one was able to make sure that I got to the parking lot safe and the ticket machines were not accepting cash, luckily I had a debit card.

I am so grateful to all the doctors, midwives, NPs, nurses, lactation consultants, and support staff at HUP. I always felt everyone was looking out for me and my baby's best interest. They went above and beyond for us. After my delivery, when my baby was sent back to HUP by my pediatrician for bloodwork, they sent down a nurse to retrieve the bloodwork from the car and ran the labs STAT while we waited. I could not imagine walking around in the hospital after having just given birth! I was so relieved when they said they would send someone down. Thank you HUP for all you do!

I was just here earlier today for a Kidney stone removal. words cannot describe how wonderful everyone was with me. I’m still very young and this was my first surgery i was getting and every nurse/doctor i came in contact with made me feel so safe and let me know very frequently that i was in good hands. I totally recommend this hospital.

Several family members received treatment over the years with excellent care. More recently a family member received gynecological care and the communication was horrendous. Waited a week for response on medication refills, still no response. This is the second time medication has run out due to dr’s office not responding. Several phone calls made to the dr office and message sent through patient portal. We could see the messages were read but still never responded. Very disappointed. Already scheduled appt with a different provider. UPDATE: Received a return call with a message to call to discuss; attempted to return call however no menu option to do so. Saga continues

I came to this hospital because it has such a good reputation and they really let me down. I went in the ER and then was inpatient for a week with classic gallbladder symptoms. They wouldn't diagnose me and dismissed me due to having ehlers danlos syndrome. They told me I could see another doctor out patient in four months. Even though they study it there which was surprising to me. I went to another hospital and they took my gallbladder out finally. It was diseased and there were "uncountable" stones. I am finally symptom free no thanks to Penn.

The worst possible place to go if you have an emergency. Blood pressure high, extreme headache, face showing clear signs of stroke. They took a cat scan and sent someone back into the waiting room indefinitely and is getting worse as the hours rise. 4 hours and no actual treatment was administered. This place is beyond disgusting and they don't care about anyone of color. You'd have a better survival rate at Mercy.

I arrived at the er around 5am yesterday morning. My complaint was excessive bleeding and extreme abdominal and pelvic pain following an extended menstrual cycle. I was called to triage in a fairly reasonable time frame. While in triage they did blood work and I gave a urine sample. I was then told to go back to the waiting area. I was not called into the back until almost 9am just to be seated in another waiting room. After about an hour I finally asked one of the physicians to remove my iv because I would be going to another hospital. The physician said go back in the waiting area and she'd be in in a few minutes. I tried to explain to her that my ride was outside and I could not wait any longer and if she gave me a band-aid I'd remove it myself. She proceeded to ignore me even after me saying excuse me several times. I did become very upset but rightfully so because after going to a different er and being taken back right away to see a doctor, I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and had to receive emergency surgery to have my right fallopian tube removed. This is just one of the reasons why university of pennsylvania has as many bad reviews to their site. It's extremely sad because it's very close to my home. Please do better because that was unacceptable how I was treated.

Penn is top notch facility with the ability to handle complex situations, but I clearly see the cracks in the care at the patient level. RNA and NPs don’t have specific and specialized knowledge to look after heart transplant patient. Unfortunately, doctors and surgeons are not paying attention or visiting patients regularly or catching the symptoms timely. When the system is gigantic these cracks are dangerous to the patient recovery. I have witnessed this personally and appalled the way the are handling. The three stars for the facility but zero stars for the care. But without care the facility is meaningless, sorry to say this!

I am a cancer patient who has been admitted to UPenn for the last two weeks. Reason for admission all my numbers were crashing, (platelets, hemoglobin, white cells, & nutrafills) I was getting platelet infusion almost every day, and I was unable to keep food down, loosing almost a pound a day! Untill a Dr. KEITH PRATZ took over my care. He had decided I was ok to be discharged, EVEN THOUGH they pulled me from my chemo regime, I was not maintaining my platelets without infusions, and I was unable to hold any food down! So my oncologist w MD Anderson called him and very respectfully said I was not ready. Dr. PRATZ to show his authority & because his pride was hurt, he pulled the one medication that was controlling my vomiting and left strict instructions to all covering docs, "under no circumstances give this patient "said" Medication!".(btw it was benadryl, that was the medication that was controlling my vomiting, that's right, benadryl, not a narcotic, non habit forming, no contraindications, Benadryl)This doctor went against the Hippocratic Oath and I do not recommend this hospital. ESPECIALLY if Dr. PRATZ is on your care, fire him off your care, read your patient right!! SHAME ON YOU UPENN!! If I die, you all know who to blame!! DR. PRATZ!!!

I was a patient of Dr. Chris Derk’s for 6 years. Well, 2 years ago I had breast cancer. After a double mastectomy and several months of treatment, I was cancer free. Because I had only been seeing breast cancer doctors for 8 months, I did not visit my other doctors i.e. PCP, rheumatologist, and etc. I finally met with him and was in excruciating pain, he had been prescribing me Tylenol 4 for several years. I have Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and fibromyalgia. This man refused to refill my Tylenol 4 that he prescribed me. I reached out to the head of rheumatology who never returned my call. Dr. Derk was literally treating me like a drug addict. All of my doctors are at Penn. He could see every single medicine that was prescribed to me, but he refused to refill the Tylenol. My husband sent him a long email reminding him of his oath of ethics. Low and behold, the very next morning my prescription was at the pharmacy. This fiasco went on for 2 weeks. During that time period, I could not live a normal life. I was literally bedridden. A month later, I received a certified mailed letter from Dr. Derk stating that he would no longer be my doctor, and I could no longer be a patient at HUP Rheumatology. I was flabbergasted. I immediately called the rheumatology department to make an appointment with another doctor, but they refused to do so. I was banned from Penn Rheumatology. After this man violated his oath of ethics as far as patient care, and I was the one being punished. 3 months later, I met with my PCP, and he was unaware that I was kicked out of the practice. He also said that he never heard of a doctor having this type of authority in a public hospital. This man was literally insinuating that I was a drug addict after he was the one who originally prescribed the medication. Derk is a Jerk! I will no longer give him a doctor salutation. His name is Chris.

. I won’t be answering that call. I had a terrible experience here. this entire hospital and staff is a joke. I sat in a room in alone in PEC laboring for 3 hours because there was no delivery room available. Then nurse Molly came into my room later in the evening to “apologize” and held my baby without my consent. I have nightmares about it every time I close my eyes. No one should be holding my baby who isn’t authorized and didn’t even ask. They wouldn’t give me an epidural when I asked for 3 hours and kept making excuses. I hardly made it to the delivery room in time for my baby and almost had her in the hallway. and for some reason there was about 10 nurses surrounding me and I’ve been having nightmares about it every time I shut my eyes. Im suing for medical malpractice and emotional distress. The only thing positive I’ll get is a settlement for my trauma. I would’ve rather had my baby in a garage. The only saving grace was a POC nurse who held my hand and showed me support. Wish I got her name.

I’m here now as we speak, everything from facility to staff to techs/nurses/doctors are EXCELLENT Don’t listen to the bad reviews The ER process was fast, the younger generation of doctors here actually listen to the patients and want to heal and give care. I’ve been to the other big Univ. hospitals and UPENN literally is THE BEST.

Had a terrible experience when I came in for a procedure with anesthesia. The CRNA Meghan Shannon was very unprofessional and did not act like she was doing. She was on her phone texting the whole time and never even introduced that she was a nurse and not an anesthesiologist. I never even got to speak to the anesthesiologist. If I ever return I will be requesting someone else.

Came to the ED with my daughter for headache and neck pain. Been here 4 1/2 hours. Most people have been here longer. If you can’t handle the amount of people why not suggest we go elsewhere. Clearly you do not have the staff at this enormous facility to care for your patients. It is totally unacceptable to have people waiting so long. Asked the front desk nurse how long it would be and was told “ they will call you when they are ready”. That isn’t what I asked. One star for wait time and non answer from your nurse!!

My father was recently at HUP for an extended stay due to numerous medical issues. During his stay, I thought the doctors did a good job diagnosing and treating him. however, the entire discharge process has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. The whole story could be a novel and is too long to type here, but the main points are: My parents live 3 hours away and purposely stayed an extra night in the hospital so they could be discharged in the morning. The next morning they were told they could be discharged at noon (later than they would have liked) but in reality did not get to leave the hospital until nearly 3PM. The whole process was truly a fiasco from a wheelchair for my father not arriving for nearly 40 minutes to security forcing my mother to valet her car while she waited for my father to be brought down, only to then have my very ill father stuck sitting on the curb because they took my mother's car. Additionally, on our way out of the hospital, we were stopped in the hallway by a doctor who said they needed us to wait because they were still figuring out the dosage for one of my father's medications. That seemed absolutely absurd to me, as he had been in the hospital for weeks and was supposed to be discharged the previous day. Further, my father needs essential follow up medical care this week, but the doctor that he was set up with for outpatient care still has not received his records, even though we were assured that they would be sent over on Monday. I am extremely displeased by the way everything has played out since the discharge process began, and I will be researching further means of recourse besides writing this review, but at least now others will be warned.

As a former employee and registered nurse I feel compelled to write about my experience. I dedicated over 10 years working for this institution. I took care of many patients that needed emergency services, as well as many that were at the end of their life. One day, I took care of a patient that was a (Caucasian) basketball player. His family was by his side throughout his stay. Throughout the shift the patients father became increasingly upset due to surgical delays, and since he couldn’t have his way, he proceeded to make a racist comment and requested to have myself and another staff member (minority nurses) removed from the assignment. The hospital administrators allowed it by having a replacement Caucasian nurse take over the assignment. After making a report of this incident to upper level management, the EEOC and HR, administrative staff simply justified the incident. By even making a comment like “this can happen anywhere at any time.” I met with lead administrator Paul Harrington he justified the incident by saying, in the past he has had to deal with lots of racial incidents. The point here is that after my reports were made administrators, including HR started a hostile campaign of retaliation against me for more than a year. My work was closely monitored, I was written up, I was excluded from being offered overtime etc. Prior to this incident, I have NEVER had an infraction or discipline on my employee record. My manager was even involving staff to help retaliate against me. A patients life was even put at risk when a nurse attempted sabotaged my work by providing me with the wrong IV tubing. After several reports where made even to the CEO of the hospital (REGINA CUNNINGHAM), no one cared and I was eventually removed from my position.

Or maybe you can explain why your attending neurologist said that my face “looked flat.” I wonder where he got that idea. How many geniuses does it take to figure out the difference between right and left? These people are criminally insane and have no respect for their patients. Talk about ripping out Ivies...

I gave birth to my first child here and the experience was horrible. Let me start by saying, the staff, not all, but most lack in bedside manners, effective communication and common courtesy. I gave two stars due to two of my nurses being phenomenal and going above and beyond to make sure I, along with my baby were comfortable. When I went to the hospital, the intake nurse checked my cervix and broke my water while doing so which was very painful. She did not warn me that it was a possibility that could happen and proceeded to roughly handle me during that time. The nurse and the doctor mistakenly found that I was 8cm dilated even though eventually three hours later after I received pain medicine, another doctor said I was only 5.5cm. When the doctors thought I was 8cm, they were going to do an emergency c-section because the baby was not far enough down in my cervix for vaginal birth. Once the mistake was realized, the doctors began to give me a drug to help make my contractions stronger and push my baby further down the cervix. That medicine kept making his heart rate rise whenever they’d up the dosage. I asked more than once if they could keep it at a lower dosage. Ultimately, I gained a fever and my baby heart rate was too high for a vaginal birth after dilating to 9cm and being probed and prodded for over 12 hours. I was never informed of what happens during the c-section. It was the worse. I was strapped to the table. Arms and legs. My medicine started to wear off and I could feel my legs. The anesthesiologist gave pain medicine without telling me what it was. My baby had to get an IV and they stuck him multiple times trying to find a vein. The nurses did not communicate with me about keeping him during his circumcision. Overall, I would never recommend to anyone to have their baby born here!!!

Excellent doctors, nurses & nurse’s assistants - no complaints there, but the hospital itself is filthy. The room hasn’t been cleaned, there is trash on the floor & the bathroom is...ew! We asked for maintenance to be called because the sink is full of stinky water & the drain in shower is full of someone else’s hair. The cleaning person came & mopped about 2 feet of the entrance to the room, answered her cell phone & hasn’t been back since...that was 3 hrs ago.

Funny how i go into Pennsylvania Hospital for surgery. Lady asks me what i brought with me and i state phone, charger, pajamas, wallet, and a blanket. Lady said did you have cash because if you do we will have to lock it up and i said no. Now because of covid there are NO visitors allowed in the hospital. I have my surgery and come home and my Louis Vuitton wallet is missing out of my bag. Only staff handled my bag. They do an investigation and said there isn’t a list in my chart with my belongings but I signed a consent saying I had no valuables. No, i said i had no cash on me. So the staff steals my $750 wallet and they tell me I’m SOL. I’m beyond LIVID. So much for being one of the best healthcare systems

If I could give a zero stars I would the treatment here has been terrible Every time I come here. They have zero bedside manner and compassion. While I know most people won't check I don't appreciate being given a broken link. My baby died ( a missed miscarriage) and your people tried to discharge me without telling me a few months back and I recently had to go back for something wrong with my stomach and the first hour after I was sent to fast track was fine until they sent me back into the waiting room with my IV hooked up in my arm and this wasn't the first time this happened. I understand I don't have insurance so I don't matter. It doesn't matter to any of you that my baby is dead or when I am sick. I understand there is a lot going on recently as well. But all of this matters to me and the people I love. How do you think they would feel if something went wrong at your hospital. What if someone you loved went through this. Would it be ok in your eyes. The whole medical profession is turning out to be a joke.

What can I possibly say about HUP (hospital at university Pennsylvania) that is strong enough to stress my deepest appreciation to this superior quality hospital. Ten years ago I came here for a triple bypass and they were totally professional and I was completely at ease because of the physician’s reputation along with the hospital rated so high. I was completely satisfied. Now ten years later I am in this hospital with another heart surgery replacement of my aortic valve and feel even more at ease because of the advancement of medication and medical treatment. This place oozes with courtesy and respect for each patient on each floor. Even the food service is top notch all the way. I see others do NOT share my opinions but no one not anything in this world is going to be perfect with every person. I am thankful to be able to come here for major surgeries and procedures. UPDATE: After writing my review I was in a quandary about HUP only having a 3.5 rating. I want everyone who reads my review and the others here think and decide using common scents and research as to use HUP! But consider one fact not indicated here and that is : 315 reviews here and HUP MUST TREAT THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS EVERY YEAR. THE RATIOS DO NOT TELL THE COMPLETE STORY. THINK, RESEARCH AND MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION.

The hospital is... well, a hospital. I suppose the big deal is the name. The location is congested, so come prepared to hurry up and wait- though that describes several Philadelphia areas. Word of advice: do not utilize valet service unless you have to; I never saw the wait time less than 20 minutes unless it was overnight. Go to 3600 Civic Center Blvd. or the Perlman Parking Garages that are nearby. Perlman connects to the hospital while 3600 is a bit of a walk unless you take the shuttle. The nursing staff and doctors are great. Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, caring, and professional. I would actually wager there is a high nurse to patient ratio just based on observation. There are several attending doctors from other hospitals, so you're generally in good and knowledgable hands. Another word of advice, this one to those who plan on having a child here: don't. Labor and Receiving is very ample with the room situation. Each room is incredibly spacious with it's own thermostat, chairs/cots for guests, and amenities. I swear our one nurse was camping outside our room because she was there mere seconds after calling for her. But... it goes downhill once you leave there. Fast. Post Pardum is literally the opposite. Cramped, hot, and severely lacking. A room meant for one is split for two patients by a curtain, and you better pray you have the side closest to the window unless you want to be woken up and have mom's bed bumped into. Oh, and hopefully you get along with your neighbor, don't mind sharing a bathroom, don't care about your newborn crying through the night, or cramping all your visitors together like sardines in a room that has hardly working air conditioning! Oh. And hopefully your arm's reach neighbor doesn't mind all that from your side either. And vice-versa. A good night in one of those rooms seems to require a lot, huh? I don't know what their management was thinking when planning this aside from the almighty dollar, but it certainly wasn't the interests of the patients who chose to go to UPenn. Another word of advice: If you do happen to get stuck in a 2-in-1 room: complain. Be annoying about requesting a single room, I dare say short of causing a scene. The waitlist for one means nothing and you can jump ahead if you're vocal. Seriously, do yourself a favor and go to literally any other hospital for labor. There are other facilities that accommodate their patients and plan for excess/overflow deliveries; UPenn is, apparently, not one of them. Aside from that, discharge was great. The gentleman who wheeled us out was friendly, the pharmacist not so much- but her frustration lead us to getting our medicine for free- and the valet attendants do all they can to keep the front entrance clear for those picking up. Unfortunately for UPenn, we will not be going back for any of their services and it's because of this experience in Post Pardum along with the distance and traffic in University City. Obligatory "rating 2 stars only because..." the nursing staff there is great and two of them really stood out.

DO NOT use this hospital for labor and delivery of your child. Nurses/doctors are descent, but the facilities are sub par. We were crowded into a double room with another family after the birth. My wife contracted ring worm at the hospital. Rooms do not have individual thermostats. Oh, and when we received the social security card for my newborn daughter her name was spelled incorrectly. We called the hospital. They admitted to making the error (and it was a simple name). I have a copy of the birth notice application I filled out where I clearly spelled it correctly. The customer service rep in their records department was extremely rude. Now we have to go through the trouble to get her birth certificate and social security card legally changed. This hospital is not worth the hassle! Trust me. Awful experience.

Writing this review as I'm sitting here waiting 30 minutes now for my car on a monday night. The only option is to valet park as there is no street parking nearby. Absolutely despicable that they charge you to visit sick family members and on top of that make you wait for a ridiculous amount of time. Definitely not looking forward to the hour long drive i have ahead of me!! These people just wasting my time!!

I delivered my son November 10th, 2019. The nurses was very helpful especially the Doula they provided for me. Her name is Ally and she was amazing. She was a volunteering Doula and she helped me through the entire process until I have birth. She was patient and kind. She made sure I was breathing properly. She gave me words of encouragement through the pain. She made sure I was comfortable. I thank God I delivered my son safely and I would recommend this hospital to anyone.

I waited almost 4 and a half hours in the Emergency room. The room behind me was empty and I was told that the room was reserved. I didn't get a room I was in the hallway on a stretcher 4.5 hours. The wait time to get a test done was very slow. I waisted my time. The same way I came into the emergency room, the same way I got out. I do not recommend this hospital, specially if you have private insurance. Poor quality service and very slow to respond to patients needs, extremely long wait time.

Had a double lung transplant and was treated like a king!!!!!. The 1&1/2 hrs. travel from N.J. for follow up is worthwhile. The staff, nurses and doctors are excellent at meeting your needs.

I am only leaving this review because I was shocked at so many bad ones. Simply for reference point, I will say that I am a 38 year old Black woman with subpar health insurance, and I was still treated with exceptional care, on three separate occasions. I’ll try to make this brief: • 1st was when Dr. Zager saved my life after an aneurysm ruptured in my brain. My trip to ER resulted in a bevy of neurologists coming in and out to test me, and consult with each other, throughout the evening. Once the root cause was determined, I was officially admitted and scheduled for surgery the following morning. • 2nd was when I contracted an extreme case of meningitis less than 4 years after my brain surgery. Due to my previous history with them, I was fast tracked and given a spinal tap while still in the ER and admitted expeditiously. • 3rd was for the birth of my child. Based off the exceptional treatment, thus far, I decided to transfer my prenatal with them as well. My OB, Dr. Ochs, was attentive, informative and even gave me her cell number in case of emergencies. They followed my birthing plan (natural, no IV fluids, etc.) down to providing a birthing ball during contractions. Though, I’ve had nothing but great experiences at this hospital, I will take away one star for their horrible ER situation. You can be there anywhere between 5-8 hours before being seen, and even longer when taken to the back. Also, the admittance personal isn’t always professional or compassionate in light of the various degrees of human frailty surrounding them. Even still, I trust them with my life, as they have, both saved my own and ushered in my child’s, miraculously.

Nurse Told me my foot was just bruised and I would be ok in a few days, looked at paperwork when I left said it was fractured and got the results on the Penn app saying it was fractured and needed to see a specialist...I can barely walk...and did nothing to the foot to protect it.

Absolutely the worst hospital ever!!!!!!! I had an allergic reaction and broke out severely into hives... I told them That I tried Benadryl and it didn’t work.. they decided to give it to me anyway and when I took it my lip swole up.. I walked up to the nurse to tell her and they suggested that I take another Benadryl and go back to the waiting area. I refused to take another one and say back down in the waiting area because they told me a doctor will see me.. it’s been another hour in addition to the previous 3 hours and they have done NOTHING to help me..

This is by far the best hospital in the Philadelphia area hands down. The Nurses are exceptional. The medical providers really care. The facilities are state of the art.

Amazing staff of doctors, nurses, and receptionists to make my mom feel at ease and relaxed. Only complaint was the no valet parking for patients having procedures done. We had to go to another building for parking. Overall, great staff and experience.

Today was a terrible day in emergency department at this hospital. We arrived at about 1pm. The triage was rushed and then my wife was put back in the waiting room with a large number of people coughing, sneezing and showing other ailments. My wife received chemo a week ago and needs to stay healthy. Unfortunately, there was no area where we could stay. We were sent to a room only to be moved around a number of times. The nursing staff tried to help but they had limited options. We found out about her condition when we called her oncologist. It is now 10 hours in the ER and still no luck in seeing a doctor. It seems that they rush to get you triage so they can bill the insurance. There were a number of people in the waiting room with similar wait times. This is in direct contrast to the treatment and organization at Perlman Center. This hospital has a great reputation for being one of the best however if you spend the time in the waiting room and do not get treatment the reputation doesn't matter.

Back in March of 2021 I had Open Heart Surgery consisting of a 7 Hr. Procedure to replace my bad Aortic Valve and 3" section of Ascending Aorta. Am not sure if I wrote a review since then...BUT...HERE IT GOES! I grew up about 15 mins up the river from this Hospital but for last 38 yrs have been living about 2 hrs away in Schuylkill CO, PA. I had a Choice of a few Hospitals but after visiting Dr Bavaria / Staff and Facilities the 1st time (which was actually the 2nd Hospital / Surgeon I consulted with) I knew I HAD TO LOOK NO MORE! Just as my Cardiologist stated a yr earlier "He is THE BEST IN HE WORLD" I soon started to see why? Instead of a 1 person (Surgeon) Consultaion consisting of only .5 Hr at my Local Hospital...You get TRIPLE TEAMED by (1st) Nurse Practitioner, (2nd) Fellow Assistant Surgeon...AND...(3rd) Dr Bavaria! After the ONE AND A HALF HOUR Consultation...they really give a feeling of "WE GOT YOUR BACK" Confidence!!! THEY'RE THE BOMB!!! (THANKS GUYS/GALS) Just as a few others have stated above...it starts with the Friendly Courteous Guard Staff outside around the Hospital, Everywhere else inside / around...right up to your Doctor's Office...That all familiar feeling of "THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE" (which somehow surprisingly through the decades has not lost that FEEL!) Contrary to what I've seen 1 or 2 other reviews say...This place is WELL ORGANIZED starting with my Phone Calls (from 2 hrs away), on through every Vist, Testing, through Surgery/Recovery...and on up to my 2nd and last Follow Up Visit!!! This Institution also follows a STRICT CLEANLINESS Routine! My Surgery was a HUGE SUCCESS making me feel Better than before...AND...as I said to the Nurse Practioner at my Last Visit..."I will continue to go to my Local Doctors...BUT...If I have to go to the Hospital for something Half Way Serious... IT'LL BE DOWN THERE AT U. of P.

I think I’m going to change back over to Jefferson-99% of these drs just flag you off like nothing is wrong! After a lot of drs appointments and money put out I’m still spinning in place!!! Like what’s going on with me does not matter to anyone at Penn. I been poked prodded for basically nothing!!! Everything is fine that’s the usual stance-this hospital should not be number 1 for what!!!! Going back to Jefferson when I can

I am having trouble with the 2 oxygen concentrator that the hospital order for me. When I was discharged on December 1,2022, they are keeping my nose dry and blood clots in my nose. I cannot sleep at night because my nose keeps clogging up. I have not had a good night sleep since I left the hospital. I have call the oxygen Co several times. They said that it is working wright. Who can I turn to for help. I have called several places to get help. I guess that when you are a senior you are suppose to take what they give you.

Let me start by saying Dr. Ian Frank is the best infectious disease doctor. Bedside manner second to none. Brilliant man. The best. I've been a patient at UPenn for 10 years. I always held hospital in high regard. Hostility, aggression, and bad attitudes however from Valet parking people. Very bad experience on the way to my appointment from them.

Great care at this hospital BUT..... they charge my insurance twice for everything creating a double copay or Coinsurance unlike other hospitals. If you have a procedure where you need an anesthesiologist, the hospital bills your insurance for the procedure ($200 copay for me) and the anesthesiologist bills for putting you to sleep (another $200). Other hospitals bill once together with just one copay. They also bill separate for procedures that require nuclear medicine creating a Coinsurance for me . I had $200 for the procedure and $1600 Coinsurance for the meds they administered. I'm a working man with kids and just can't afford our health. Our Healthcare is getting bad in this country while the CEOs of these hospitals get rich.

11th floor staff went above an beyond when my father was on hospice. They were wonderful towards him, my mom and my family. I really wish I got the name of the nurse and the nurses aide when I was there, so I could recognize them

Just want to leave this review for the AWESOME nurses aid Phyllis Carter - who was absolutely the nicest and most accommodating person in the hospital ! She was warm, friendly, just a beautiful human being. With my 91 year old father dying - in his last days right now, having Phyllis assigned to my father is a blessing. The reason I am giving 4 stars not 5, is that the doctors gave my father Haladrol as it’s something apparently that is given at the end of life. But it puts my father in a stupor. And he can’t communicate. It was requested this NOT be given to him. But the doctors did it anyway. NOW they are listening to us. The staff over all is friendly and competent. But this woman Phyllis - a definite asset to this hospital. Thank you.

This is the best hospital in my opinion in the entire city of Philadelphia. From the well trained staff to the cleanliness of the hospital. Please keep it up! I gave birth to all three of my children here and plan to give birth to the fourth one as well lol. They go above and beyond to assure that you are well cared for. It sucks some people had different experiences that didn’t go well . The only complaint I do have is that there was a nurse who said my children’s father could’nt be in the room when he administered my epidural with my second child which was bizarre to me because he was in the room with my first child. Any who this is the only hospital I trust compared to many.

“I need to convey the concerning situation at this hospital. I called an ambulance around 8 in the evening due to intense chest pain, fearing a possible heart attack or arrhythmia, both of which are critical emergencies. Despite arriving at the emergency room at 8 PM, I haven’t received any medical attention until 5 in the morning—7 hours in the waiting area. During this time, they only checked my blood pressure and informed me to wait longer. This is unacceptable. I will address this matter seriously with my mother, who is a lawyer. If anything happens to me, I formally hold the hospital responsible for negligence. My CSN: 380493435. Currently, my chest feels like it’s on fire, and despite explaining my situation, no action has been taken.”

Came here with my daughter who has Cystic Fibrosis for her to be admitted for IV antibiotics per the pulmonary clinic’s evaluation after looking at her PFT result and determining her symptoms warranted it. We have been waiting at the 6 hr mark in the waiting area. Got here at 3 n waiting area had approx. 12 people in it. If she doesn’t have the flu, Covid etc she will now! They did her bloodwork and sputum on arrival. Not one individual has listened to her lungs even after her nebulizer treatment which I had to ask for. Took 5 hrs to get an X-ray. CF patients need tuning up and a sputum takes at least 3 days for results. She’s her to start broad spectrum IV antibiotic therapy till her culture is back. No admission order no medication order and best of all no doctor evaluation yet! Their system to be blunt sucks.

What an amazing hospital and wonderful employees. Shout out to Thea from Housekeeping on Rhodes 3rd floor - my daughter was on that floor after thyroid cancer surgery and Thea made such an impression with her kindness to us and so many other patients on the floor. Bravo Thea!! We need more people like her in this world.

I have been seeing Dr. Goral in nephrology at Penn since 2018 for poly cystic kidney disease. In 2022 my condition worsened and I was told I would need a kidney transplant. The process was smooth, including visits to the Penn Transplant center at Reading Hospital where I now see nephrology since it is closer to home. I went active on the list in August of 22 and received my call in the very early morning hours February 28, 2023. I cannot be more impressed with the staff and care that I experieinced from the very first security guard that we met at 3:15 am upon arrival to the transport to the car when it was time for me to go home 3 days later. The new hospital is super high tech and I was lucky to have a beautiful view of the Philadelphia Skyline from my bed. The sunrise was amazing the morning after surgery, the first day of my new healthier life! My time in pre-op was made comfortable by nurse anesthetists Dana and Sarah, I was not nervous at all and everything was explained to me as they went through it. OR nurse, sorry do not remember his name was super comforting and Dr. Redfield was the best. The nurse in recovery allowed my husband and aunt to stay and see me before they left for the evening, even though it was after visiting hours by the time my surgery was complete. This was comforting to us all, I would not have wanted to wake up without them there to greet me. Every person who came into my room was polite and very happy to answer any questions I had and explain what to expect. A special thanks as well to Casey on the surgery team for taking amazing care of me at all my post op appointments. I am slowly transitioning all my care to Penn physicians and can't say enough about all of them so far. I would recommend any transplant patient to check out Penn for their care!

I don’t care how many new hospitals they built in Philadelphia, if they don’t have “people” there who really want to help and take care of the people it’s worthless. I’ve never experienced anything like this and that was my first time in an ER. Worst ever! I’m happy I know the board of directors they need to hear about this! They don’t take peoples needs seriously and I had bad chest pains and feelings in my heart. Worst place ever!

My beloved urinary cath came apart and he had a wet bed for over 6 hours. Photos of cath bag and dirty towel kicked under the bed on the floor. Infection control. This is absolutely poor nursing. Icu stroke 6 hours and nobody checks ?? What are you doing for my . Not stepping up is unacceptable. Teaching is not happening with this poor care.
