NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens: Emergency Room

Emergency room

😠 I went to the psychward due to feeling suicidal and I thought I made the right choice. They took me in. But they just put me in a room and ignored me. I wasn't offered any food until 11 PM (I arrived at around noon) and they only offered water when I asked for sleeping pills. Not to mention they did... People often mention room, hours, hospital, emergency, nurse, people, time, doctor, care, waiting,

Get here today at 1pm for a scheduled 1:20pm appointment for a COVID-19 booster shot (made the appointment online). Make my way to the vaccine area, just to find out that there really are NO Appointments, it's just one big line that you get in for walk ups and booked appointments. Line is about 100 deep, moving slowly. We're inside (good because it's cold, bad because there is a COVID-19 surge). So here standing surrounded by too many people, 5 months pregnant with a 3 year old being watched at home, with no clue when I'll get my booster. If I had know it was walk up and appointments were not being honored, I would have tried to come at 7am (which was not a time I could book online) because at least I might have been surrounded by less people. Now I'm going to be late getting back to work, and being exposed to way too many strangers indoors, all because of poor communication, management, and planning. Unacceptable. Horrible. Beware, there aren't any actual appointments! Conveniently I had time to write this review because guess where I am ... still standing in line for my "appointment ".

The reason I gave Queens Hospital five stars is because the doctors are amazing. If you wanna die go on over to Jamaica Hospital because they specialize in that. but if you want to live come to Queens Hospital Center. Some of the nurses and staff really don’t care, but you have those special ones that have been here for years. plus that really care about Patient for example. One of the best nurses I met is on the first floor observation room she is very caring loving and understanding I am not a very happy patient but she still and tried to make me smile she did her job very well and knows what she’s doing so if you need a outstanding Nurse ask for her, Her name is Gorathy Opara LPN. made my stay at queens hospital very comfortable. She is a Great nurse and other nurses should lead like her. Now we have someone from Transportation I want to talk about him from the start he makes you smile because he speaks so well and comforting that it makes you feel like you’re sure you’re with someone who’s going to take you where you need to go and not be afraid he’s also handsome. That along with his intelligence is a good thing to see our young men out here doing what They have to do to make that step up the ladder that young man’s name is Neil from Transportation keep up the good work Neil and thank you for being so supportive well that’s it for now everyone have a blessed day

I went to the psychward due to feeling suicidal and I thought I made the right choice. They took me in. But they just put me in a room and ignored me. I wasn't offered any food until 11 PM (I arrived at around noon) and they only offered water when I asked for sleeping pills. Not to mention they didn't give me a blanket until I repeatedly asked for it. All staff ignore you. I'm a very soft spoken person and because of that they just acted like I didn't exist. I asked for tissues. Didn't get them till 3 hrs after asking so many people. You shouldn't ignore patients who need help. This is just going to make them more "insane" and act out. At least I had some sense and was lucky enough to see that. There's no source of entertainment either. I'm not asking for a TV but at least provide books to read or magazines. Put some paintings on the wall. The room just had white walls. Not even decorative wallpaper. It's like they want you to act out. I wish the room they held me in was sound proof. I woke up at 3 am because of the other more unstable patients plus floor staff being a bit rowdy. And the bathroom... no toilet paper and no soap. We're in the middle of a pandemic.... you really can't provide toilet paper so I can wipe myself and soap to properly wash my hands!? Not to mention one of the more unstable patients just flat out peed on the floor and another just walked out naked. They asked me the next morning if I was okay. Of course I said yes. I went in there to get help and guidance. Not to be thrown into a room for 24 hrs with no attention to be left alone by myself and with my own hurtful thoughts. I came out traumatized so in a way I guess they did help. They helped me snap out of attempting suicide in fear of ever ending up there and staying there for a second longer.

Extremely unsanitary. Extremely unprofessional. Nurses repeatedly cursed at me while they were caring for me. Nurses forced me to sleep on feces soiled sheets and with feces soiled blankets. Feces throughout the floor near the bed and in the room's bathroom. Janitor never truly cleaned even though he showed up numerous times. The room required an urgent deep cleaning. They tried to force me to take drugs that are inappropriate for me and refused to listen to my needs. They clearly misdiagnosed my issues. They gave me medications that made me sicker. If you ever end up as an inpatient in this hospital, dial 911 immediately and ask for a transfer! New York Presbyterian Queens has significant issues but it's much cleaner and it's much safer and it's much more reliable. The best time to register there is after 7am.

Does not even deserve one star. I just returned from a 3 hour wait at this emergency room. I went through what they said was registration… patients that came after me kept being called into the triage area… and I was waiting in gruesome pain. I went to the receptionist nurse to ask what happened, and this guy joked saying I should walk inside the emergency area and ask what’s happening. I got upset when the triage nurse came out asking for more cases and my labels were missing. One of people from the reception took me to “fast track” emergency after realizing the error. Once I got inside, it was even worse!!! People inside didn’t have space to sit down! Patients had been waiting for five hours and hadn’t had their vitals taken… no one took my vitals, nor spoke to me. I understood that I wasn’t getting any medical attention here. Came back home for the night, going to my primary physician tomorrow morning. Hopefully I make it. If you wanna live, don’t go to this emergency room. Just utterly terrible!

I want to start off by saying that I never ever comment anything no matter how bad I have been treated by a certain organization or industry. However, because we are in a global pandemic and we need our healthcare providers more than ever, I will address this situation. This is one of the worst ER ever!!! Please refrain from going there if you want to live. I was rushed to this ER after testing positive for Covid-19. I had irregular heartbeats and trouble breathing to the point that I thought I will get a heart attack. When I got there, I overheard someone saying “she looks fine to me” then they took me inside. After some time, a nurse came and ran some tests. The nurse was rude and asked me if I wear mask everywhere I go, I said yes I always wear my mask. She replied saying some people think they can just go out without wearing mask because they are vaccinated. She was trying to blame me for being diagnosed with Covid, which is sad. She left and no one came to check up on me after hours of being in a room alone with no assistance. I waved at one of the nurse if he can call someone to assist me & take me to the restroom because I was feeling dizzy, he said okay but no one came. I was in the room alone for hours. Then a guy came claiming he’s my nurse. He did bloodwork and inserted a needle for the IV drip but didn’t attach a drip (as you can see in the picture). He never came back. Few minutes later, the doctor arrives, she states she’ll check on my tests and get back to me and if it looks fine, I will be discharged. Waiting…..another nurse arrives and tells me he will put me in another room with another positive patient because they don’t have enough room. When he’s taking me, the nurse that took my blood test, tells him that I am getting discharge so he takes me back to the room I was staying in. Few minutes later he arrives, checks my heart rate and tells me its still a little fast but that’s fine. He also told me my test results came clear so I asked him why my heart is beating so fast. He didn’t have an answer, he just said the only explanation is Covid. He didn’t tell me anything else, they didn’t prescribe me anything. They just discharged me knowing I was still not feeling well. I took an Uber home, feeling like I will fall any second. I am still experiencing these symptoms and dreading to go to ER because of what I went through. Covid positive patients should be taken extremely seriously because it’s a very dangerous virus that can get you killed. The lack of empathy shown to me in this ER hurt me in a way I can’t describe. I was feeling sorry for all the positive Covid patients who lost their lives because the staff didn’t show any empathy towards them. I am not bashing all the staff there, I am sure there are wonderful doctors and nurses there. I am just stating my experience.

Worst hospital in the world absolutely the worse and I can't believe I used to go here as a kid. My sister had a problem with her appendix and they thought she was just being annoying.... Guess what !? We went to Long island Jewish hospital which is clearly million times better and they diagnosed her and found out her appendix had to be removed. If we actually believed queens hospital and gone home I would have lost a sister who I love very much and thank God she is still in my life until now. QUEENS HOSPITAL IS THE VERY WORST HOSPITAL OF THEM ALL!!!!!! NEVER COME HERE ESPECIALLY IN A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION.

Just rude and unprofessional. Joseph and dr.k in the urgent care was very unprofessional and did not help at all with my pain. Instead they were arguing with me made me wait in the room with other patients for 4 hours just to prescribe me some Tylenol which I can get from otc.

The emergency room apparently does not allow one support person in with an ill adult. My mother is vaccinated and they would not allow her into the emergency room to accompany my father (who doesn’t speak English very well). This is a pathetic excuse of an emergency room and the people who work here are absolutely inadequate. Take your loved ones somewhere else!!

My job was to transport a patient and it was not a pleasant experience. They knew I was coming but it still took them another half an hour for a doctor to come up, and then another half an hour to get patient in a wheelchair. Staff was mostly rude but somewhat friendly after I practiced some kindness. I’m sure they do not like their jobs very much and the culture could be better. I will give it to the police officer there who allowed me to park in the handicapped spot and did not write me a ticket.

Lousy. No other way to say it. You would think a cancer patient would be treated with urgency but it was quite the opposite. My mother and I waited half the day to get her an x-ray done in the end to waste time and have her admitted. I was kicked out before I could even find out what room she would be in. Never bothered the staff all day and the one time I asked about her admission I was met with extreme rudeness from the doctor herself. She was very unprofessional and her attitude was uncalled for. I will be giving a complaint guaranteed.

Worst experience yet, I sat in an uncomfortable chair for 7 hours and then I was told I’m being discharged.. No doctor spoke to me about what was going on. 4 hours after my IV finished I seriously considered refusing further treatment and going to another hospital. I was there from 4-11pm. Samples taken around 4, IV finished at 5:30PM then i squirmed around in a chair until 11. Nobody told me what was wrong, nobody updated me on results. I still have a fever and chills, I was only treated for one of my symptoms. If I have no improvement overnight, I’m going to a different hospital. Today being Christmas shouldn’t compromise your patient engagement.

Zero stars if i could. Its 12/24 1:30 pm and I have been on call hold for two hours trying to get a hold of someone in the ER. I understand it is Christmas and Covid rates are extremely high, I can only imagine what our frontline workers go through but this is unacceptable for an emergency room. The man that I spoke to when I was connected to the ER receptionist, he seemed unable to understand what I was saying. Mind you, he was extremely calm, no rush manner. First I told him I would like an update on a patient that was admitted to the ER room and he proceeded to tell me that I had the wrong number which I then repeated my statement, and then he responded with putting me on hold. Now he did not mute his end of the line for the entirety of the call. This man and his coworker, I'm assuming another receptionist were talking and laughing for a whole 2 hours, every now and then talking to patients I believe at the front desk. He had multiple chances to pick the phone up and just give me an update. Im not a nurse or doctor nor a receptionist but i’m assuming it takes about 10 minuets to go look at said patient, read their chart, come back to the line and explain through the phone. Within the two hours that i’ve been on hold, this man could not spare me 10 minutes while he is laughing and chatting with his co worker. He could have even asked for a nurse. This is unacceptable and I hung up. If you care about your family and friends I beg you not to send them here as they are completely irresponsible and unprofessional. I am desperately trying to find out wether my loved one is okay and he could not give me an ounce of his time. DO NOT GO HERE.

I have been a patient here since the day I was born and everytime I come here, they attend me really fast and they give me the appropriate testing to figure out what I have. When I get admitted at night, its the time where not many people are in the ER and the nurses and doctor make you feel comfortable and assist you in any way they can. Despite the other bad reviews, I truly feel that the staff try their best to help, especially when there are people who give them a hard time. Keep in mind that the ER is a really busy place and nurses work up to 12hrs a day. I give this place 5 stars. Also, especially during COVID time, not many people are allowed inside the ER (only the patient) which is totally understandable since they don't want people to contact the virus and for safety. I don't understand why people are getting heated when they can't see their family member when it clearly says there is a limit number of people. Put yourself in prospective and stay safe!

I was here from Saturday 1am to Monday at 4:45pm. I enjoyed my stay because of the awesome, quick, and patient nurses as well as the doctors. The food was pretty good too and t the wait in the emergency room was only 4/5 hours (I'm used to waiting longer than that. I'm so done with Harlem hospital completely. This will be my go to hospital for appointments and emergencies for my son and I.

It’s very unprofessional activities with every sector. There is not any emergency service they have. They treat like normal patients. I have nothing to say

I was there because I was suicidal ideation because I'm being verbally and emotionally abused in the homeless shelter. I was evaluated by the psychiatrist in the emergency room and he cleared me then a psychiatric nurse prationeer elevated me and told me that I'm being sent over to CPAP for psychiatric Ed and when they sent me over my blood pressure was 76/30 and CPAP sent me back and they gave me iv fluids. I sent back over to the CPAP and the next day the social worker didn't care about that I'm being verbally and emotionally abused.

The emergency room in Queens General needs so much more improvement. If one is not able to advocate for themselves they are lost. I have experienced at its worst during Covid; and I can truly say I haven’t seen much change. The nurses are unresponsive. I feel sorry for the ones that have no family to intercede for them.

Waited for more than 4 hours at the ER, and still waiting, they are so disorganized. The worst ever.

😠 Was literally a victim of harassment and a hate crime by medical doctors and over 12 nurses and custodians and other employees. Very unsafe place as a trans individual . I’m still having nightmares and have Covid and don’t feel safe to get care anymore.
