As a new fly fisherman, I felt welcomed and comfortable here. They were more than willing to answer any and all questions I had, even the most basic ones. I bought some waders and boots, and asked if they'd throw together a little grab bag of common flies for me to practice with. They were knowledgeable about the craft and honest about pricing. I consider this place my spot for all my fly fishing needs going forward.

These guys were great!! Went in and spent an hour with them having zero fly fishing experience. They answered all my stupid questions and set me up with the bare minimum to get started. Would have spent a lot more if I wasn't getting on a plane the next night. They made so the other fly fishermen on the Clackamas River didn't laugh me out of the water on a Sunday morning. Would have loved to take one or two of their classes but time made it not feasible.

Kind and helpful, great shop. They don’t mind me bugging them over and over about fly tying questions. They even started selling small mixed hackle packs so beginners don’t have to buy huge amounts just to try out new patterns.

Had a great experience salmon fishing with the shop. Guide was professional and knew what he was doing. I would recommend giving them a call if interested in finding a fly fishing guide in the area.

Fantastic first visit! I was in the market for a new reel and line and also wanted to find a local fly shop to be my go-to place. I figured the test was to see if they would listen to my stories and help me pick the right items. Boy did Nick and Jonesy pass the test! Listened carefully and patiently and gave me great advice, but absolutely no pressure. I think I'm going to love what I ended up buying and I am 100% sure that I have found my local go-to fly shop. I couldn't quit asking Nick questions because he was such a wealth of information on everything from gear to local fishing. I will definitely be back!

Incredible teachers! I knew nothing at all about fishing. My partner and I took a class with Monica. When we left, we felt like we knew enough that we can now go purchase gear and practice the skills she taught us on our own. It's not likely we'll be master anglers anytime soon but goodness is it a confidence boost. Plus! You can ring them and they'll give you suggestions for where to fish. Massively thankful for these folks. They're great teachers and really good people.

Had wader boots the size I needed in stock at the same price as other stores both guys in shop were very nice and helpful with fishing info and gear info will be back to buy more gear from them

What a great shop, I could spend hours here talking and browsing. Not sure if he was the owner but the gentleman who has helped me in the past is extremely down to earth. He set up his old ninja turtles arcade machine so my wife and daughter could enjoy themselves while he gave me great tips on tying as well as some new spots to try from my area.

Amazing day learning the ins and outs of fly fishing with Mo and John. I highly recommend taking a class with both Mo and John if you are just getting started and new to the sport or looking to refine your skills. Both are extremely knowledgeable and very patient. I also recommend swinging by the shop to get everything you need in terms of gear. Great selection and everyone is very friendly

Super friendly staff and very knowledgeable! These guys are definitely there to help with all your fly fishing needs! I'm visiting from out-of-state and I was staying within 5 minutes of a different fly shop but they've had too many negative customer interactions (according to Google reviews) so I decided to drive 20 minutes to this one and I'm glad I did! It'd be my go-to fly shop if I lived in Portland

My class with Mo and John was fantastic! Great instruction and insight on getting started in fly fishing. Highly recommend the class and The Portland Fly Shop for anyone.

Good selection of flies, fly tying materials, gear, and apparel. What makes this shop shine is the owner and staff. Most fly shops I have been to always have a sort of “I’m better than you” vibe among staff. I’ve never felt this at Portland Fly Shop. Despite what some of the older bad reviews say, I’ve never experienced pretentiousness here, and I’ve been going here since 2018. Staff are always willing to talk about rivers and provide good tips. I don’t expect fly shops to give out their key spots ever, but many times someone working there has talked my ear off about how to fish a certain river I’m heading to and has helped me get on some fish. Definitely my favorite shop in the Portland area.

Flew into Portland from Roanoke, Virginia and made a stop at the Portland Fly shop. Best stop ever! Friendly, knowledgeable people with spot on advice and he picked out the perfect flies and gave excellent tips on fishing the areas I was going to visit.

Over priced flys I got a couple fish with a lot of effort but 5/8 flys I bought broke at the barb very disappointing when you spend 45 dollars for 8 flys 1 star for the fish tho!

After find my waders too far gone to patch a few days before a trip, I called the Portland Fly Shop. They had the size I needed(which I normally have to special order), and got it shipped out that day. Thanks Nick for saving the day! Andy D
