I
have
a
relative
currently
admitted
into
John
George.
She
is
actively
suicidal
and
has
discussed
suicide
plans
with
me
openly
via
the
phone
and
the
psychiatrist
is
planning
on
discharging
her
anyway.
The
psychiatrist
listed
5
reasons
for
the
discharge:
1.
Her
clinical
assessment
is
that
my
relative
is
not
suicidal
although
she
states
she
is.
2.
Although
this
facility
is
the
only
hospital
in
the
county
that
takes
Medi-Cal
insurance,
they
will
not
admit
her.
They
also
cannot
transfer
her
to
another
facility
because
they
are
the
only
ones
who
take
her
insurance.
(Figure
that
out).
3.
My
relative
is
"aggresive".
Isn't
the
best
place
for
a
patient
who
has
become
aggressive
and
is
suicidal
a
psychiatric
hospital?
What
am
I
missing?
4.
While
she
thinks
she
needs
admission,
IOP,
or/and
significant
counseling,
she
will
have
to
go
to
a
other
county
to
receive
it.
If
she
discharges
her
and
my
relative
commits
suicide,
the
onus
is
on
the
family
as
we
did
not
take
her
out
of
county
to
see
help.
This
is
insanity.
5.
My
relative
is
refusing
admission
which
is
a
blatant
lie
because
my
relative
is
literally
screaming,
"I
am
not
refusing
admission.
When
I
told
the
psychiatrist
she
needed
to
reasses
her
faulty
assessment
she
became
defensive
and
dismissive.
By
the
end
of
the
call
the
gist
is
"I
am
the
doctor
and
I
said
so."
None
of
my
questions
were
answered.
Many
illogical
excuses
were
given.
She
was
not
willing
to
discuss
potential
solutions.
She
was
arrogant
and
quite
honestly
seemed
a
bit
unstable
herself.
When
my
relative
reported
she
felt
she
was
being
mistreated
because
"the
doctor
did
not
like
her"
I
told
her
she
was
most
likely
perceiving
it
to
be
that
way.
But
after
speaking
to
the
doctor
and
a
nurse,
I
believe
she
is
correct.
She
was
denied
a
cup
of
water,
handwashing
or
hand
sanitizer,
and
denied
tampons
due
to
"policy".
Are
tampons
dangerous
contraband?
I
am
thoroughly
confused.
It
took
months
to
convince
her
to
seek
inpatient
help
following
multiple
suicide
attempts.
2
of
which
were
serious.
When
she
finally
agrees,
she
is
abused
and
told
she
isn't
good,
suicidal,
or
serious
enough
to
receive
crisis
care.
It
is
mind
numbing.
There
is
no
"patient
service"
department
where
I
can
advocate
for
keeping
her
safe.
The
hospital
switchboard
bounced
me
around
to
multiple
departments.
When
I
finally
spoke
to
someone,
she
answered
the
phone,
Hi.
Hi.
Hello,
and
did
not
identify
herself.
Then
when
I
began
to
explain
the
situation,
she
told
me
I
had
the
wrong
number.
Which
is
impossible
because
I
reached
her
within
the
hospital
phone
system.
I
have
put
a
call
into
adult
protect
service,
but
was
told
they
have
nobody
on
the
weekends.
No
crisis
social
workers
on
weekends
in
Alameda
county
to
take
abuse
complaints?
Then
I
was
told
they
couldn't
take
information
because
since
she
is
not
on
SSI
she
"cannot"
be
disabled.
What?!?
She
has
multiple
psych
diagnoses
over
the
span
of
15
years,
so
I
am
unsure
why
not
having
SSI
benefits
is
the
qualifier.
So
now
I
am
waiting
to
see
if
she
is
discharged
and
drives
into
a
building
like
she
just
stated
shed
would.
I
have
read
a
lot
of
these
reviews
and
I
am
wondering
why
this
pit
is
still
open.
My
relative
is
trying
to
reach
out
for
protection
and
care,
but
it
seems
she
will
only
be
helped
if
she
suffers
bodily
harm
from
another
serious
suicide
attempt.
I
can
clearly
see
why
the
suicide
rates
in
California
are
soaring.
If
you
don't
have
good
private
insurance,
you
are
tossed
aside.
None
of
this
is
ok,
but
as
long
as
this
incompetent
doctor
and
staff
get
paid
for
providing
subpar
care
and
discharging
ar
risk
patients,
I
guess
the
system
is
working
as
designed.
I
hope
everyone
here
who
also
sought
help
only
to
be
treated
like
they
do
not
matter
realize
the
problem
is
not
you.
The
pproblem
is
the
lunatics
are
literally
running
the
asylum.
You
matter.
Keep
fighting
for
your
life.
This
is
not
your
fault.
Im
not
sure
what
good
it
will
do,
but
I
will
make
multiple
reports
to
agencies
that
are
supposed
to
oversee
these
facilities,
to
HHS,
and
medical
board
for
negligence
of
the
attending
doctor
