I am a big fan of Central Fish Company. I travel quite extensively. While in Fresno California some years back, I stumbled across another hidden jewel located in historic Chinatown Fresno. Central Fish company has been around for over 100 years. This establishment is a fish market/Asian grocery store/mercantile/sit down eatery. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions all orders are takeout only. I drive almost 2 hours just to eat at this place. I really love their fish and chips. They have different types of fish that you can pick, and a wide assortment of food items on their menu. The staff is friendly, and the environment is welcoming. The food? Amazing! If you are a fan of the Hawaiian dish Poke, they offer freshly made meals to go. You can purchase this in the eatery, or from the fish market counter. You can even request samples to taste.

This is the squid and veggie tempura plate, with salad and rice, for only $8.29. The squid had an excellent texture and was very flavorful. The vegetable tempura was light and crispy and the veggies had a lot of flavor. All of the sauces you want are included for free. The plate is very filling and delicious. I would highly recommend this place!

Delicious fish in casual cafe/diner environment. I tried the Fish, Salad, and Rice lunch for less than $10 and couldn’t finish it - two people with light appetites could easily split this and be happy. The fish was cooked perfectly. Light. Crispy batter. Very little oil.

We haven't dined at Central Fish Market for years! We decided to stop by on Friday night and had an early dinner there. Absolutely delightful and fresh. Their portion is very generous, and their prices are way less than other restaurants. My Seafood Poke Bowl include a separate bowl of Spicy Ahi Tuna (they only offer spicy or non-spicy, with nothing in between). The Spicy Ahi side is definitely SPICY 🌶🌶🌶 Overall they were the freshest seafood we have ever had in Fresno.

I don't come here too often since it's a bit out of the way for me but the few times I've been here especially during the night market, it's definitely left a good impression on me. They have a decent variety of Asian groceries/snacks and of course seafood. I really enjoy their food from the restaurant, that's one thing I can confidently say is worth getting here if you happen to be nearby!

Today I called and asked about the crab claws. He rudely answered in Spanish and continued. I was clearly speaking in English and I also advised him of that. I thanked him for the information. Before I could ask another question, he had no response and slammed the phone down in my face. No one has ever treated me this way before. I am quite upset. If I’m treated like that again, I will take my business elsewhere.

Teriyaki chicken bowl was nothing great. Chicken was a bit on the dry side and had somewhat the appearance of you pick out and set aside if your like me when it comes to eating certain meats. The Teriyaki sauce had a good light flavor but too thin for my liking. And for those who don't like green onion remember to ask for none. Honestly I probably won't ever get there chicken Teriyaki bowl again.

Got the Fish and vegtables, clam strips and the sesame red paste balls. Great fry on all..Not greasy. Needed some salt but just my preference.

I can't explain how cool it is to walk into central fish and be able to come out with exactly what you've been craving. Dungeness crab and some exotic candies today. Pricing was on point also. $30 for this much crab.

So much variety. They have a huge abundance of fish and seafood. They were preparing to butcher a large fish of some sort right there. The little restaurants food is fresh. It was possibly the lightest fish and chips we have ever had. Not at all oily. Very hearty portions

The food at the restaurant is fresh cooked and the prices are so reasonable for all of their menu items. Employees are always courteous. They cook your tempura fresh and the batter is light and not the doughy gross kind. You can get as much tempura sauce, chili sauce, soy sauce, and tartar sauce at no additional charge. You can dine in or get your food to go. Also, the grocery store has pre-made bento to go boxes (salmon and chicken). Side dishes in the bento boxes are gyoza, veggies, tempura, kimpira, kabocha, and other yummy food. They have sushi to go too. It is not the gross sushi that they sell at Costco, but real authentic sushi. The sushi prices are super cheap compared to a restaurant. When we need to serve sushi for our family, we purchase it from here, because it taste like the kind that my mother made. This place is a hidden gem in Fresno. Food is super great tasting and priced way less than any other place I eat at! We eat here at least once a week. You will not be disappointed with anything that you order from here!

Found to be rude, abusive & discriminating. A test that presented itself. Went on 2 different times, dressed 2 different ways(not purposely). Dy 1-treated extremely well by young lady cashier. Dy 2- had not even entered store because I was searching pockets for mask. Owner came out & told me to leave, that I couldn't come in. Another employee came out aggressive & mean. Also derogatory name calling by 2nd man.. Needless to say I was hurt & angry. At that point I became unglued. Gave what for on how they treat people & their discriminating assumptions). Especially with both being foreigners. Believe under nee ownership because all previous experiences were great. Food in restaurant section not as good anymore either.

I've been going there for years. The people there are always helpful and friendly. The restaurant is good and the selection has gotten better. It's not a 5-star restaurant but it's very good. A good place to go for lunch if you work down town. Oh, and their selection of grocery items also got much better, too.

Stopped here to eat with my grandfather. The food was okay. I've not had fish and chips outside of a beach or a major seafood restaurant before and found that the tartar sauce was just okay. The fish was mediocre at best, chewy, most definitely frozen before but deep fried and filling. The fries were Krispy. It took a while to receive our order, which surprised me as it wasn't that busy. The cost is fair. It is greasy, so warning If your stomach is easily upset.

Came there for the food trucks event. It's expensive AF and food is mediocre at best. Nothing special.

Central fish is my go to place when we want to have a sushi date at home or for oysters. I haven't found the oyster selection they have anywhere else. They are always fresh and great quality. Staff are very helpful and the store is always nice, tidy and clean. They have great prepared food as well if you are looking for a bite to eat.

This place is still amazing! But, the upstairs shop has shrunken and they no longer have fresh, handmade mochi. But the folks working there are great! And all their quality and selection is still pretty fantastic! I haven't had any food from their new(er) restaurant, but I will be checking it out soon! Their fish looks absolutely killer! Unfortunately I haven't been able to eat fish in over 20 years, so I go for the snacks, the drinks, the candy and the kitchen utensils and dishes!

This place has fresh selections of ocean fish to make your own sushi at home. Plus, there's a nice little dine-in restaurant with tasty food. Chiefs cook on the spot for you. The grocery isles has so many things from drinks, to ingredients, snacks, to cooking supplies and so many more to list. It's a real fun experience for families and friends.

We are going to miss this gem! Food is always great. We enjoyed the fish, squid, and tempura shrimp with a side of tempura vegetables this last visit.

My friend and I went to this Fish Market and was treated with the upmost disrespect from one of their employees working behind the counter at the fish market. My friend asked the employee if they had any more fish in the back to purchase and the employee said yes with a negative attitude. He proceed to the back and when he returned he began to tell us we were waisting time by being here and along with other rude comments. This was my second time at this store and I was never treated as such. Im sorry but the customer service I received from there fish department was unacceptable and not called for. I will not be returning to this buisness especially to purchase fish.

Over fried shrimp and clams. Almost burnt. Couldn’t even eat them. Never ate there before and I’ll never eat there again. Wasn’t even close to satisfactory. It’s like they fried everything together in a vat of oil that is in need of changing. Very disappointing.

Hope y’all who live in the Fresno area purvey this here establishment because there’s nothing like it down my way in Visalia. This is my one stop shopping point for fresh seafood and all the accoutrements needed to make my next meal the best. Thanks CFC. C u soon.

I love this place and it's my go-to for quality fish, especially since it's a long drive from my home to their location. I would give it a solid five stars if it were not for the unfortunate road construction and the congregation of homeless lingering in the vicinity.

Good Food place for both cooked and uncooked fishy products yet ! Wouldn't Provide too much of it -- Like I ordered fried tilapia as a soup but they hadn't given me enough of the fried fish , I barely even know if I liked the meal to even order it again or want to come back to this particular restaurant.

This old time favorite Fish Market is getting very hard to get to. Surrounded by homeless tents and in a very bad area with road construction oh, I just could not take it and I kept driving. It was very scary and I drove to get some miso paste and Dashi Moto soup base. These items are getting hard to find especially the traditional old fashioned food. The fish market was the only place I knew to get these things but I can't get to this Market anymore because they absolutely will not open this door in a better part of town. But they are still family owned and very good people.

The most fresh seafood you could get in the Central Valley! I love this place! History built upon history! And it's still standing strong in the heart of downtown Fresno!

  • 4/5 Danielle M. 2 years ago on Google
Restaurant is fairly quick cooking up your order but lets you know if it will take more than about 10 minutes. Crispy and nonfishy fish and chips so you can tell it is fresh. Their Fish and Vegetables came with 4-5 pieces of tempura, and 4 huge pieces of fish! It was way more than I could eat... ended up taking it home for a late night snack! The store has a good selection of sauces, noodles, spice, etc, though a little pricy.
