Dumbarton House is a historic house in Georgetown built in 1800 when the federal government was in Philadelphia and not D.C. It was a private residence until 1928 when it became the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America HQ. Four years later, they opened a house museum inside. They offer tours for $10 and it takes you through the house museum on the ground floor and the exhibit on the second floor, which rotates every six months. There's also a large garden on the property as well. Dumbarton House also hosts some of the most unique events in the city- 1) The Dumbarton House in Georgetown hosts some of the most unique events in the city- 1) Jane Austen movie nights on July Wednesdays in the garden, 2) Ice cream making on the lawn in honor of First Lady Dolley Madison, 3) Afternoon tea for families, and 4) Chamber music concerts. If you love events and history, it's worth a visit. The staff are also very friendly and very knowledgeable about D.C. and the museum industry.

My party payed $10 each for a self-guided tour. Much of the museum was closed off and, although there were some interesting rooms (I think there were three in total), the entire experience was very underwhelming. I love this sort of thing and so have gone to a lot of similar places, and this simply was not well done. If it were free I would give it a better review, but paying $10 for it was ridiculous. Would not suggest.

Not fun at all, the experience is just one bedroom, some information, and that is the end of the tour, for 10 bucks each person, it's a scam, and do not recommend, unless you like the person

Interesting history & loved the story of how women led preservation efforts. Not slot to see, but worth an hour or so of time.

Very nice historic site and interiors. Small parking lot a plus for visitors. But many steps up to the site.

Dumbarton is a remarkable venue for a small and intimate wedding. They have a beautiful garden (with a lovely brick backdrop) for the ceremony and an outdoor cocktail hour. We had the reception in a lower level tented area complete with interior bar and dance floor. Street parking is difficult to find.

To be honest, I was working there as a banquet server for a wedding reception. But the house was amazingly beautiful! I recommend people to visit.

Conservative of love for Dumbarton House can be experienced in every room. If visiting DC and you want to experience an old era this is a beautiful place to visit. It is wheelchair accessible the staff friendly and free. Donations suggested.

We had our wedding at Dumbarton House last year. They have a great team and are well prepared to work with repeat vendors to ensure success. For anyone considering this venue: The site allows for great "sectioning" where dinner setup, cocktail hour, and family photos can all be happening on site simultaneously with no one bumping into each other. Highly recommend the garden for cocktail hour, just know you'll need lighting. Doing this frees up the entire "upper deck" of house, upper terrace, north garden etc for photos with no one seeing or in your way.

Great architecture of the Federalist period. Also historical cemeteries nearby, worth exploring as well.

Went for a free concert night. Don't explore anything but they have nice little lawn..

I was very disappointed, there was not very much to see although the grounds were very pretty.

Stunning Georgetown venue. I am a photographer who found their staff to be great and the entire place to be picture perfect.
