My
husband
is
buying
me
a
ring
to
commemorate
our
25th
anniversary.
We
went
to
Zales
and
found
a
couple
of
rings
that
I
liked,
but
I
didn't
love
them,
so
I
decided
to
take
a
little
time
to
think
about
it.
I
went
home
and
looked
on
their
website
to
see
if
there
was
anything
online
that
they
didn't
have
in
the
store.
I
found
a
ring
I
liked,
and
called
back
the
same
day.
I
asked
for
Roberta,
because
she
was
the
salesperson
who
had
helped
us
when
we
were
in
the
store,
just
a
few
hours
earlier.
She
said
we
could
order
the
ring
and
have
it
sent
to
the
store,
and
if
we
didn't
like
it
we
could
return
it.
I
asked
her
if
she
would
get
the
commission
if
we
did
it
that
way,
and
she
said
that
in
order
for
her
to
get
the
commission
she
would
need
to
place
the
order
from
the
store
herself
rather
than
having
me
do
it,
which
was
fine
with
me.
It's
important
to
me
for
someone
to
get
the
commission
if
they
sell
me
something.
I
had
been
given
a
coupon
code
online
for
$50
off
my
purchase,
and
she
said
I
would
be
able
to
use
that
as
well,
so
I
gave
her
the
code.
She
told
me
the
code
was
coming
up
as
invalid,
which
seemed
strange
since
they
had
just
sent
it
to
me
that
day.
She
said
she'd
call
me
back
after
she
talked
to
their
I.T.
people.
I
didn't
hear
from
her
for
the
rest
of
the
day,
but
she
did
call
and
leave
a
message
the
next
day,
so
I
called
her
back.
She
said
that
their
I.T.
department
was
still
trying
to
figure
out
a
way
to
give
me
the
discount.
I
told
her
that
if
they
couldn't
get
the
coupon
to
work,
not
to
worry
about
it.
I
just
wanted
to
get
the
ring
ordered.
She
assured
me
that
one
way
or
another
they
would
get
me
the
discount.
That
was
two
weeks
ago,
and
I
haven't
heard
from
her
since.
I
finally
resigned
myself
to
the
fact
that
this
woman
was
never
going
to
call
me
back.
I
thought
about
calling
her
one
more
time,
but
I
decided
to
do
a
little
more
research
first,
and
that's
when
I
came
across
articles
stating
that
Zales
has
been
accused
of
switching
people's
diamonds
for
lesser
quality
diamonds
when
they
bring
their
jewelry
in
for
repair.
They
also
apparently
engage
in
some
questionable
accounting
when
it
comes
to
their
financing,
and
they
are
being
sued
by
an
Idaho
jeweler
for
manipulating
Google
search
results.
The
accusation
is
that
just
before
Black
Friday
2016,
Zales
manipulated
search
results
in
such
a
way
that
a
customer
looking
for
the
other
jeweler
would
be
redirected
to
Zales'
website.
So,
very
questionable
business
practices
-
strike
two.
I
wasn't
sure
I
even
wanted
to
do
business
with
them
at
this
point,
but
I
decided
that
if
I
still
wanted
the
ring,
I'd
just
have
to
order
it
myself.
Roberta
clearly
wasn't
going
to
bother
with
me.
I
went
back
to
their
website
to
look
at
the
ring
again,
and
during
the
time
I
had
been
waiting
for
Roberta
to
call
me
back,
the
ring
had
sold
out,
so
it's
not
even
an
option
now.
I
just
can't
understand
why
a
salesperson
would
blow
someone
off
like
that,
especially
when
we
had
gone
out
of
our
way
to
make
sure
she
got
a
commission.
Granted,
we
weren't
spending
a
fortune,
but
according
to
some
of
the
articles
I've
read,
Zales
has
been
closing
a
lot
of
stores,
so
I
can't
imagine
that
they
can
afford
to
just
throw
away
customers.
Given
what
I've
learned
about
the
company,
it's
probably
just
as
well
that
I
won't
be
doing
business
with
them,
but
it
was
really
disappointing
to
be
treated
so
badly.
We
ended
up
at
Shane
Company,
and
I
can't
recommend
them
highly
enough.
Their
reputation
is
better,
the
quality
of
their
jewelry
is
better,
and
we
were
treated
like
royalty,
in
spite
of
our
limited
budget.
We
did
ultimately
decide
to
spend
a
little
more
than
we
had
planned,
in
order
to
get
exactly
what
we
wanted,
so
Roberta
at
Zales
actually
threw
away
more
of
a
commission
than
she
knew.
