A gorgeous view just up from the Islands in the Sky visitor center. This was super easy to walk up to (just a few hundred feet) and the outlook offered various beautiful viewpoints. I couldn’t help but think how insignificant and small I was looking at the sheer size of the canyon. Plenty of places for nice panoramas and photos. Definitely worth checking out and it doesn’t take much time at all!

An amazing view and great site, super easy to access. Just walk up to the overlook and enjoy how vast this National Park is. Perfect stop on the way to Grand View and White Rim.

Very cool overlook of Shafer Canyon. Just a tiny bit terrifying, particularly with our fearless children running around, thinking one of them would just run right over the edge by accident. (Fortunately, that didn't happen). Being on a peninsula, you can get a little better feel for just how deep the canyon is. Looking on maps here, you wouldn't think the road below is too far away, but the Jeeps you can see look surprisingly tiny from up here.

Shafer Canyon overlook is one of the highpoints of canyonland national park region. This view point overlooks the valley region and it has a breathtaking view from the top. The place is very windy and will recommend caution. Parking space could be little less at times and restrooms are not nearby. So be ready for this

Beautiful place, amazing view. Easy trail, pleasant walk, really rewarding. Actually, it's tempting to go off trail. I'd suggest to resist temptation.

Shafer Canyon Overlook is located in Canyonlands National Park and 0.9 mi (1.4 km) drive past the Island in the Sky visitor center. Great scenic view!! Offers up-close views of steep mesa drop-offs & Shafer Trail Road! One needs to be very careful here!

One of the best viewpoints in the park. Canyonlands is one of a kind.

You can’t visit Moab without a trip up the Shafer SometimesCanyon road. Stunning, terrifying at first, ultimately one of the best adventures ever.

Near to the visitor center, has great view! Short trail (~5 minute) to the farther end of the viewpoint. It was fun seeing windy roads that leads down to the bottom of the canyon. Plenty of parking. Recommend stopping by.

Beautiful place would love to hike more if I ever have more time.

If you have a four wheel drive vehicle, some patience for bumps and about 2-3 hours it is worth a drive down the switchbacks past Thelma & Louise point to Moab.

A short 100-yard hike. Some what of a slope down and back up. Not handicap friendly. View from parking lot great.

loved this site, but it was practically the only place in Island in the Sky where i had a place to park and with a view. If i had enjoyed the other few stops i would have rated it higher, but compared to other parks this park was a flop for me. Keep in mind my physical ability limited my ability to hike.

Beautiful viewpoint. I barely knew about this region before we went here. Only went because we had some free time on our trip. Was well worth it. One of the most beautiful of the several parks that we visited on our USA trip. For us, it was in our top three, more impressive than the Grand Canyon. Would definitely recommend going out of your way to visit. Almost everywhere is beautiful here. Only problem are the outrageous accommodation costs nearby and the long waiting quieres. Hate to see what it is like in the summer.

Beautiful views. One of the stops in this area does have railing, most do not. Highly recommend visiting Canyonlands if in Moab or at Arches.

Nice quick trail, preferably go there on sunrise

Comparing to other overlooks from the island in the sky, the view here is just average. What so special about this place is that you can hike a little bit to the spot where is the neck of the island in the sky. Consider a few feet away from both side of the road are sheer drops of 100 feet, isn't cool?

Amazing view, nice place to check out the trail going down to safer canyon and Potash Road... we have a ton of great photos

To see this road is truly such a cool site. I always seen it in pictures here and there and wish I had an opportunity to actually go down but because of the winding road and being super tight, it does take time but to still see it on the side of the canyon again just cool.

Located within Canyonlands national park, this overlook is a MUST SEE. My pictures don't begin to do it justice. The absolute coolest part of it all is the view of the Shafer Trail, a rugged (and treacherous) road that we were not adventurous enough to traverse. We spent a good chunk of time simply watching the tiny vehicles make their way up the STEEP road.
