This place has amazing architecture, history and art and is a must for any art lover visiting the Mexico City. Located in the heart of the city, the visit can be combined with a visit of the Museo del Templo Mayor, the Cathedral orante if the amazing restaurants in the area. Beautiful colonial architecture combined with impressive mural by Orozco. Currently the exhibition by Sergio Hernandez makes it all even more impressive.

One of the most beautiful buildings in the Centro Historico. Originally a high school, this museum has dozens of murals from Rivera and other famous Mexican artists from the 1920s to the 1940s. Exhibitions change all the time but they are usually about great topics.

What a gem 💎 I stumbled across this building, while walking around the city center. This was one of the first schools founded in CDMX by Loyola’s (Spanish) priests back in 1537. The Murals inside are stunning. This building also serves as a place for exhibitions.

(Translated by Google) The murals in this enclosure are very relevant to the history of Mexico, its temporary exhibitions are interesting and in general the treatment is cordial. It has spacious and airy spaces, it is very nice to go with the family, although it can get quite crowded in the weekend afternoons (Original) Los murales de este recinto son muy relevantes para la historia de México, sus exposiciones temporales son interesantes y en general el trato es cordial. Most of the Salas were closed, including the Diego Rivera one. The only two things viewable were several Jose Orozco murals on the walls of the stairwells and hallways outside, and the temporary exhibition on the first floor. The temporary exhibition by Sergio Hernandez was mostly ugly contorted bodies of humans suffering in some hellish environment with the exception of a few whale paintings and tree paintings and the stereotypical modern art addition of a plain gold colored "work" or black background with white spots. I still don't know why those last two belong in a museum. The building is nice to see, and the museum is not crowded at all on a weekday, but it would be much better if the rooms were all open rather than all closed.

It's an amazing museum, highly recommended. It exhibits and highlights many great mural artwork from Orozco (masterpieces in the second floor), Siqueiro and Rivera. It's the place where Friday Kahlo and Diego Rivera met for the first time. It is an absolute must do while in Mexico City. Entry is free on Tuesday. It is recommended to go with a tour though to better understand the murals.

A must see museum set in an 18th century former Jesuit school for the sons of wealthy Mexicans. The interior contains murals by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and Fernando Leal. The many galleries inside its walls showcase exhibitions by Mexican artists, currently the glorious and thought provoking work of Sergio Hernandez, whose iconography reflects his Indigenous heritage, and that of his native region of Oaxaca, including the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures of Mesoamerica. In his work, you’ll find everything from violent practices of human sacrifice to images of a solitary whale. Entry fee is 50p, very worth it.

This place is very close to the zócalo, it's beautiful with striking murals from the most famous muralists in Mexico. The building Idris is full of history, one very related to the Mexican academia, there's one room in particular that it shows all the ceremony needed when future doctors (PhD) presented their final exam.

Rivera's first mural is here and I loved the other works by Siquieros and others. Definitely worth the trip especially since the presidential palace is closed.

Couldn't visit Rivera's first mural, amphitheatre not possible to enter when visiting the museum. What is the point of visiting then?

This is perhaps one the most emblematic buildings in the historical downtown of Mexico City. It was funded by the jesuits to bring education to the viceroyalty (Colonial Mexico), as the jesuit society gained economic momentum during this time the building we know today began to take shape. With the exile of the jesuits by King Charles III, the building served several purposes such as the french/american troop quarters during war time. By the time Juarez was president and his secular reforms on education the building housed the newly created "national high school" with a school curriculum based on positivism. It then formed part of the National University, now the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Currently a museum as of 1992 after restoration since it was closed to the public by the '80s.

This was close to our accomodation, so we went an hour before closing time (according to their website) to see the famos mural "Creacion" by Diego Rivera. At the entrance, we were told they close half an hour earlier. The murals on the ground floor did not have any signs (name, artist). All the rooms on the ground floor were closed (looking through some windows, they might be conference rooms). On the upper floor some could be opened, which we only realised after we saw someone come out - no signs or anything. After visiting all three floors without seeing the "Creacion", we asked where to find it and were told it's in the amphitheatre on the ground floor, but closed today. The other murals are great as well, but still the museum itself is not too well organised I would say, and if you want to see a Diego Rivera Mural, I suggest you go to the Palacio Nacional.

December 2021. The museum is now open Thursday through Sunday. If your object in going is to see Rivera's 1st mural, La Creación, you should know that the space it resides in is currently unavailable for viewing. Its reopening date is indefinite, according to the young man handling tickets. Most of the salons in the beautiful building are closed and renovation work is going on in one of the patios. Still, the murals are visible and well marked, and there is an extensive and well documented (in Spanish) photography exhibit on the top floor (up until February I think- check the Museum website), with photos by Mexican and International photographers that Francisco Toledo collected over the years. There is also some information on the roots of Toledo's political activism over the years; and segments of a documentary film. It's an impressive show. Museum signage is pretty weak so one must ask where the entry door to the start of the exhibit salons is as the door was closed when we arrived. Entry into the exhibit space is limited to 20 people at a time but that didn't seem to be a problem on a weekday afternoon.
