Exquisite experience. This place in itself is a greater highlight of Kanazawa than all the wonderful landmarks in town. I distinctly felt that eating at HUNI was alone worth the trip from Tokyo. Thank you chef for making our honeymoon so special.

HUNI was an absolute gem of our trip in Kanazawa. We experienced real Japanese hospitality from Taku - the owner and chef of HUNI. Menu is a mix of Japanese and Western cuisines. We tried tuna, duck, fried chicken, pasta and some Japanese sake 🎌 Food was fresh, flavourful and creatively served. All in all, it was an inspiring experience and we’re happy to be back.

We had an amazing dining experience at Huni. Every dish was simple but packed with flavour and we didn’t want to stop ordering! The chef is friendly and extremely talented and has created a very warm, welcoming space. We had the pleasure of chatting with a local sitting next to us at the bar, who showed us the chef’s wood carvings and truely made our night. We would recommend this as a must if you’re visiting Kanazawa.

It has been many years since I have experienced such a great chef 👨‍🍳 in such a nice atmosphere with delicious food. Michelin Star quality, the chef only welcomes very few guests per evening so be sure to make a reservation. If you manage to get one, enjoy a food explosion artistically set up with a variety of overwhelming taste experiences, cooked right in front of you. Has vegetarian options available on request and can only state again: fresh, delicious and warmly welcoming. Also speaks perfect English!

I've had a lot of chicken in my time. Let me just say, this guy can cook a chicken. We went in just to get a drink and a little food and ended up spending a lot of time. Everything we ordered was good. The chicken dishes were particularly tasty. He also had a knack for italian. The sake list is fun and varied. The host/chef is extremely friendly and cool, his english is quite good. The sculpture upstairs is made by the chef and is quite beautiful. We had a great time and it totally defied our expectations. Easily a 5 star experience.

I thought I had done a review for this but can’t find it and I want to make sure that I get one posted for this restaurant. HUNI was the best dining experience I’ve had in Kenasawa. The atmosphere was simply wonderful. The food was fantastic as were the drinks. Enjoyed that leisurely atmosphere, that led to a wonderful dinner. If you go, make sure to visit upstairs, Buddha collection.

An absolute highlight of our trip not just to Kanazawa but to Japan. My husband and I had the best 3 hours here, eating the most amazing food, drinking sake and plum wine, and chatting with the lovely owner and one of the waitresses. Could not recommend more - I would include Kanazawa in future trips to Japan purely to go back here.

Wonderful food and a quiet, cozy atmosphere. The chef spoke good English and created some of the best food I’ve every eaten in Japan. Portion sizes are modest, so if you are looking for a banquet you may be in the wrong place, but quality is 11 / 10. Would definitely recommend!!

Delicious food, friendly owner (who is also an amazing artist displaying his art upstairs!), great drinks, and very chill, peaceful atmosphere. As others have pointed out, the fried chicken is marvelously tender and juicy. I also really enjoyed the tuna tartare (?) with egg.

I would tell people to go to Kanazawa just to go here. The limited seating makes it very intimate. Chef and bar tender are very personable great energy. Then there’s the food… tuna tartar was very special and the rest was exceptional. Also worked our way through their sake menu which was a fun experience. Make sure you make a reservation, you won’t be disappointed.

Utterly wonderful experience tonight. Delicious food and drink and great conversation. It's only been our first day in Kanazawa, but we're sure this will make it to the top of our favourite dining experiences. Thank you so much!

Celebrated our Valentine's day here. The food, ambiance and the chef made it memorable. The place is unlike any other restaurants I've been to, it also has a museum at the top which you can visit freely. Food and drinks were top notch! And the chef is very warm and welcoming. I hope I could visit Kanazawa again and come back to dine here.

This was our last meal of our 3 weeks in Japan and one of the best 2. The restaurant was quiet that night so we had a great chat to the chef and a fabulous meal. It was a little different to other meals as a leaning towards Italian . The atmosphere was lovely right on the river and the music playlist we really enjoyed. Highly recommend a visit

Some of the best food for an extremely reasonable price. Amazing view and nice atmosphere. The Buddhist museum above was also great to see. The people were also really lovely. Just an amazing experience overall.

Amazing Place, amazing athmosphere and the food is prepared right in front of you. The owner is super friendly and, as a bonus, there is a gallery with amazing art made by him in the first floor. Definitely recommended!

We had a perfect evening at HUNI. The staff was very friendly and explained the local dishes and drinks in English to us. It’s worth the money 😉

If you get to Kanazawa there are four things to do: Omicho fish market, the castle, kenrokuen garden, and Huni. I will literally travel to this city just for this amazing restaurant and experience. Taku-san is an incredible chef and a master woodworker. There's an exhibit on the second floor. Sort of neo japanese cuisine, he infuses new styles into old traditions like his pressed sushi. Omekase all the way, he knows what's best. The host, Raph, also makes the experience quite memorable, with his stories about journeys across the globe and always refreshing nihonshu even when you've only taken a sip. Sake ninja! Hands down my favorite izakaya style restaurant in Japan. This is my first google review ever because I felt the need to spread the love. 17 stars.

We had the best evening here at HUNI! The food is great and the drinks are absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is very private, only a few tables and you can watch the Chef cooking.

The best food we had in Japan. In a cool and relaxed atmosphere. The perfect seasoning make the dishes and high quality ingredients stand out. They also have good drinks. A mix of locals and tourists visit this place.

A cozy and comfortable restaurant with a fantastic view. The food was expertly prepared by the chef while we sat at the bar. After having the salmon sushi we had to order more as it was that good! Well worth a visit. Very reasonable price for the quality food.

Chef Takuo-san is a masterful chef (and artist!). All the dishes were fantastic, especially the mushroom and shiso leaf pasta, the chicken meatballs, and the tofu sesame salad. This was during our fourth visit to Japan. We've tried everything from quaint traditional food to high-end Michelin-starred spots and HINO is now one of our favorite meals in Japan. They are incredibly welcoming and provide impeccable service and drink recommendations.

This restaurant was the highlight of our stay in Kanazawa. The chef/owner of business has created a perfect combination of European cuisine with a Japanese twist in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. He also is an artist and you can view his creation in the gallery upstairs. If I ever visit Kanazawa again, I will definitely make the effort to visit this place.

Great place! Modern dining bar and art gallery, with a broad selection of Sake and spirits. Quite different from other places in Kanazawa. Super friendly staff. A must go.

This restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. We ordered the omakasa course—chef’s choice—and three of the six dishes were on point: the opening course of sashimi and cheese, the chicken patty soup, and the sweet and sour chicken—please forgive my forgetfulness but I can not remember the Japanese names. The other dishes were good, just not great. Now, the highlight of the meal was the owner and the general ambiance of the restaurant. He might be the most interesting human in the universe and the whole vibe is two thumbs up. Love this place!!
