Driving from Chennai to Mahabalipuram on a hot summer's day to have a seafood lunch is not at all the cool thing to do! The sweltering heat gets to you and it's only the thought of the delicious meal ahead that keeps you going. We were heading to Moonrakers Restaurant which is famous for its fresh seafood delicacies. Our first glimpse of the restaurant did not impress. Located in the middle of a crowded street, the place was dusty and none too clean. The server offered us the menu and my friend immediately asked for the Golden Fried Calamari with the Garlic Butter Dip. In the meantime we were shown a selection of fish and crustaceans from which we could select our preferences for the meal. We opted for the Lobster Butter Garlic and Pomfret Tawa Fry and a plate of Egg Fried Rice. The Calamari came heaped on a large plate and was quite delicious. Unfortunately the garlic in the dip was overcooked and rendered it tasteless. The Lobster was quite rubbery and flavourless and was drenched in the same overcooked garlic sauce. The Pomfret Tawa Fry looked quite impressive but did not live up to expectations. The server insisted that it was white pomfret though it was clearly black pomfret. It was dry and hard and smothered in a vinegary sauce with the overwhelming flavours of ginger and garlic. The Egg Fried Rice was average and would definitely have got a thumbs down from Uncle Roger. All in all a disappointing, overpriced meal and not worth the trip!

Pros 1. Style of the hotel looks good and attractive Foreigners also do come here. 2. Person receiving at entrance is warm welcoming. 3. Quickest serving after order is here only. 4. Both veg and non veg available. 5. Price is average. We were 5 and costed us 2600. Cons 1. Food taste expectation should be good not more than that.

No wonder this place is old and has made its name and fame. The food is awesome. But their behavior is very bad, least interest given to customers. There is another branch on out skirts will be visiting that place. This place has no parking. But the feel to visit such a heritage hotel is good. Hope they work on their service.

The taste of the fish is nice but fried rice is tasty but cool, the services fried rice is so cool. All the other food is yummy.. Sea food lovers will love the food present here...

Drove till mahabs to visit the place. The food here was amazing and the ambience is not to the level I had expected. Their calamari fry is a must try. Their prawns were also nice. We got their pepper chicken and it was okay. The prices are a tad bit too high. If you're looking for a seafood restaurant around mahabs, do try out Moonrakers.

We were a group of 25 odd people. Come here to celebrate the last day of our residency sessions. I liked the old vibe of this place . I personally like the old places . As they have their own journey and history. Sea food is delicious. Fir me it was an experience as here in North India don't get these kind of restaurant.

This place is pretty old and while it isn't the classiest, the food speaks for itself. Loved our seafood experience here. The food is prepared freshly and you can choose from the fresh catch of the day and the style you want it cooked in They also serve 🍺.

Nice place for sea food lover's. It's very close to Mamallapuram Beach and on a little cungusted street but you get a place to park your vehicle near restaurant. Loved to eat variety of fresh fishes here.

One of the oldest and finest restaurants in Mahabalipuram. Best place to grab a taste of the local seafood with the authentic taste. Continental and chinese are also available. But we had the whole fish with masala and Calamari rings with rice. Their fresh juices was really refreshing after a day out in the sun. Not that expensive. There are other restaurants with similar names nearby, although I was told by my brother who lives nearby that this was the original. They also serve beer. You also get to choose the live crab before preparation

We were recommended to dine at this restaurant by a local artisan. And I’m so glad we got a chance to dine here . The food is outstandingly delicious and mouthwatering The fish curry and king prawns were to die for 🤩 The best I’ve ever had . The seafood was not only fresh but so full of deliciousness and every dish had isn’t unique flavours and no two dishes tasted the same . Beats all five star standards 👍🏻 . Thank you chef . Truly an Underrated place. Their Tawa Prawn tastes so good that Moonwalkers has become a regular spot for me. Goes along well with Chapati and Porata.

Absolutely delighted by the wonderful dining experience! The fish fry was incredibly flavorful, and the fish curry was a delightful complement. The soothing beer worked perfectly with the spicy dishes. Highly recommended! Just be mindful of other places nearby with similar names.

Best seafood. 👌 Prawn pepper fry, Calamari, Live fish order. Masala is also good. Fried rice was average but because of the seafood taste it can be ignored. They can work on the ambiance little bit.

Must try this place when you go to Mahabalipuram! The Kadai Calamari is just the best. Great to go with friends and family with its Laid back seaside atmosphere. You can also try their fresh fish that they catch every day with their own boat.

Good and famous place for the seafood. This is a favorite restaurant for many foreign people. Food are good and taste. Sea fish, crab,lobster, shrimp and calamari are sea fishes are available and fresh We can choose fish and then ask them to cook options available. 1st floor good natural ambience.

Heard a lot about this place and decided to try when we were visiting Chennai. The atmosphere is decent but the staff are excellent just like the food. Had a great time with friends. P.S - there are two buildings, both are the same restaurant, just expanded to accommodate more people.

Their masala is still very delicious. Lobster was great and also the fried calamari. It was cooked to perfection and it wasn't rubbery at all. Fried rice was average. Mixed sea food soup was worth it!!

Been here for a few times.. Food will be fine.. specially, seafood.. Cost is little high when compared to restaurants inside town.. Ambience will be ok.. but, not with the sea view.. Parking they have, few buildings away..

A landmark restaurant in mahabalipuram. Known for their fresh sea food. They display their catch from the sea before cooking. Reasonably priced. All their starters tasted well. Especially their prawns masala.

Was a regular prior to 7-8 years. Have been hearing negative reports on this place and hesitantly went for dinner. Turns out taste is same and was pleasant.

We tried pomfret and pepper prawns with fried rice. The fish was good and fresh and the prawns tasted okay. The place is congested for a family of 5 to sit inside. AC is on demand. They have valet parking facilities.
