The beach is great, clear waters, excellent atmosphere and overall a great vibe. However, the number of people you'd find on a weekend is insane. They will flock to the beaches and you can't really enjoy a private moment with the beach by yourself. Otherwise it was decently clean and there were cops to ensure no accidents happen.

This place is approximately 50 km from Chennai. It is the cleanest beach compared to all the beaches in Chennai. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset here. Transportation from Chennai: Personal vehicle. You can also rent a scooter in Chennai, and there are buses available from Chennai. This beach has rocks, and watching the sea water hit the rocks is an awesome sight. The road from Chennai to here is simply amazing. You can also enjoy sea views along the way. No ticket required. Paid parking is available here.

Absolutely filthy beach. Sand littered with plastic, rubbish and a zillion sandals. Head to fisherman's beach the other side of shore temple. Much nicer and cleaner with several restaurants.

Want to enjoy the beach atmosphere but can’t get to the west coast of India? Mamallapuram is perhaps the most popular beach on India's east coast. It has UNESCO World Heritage listed monuments and a thriving backpacker scene but is frequented by tourists who go to relax at the resorts there as well. The town was a major 7th century seaport during the reign of the Pallava dynasty and is now an interesting open-air gallery of the dynasty's architecture. It's also known as Mahabalipuram (town of Mahabali), after mythical King Mahabali who was vanquished by Lord Vishnu. However, the Tamil Nadu government has officially called it Mamallapuram (town of Mamalla) in honor of the renowned Pallava ruler Narasimha I, who had developed the town as a seaport and trading center. He had the title of Mamalla, meaning "great fighter".

Public beach for a weekend getaway. Water is bit dirty due to the crowd. They are collecting 75rs per car but there is no proper maintainence. Beach sand is filled with rubbish.

Must-visit destination for anyone travelling to the area. The beach offers a breathtaking view of the Bay of Bengal, and is a perfect spot for relaxing and soaking up the sun. The beach is also great for taking long walks and watching the beautiful sunrise and sunset. Overall, Mahabalipuram Beach is a beautiful and peaceful place that should not be missed on your trip to the area.

Great place if you move further away from the access. The access is full of shops and eateries. The entry and some more area is full of garbage. Go further away to enjoy a bit of cleaner sands.
