The lake is 100 hectares in size, has a rectangular shape, and is surrounded by a footpath and a road for vehicles. In the evening, the sunset view is amazing. Over time, the area has not been kept up properly; there are several missing tiles from the sidewalks, many nightlights are not functioning, and the lake's water could be cleaned. Both manual and motor types of boats are available for boating. When you enter the boating area, safety measures are conducted, and a life jacket is available for use while boating. Overall, it is a great site to visit for a peaceful and magnificent lake view that is surrounded by a large number of street food vendors.

The Rankala Lake is a very famous tourist attraction for people from all over the world. The lake covers an area of as large as 107 hectares and marked by the natural beauty and peaceful environment. Apart from the inherent natural beauty and the regal/ royal beauty of Shalini Palace and The Padma Raje Garden, The Lake also offers a host of activities like horse riding, and boating to keep you entertained in the cool evening. Don't Forget to taste Mouthwatering, Delicious Street Food from the vendors around lake! It's Fresh, Tasty and Reasonably Priced!

Kolahapur...one of the best place to visit. Greenery every where, u can still feel cold during morning time in the month of May where rest of India is burning. The lake view is mesmerizing...in morning time u feel peace and calm ness sitting beside the lake.... During evening this place is over crowed...lots of fastfood joints opens during that time. Boating and other water sports activities starts in the evening. The Royal Palace of Kolahapur is also situation besides this lake. Need some cleaning around this place...which can turn this place to a aswom place.

A full crowd in the evening hours. walking park is there and local eat outs are there. No entry fee. Boating options are available. You can have some quality time with family members to do boating, eating, roaming the park..etc.

We went for a morning walk here. The lake was clean this time and beautiful walk along the lake. There is a nice walking track after you cross Shalini palace to the other side. The main touristy area has small play areas for kids and lot of food stalls like a choupaty in the evening.

What a place this was, nature at its best. The infrastructure which was built in the olden times is simply commendable. I was at Rankala in the morning around 7am, completely foggy- for a moment I thought I was abroad after clicking some insane pics. A very very very beautiful place to visit.

Of all the places of interest in Kolhapur, Rankala is perhaps the most popular. It is a place where people throng in the evening for a stroll. It is sometimes referred to as the mackbay or Marine Drive of Kolhapur. Rankala is a lake at the south western end of the city. It has a radius of 2 to 3 miles and depth of 35 ft. The road on the city side is in good condition and is the most frequented. It is really a bund which was built to increase the capacity of the lake. The water is let through a sluice gate in the bund. On the northern bank of the lake stands the beautiful Shalini Palace lending additional charm to the lake. On the south-eastern side of the lake there is the Padma Raje Garden, where one can sit and relax. The lake is named after the god Rank Bhairav, who is said to have been a great favourite with Mahalakshmi and to have a gold temple now hidden under the water of the lake. The lake now receives water from two streams in the north and has also a waste weir outlet in the north.

Very beautiful lake in the middle of the city. One should be here in the evening before the sunset. Many birds/migratory ducks come to the lake. The entire lake gets crowded with too many eating joints surrounding the lake. Wkends gets too crowded and often it’s difficult to get a transport back from the late. But worth the visit.

Rankala Lake is on the western side of Ambabai temple , it is a popular evening spot and recreation centre. This lake was constructed by Maharaja Shri Shahu Chhatrapati. The Lake is surrounded by Chaupati and other gardens. We took Auto from the temple and reached it in 10 mins. We were lucky to see the sunset here and not to be missed. ONe of the happening places in Kolhapur and with a decent crowd. Lots of Kid activities adjacent to the lake. Must visit, when in Kolhapur.

You get Mumbai vibes here. You must visit in the evening if you are planning to go to kolhapur. Here there are a lot of stalls where you can enjoy tea with some amazing views of the lake. Parking has to be done by the roadside, with no entry fee. Just sit , relax, and enjoy the sunset view.

Great place to spend peaceful time. Great lake view and cool Breeze. Must try the kolhapuri bhel and other chat options. I tried a special bhel which was really good. You can get all types of food options such as Chinese, chat, faludas , milk shakes, tandoors , pav bhaji and many more. I also tried faluda which was decent in taste. I sat there for some time as it was really calm . Try to visit during odd hours you may find less crowds. Especially during weekdays it's really less crowded so you can easily find some place for yourself and spend some peaceful time. You can either read a book, eat something from there or just stare at continuously moving waves of the Lake. I visited during August last week when it's not too rainy nor too cloudy . I also tried the boat ride which was worth spending for sure. I took dolphin ride for 2 people.

Wow. Like it was so beautiful. Boating experience was very good . You can do boating at a low cost as like 50rs per person for half a hour. Even you will get all types of street food too. Great taste i recommend to try pav bhaji and spring potato. Like is safe as it has wall .

The lake was built by “Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’ - King of Kolhapur and is a combination of Rajghat and Maraghat. It sprawls over an area of 107 hectares and the views that it extends are just beyond one’s imagination. The lake has an age-old history from old times and the locals believe that it is not a natural lake but was built by the Maharaj. If you are looking for a place where you can relax and soothe your soul then this is just the right spot for you.

A beautiful location for a casual evening stroll with loads of eateries serving Indian fast food (pani puri, bhel, pattice, etc.). A must visit spot if you have a evening at kolhapur. Advice: prefer auto rickshaw 🛺 instead of car 🚗

People go for morning jog. There is a kids play area. The water was clear when I visited. You can see many ducks and birds around the lake. You can go for an evening stroll. Fresh air... Beautiful scenery... This place always amazes me... If you visit Kolhapur Rankala lake should be in your must visit list.

At a distance of 2 km from Sri Mahalakshmi Ambabai Temple, and 4 km from Kolhapur Railway Station, Rankala Lake is a picturesque lake in Kolhapur. The Rankala Lake was constructed by late Maharajah, Shri Shahu Chhatrapati. The lake has a circumference of 4.5 miles and a depth of 35 ft. The water of the lake is used mainly for irrigation, and the water is let through a sluice gate in the bound. This gate was operated from a minor type of beautiful structure called 'Rankala Tower'. Near the tower is the Rajghat, a flight of board steps leading to the water. On the northern bank of the lake stands the regal Shalini Palace and on the eastern side & slightly in the lake stands the 'Sandhya-Math'. It is a structure of stone columns with a stone slab forming a big hall. The lake is surrounded by chowpati and other gardens. In the recent past, Kolhapur Municipal corporation has built 'Padpath Udyan' for a lakeside walk. Besides, the lake also offers a host of activities to keep tourists entertained. Tourists can enjoy Horse riding and boating here. There are various food stalls along the lake which serve delicious snacks at reasonable prices. The banks of the lake are well-maintained with seating arrangements and picturesque gardens. It is a popular picnic spot and recreation center for the people of Kolhapur.

The beautiful Rankala lake is named after the temple of 'Rankbhairav'- an incarnation of lord Shiva. A quarry was formed into the natural lake after an earthquake in 8th / 9th century AD. A well maintained garden & the beautiful Shalini palace along the lake side attracts every visitor to this place ....

It is believed to be linked directly to a well in Panhala Fort which Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is believed to have crossed. Nowadays it is a famous spot for residents of Kolhapur to spend the weekends. It lies in Kolhapur. In recent past, Kolhapur Municipal corporation has built "Padpath Udyan" for a lakeside walk. This lake was constructed by Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur. It is located on the western side of Ambabai Mandir(Mahalaksmi Temple) kolhapur. This wide and spacious lake is so called because at its centre lies the temple of Rankabhairav.
