The first place where the ferry to Cumberland Island will take you. Full facilities including a bathroom and a shower. Beautiful trails that will take backpackers and bicyclists east to the beach and north to the wilderness.

We took are bikes we camped at Stafford Camp site #3 a short walk to the ocean. Great shell hunting on low tide. We biked to Wilow Pond Trail hiked the 2 miles to the ocean. There was not anyone else on the beach. Even if there was. The beach is so big and with low tide you can walk out 1/4 mile to the water. The staff and volunteers plus the boating crew were super nice and helpful. We saw plenty of wild life armadillo, horses, deer, turkey, fish, wild boar a lot of birds ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ˜‰ A great place to go.

So I have been to Cumberland Island more times than I remember over the years, but this time in particular is one of the best memories I have. The picture I shared is from February 2007, right after I had gotten my Eagle Scout. My scout troop was going down to Cumberland Island and it was going to be my last trip I took with them before leaving for the Army in June. The man in the picture with me is my grandpa, and he decided to go with us on this trip. He had never been on a trip before but because he knew that this was an important one for me he decided to step out of his comfort zone and go. We ended up having a great time, and for the rest of his life we talked about that trip, specifically what happened one of the nights. We had been asleep in the tent for a while when a raccoon decided to rub up against the side of the tent which happened to be right where my grandpas leg was. We started laughing and couldnโ€™t stop, and it went on to the point that some of the other leaders on the trip started asking if everything was okay and once they heard what happened they started laughing also which started a cycle of all of us cracking up at each other. This picture was taken the next morning as we got ready to get back onto the ferry at Sea Camp Dock to come home. The picture isnโ€™t the best quality and the glass is covered in dust, but thatโ€™s how I found it and I wanted to share it. We lost my grandpa April 15 2023. The last thing he talked to me about before he passed away was the story I just shared. I was sitting by his hospital bed and we laughed for probably 10 minutes about that story, the next day he was unresponsive and passed away the following morning. I found this picture Saturday June 10 2023 when I was helping my mom clean out his house. Cumberland Island National Seashore, I have so many great memories from camping there, but this one is my favorite. Thank you for having a great place for me to be able to take my family and remember my grandpa. I donโ€™t get to go as much as I would like anymore, but it always feels like home when I step onto the sand at Sea Camp Dock.

Always love coming here. This particular dock has restrooms, a water-filling station and an air conditioned Ranger's station where you can stamp your park passport. This trip we saw the horses, manatees and lots of horseshoe crabs. Please be careful during the summer, saw lots of people with young children and no water or sun protection. The real-feel was up to 107ยฐF today. Have fun and stay safe โœŒ๏ธ

Very basic people/ bicycles only (no cars) FERRY from St Marys to Cumberland Island. Must buy 2 tickets each. Building to register/ sign in is not well marked/ lacks signage. Information in e- mail said register before 8 or your (paid) seats may be given away. They opened at 8:07. Told us to park in the dirt lot about a block away to keep from getting towed, but could not provide an address or suitable directions. Note: Entering National Park - additional $15 pp unless you have pass Boat is very basic - transportation ONLY Restrooms not available Windows were very dirty- could barely see out If you are able to climb to top, at least you can see. Frequent dolphin sightings NO NARRATION- would have been nice to have information about the beautiful landscape and area. Did not even get the basic safety info on the way out

Comfie shoes are a must. Bring lots of water or refillable water bottles. We saw so much wildlife at the ruins: deer, turkey, tons of horses and a gator at the duck pond. Wish they had bike rentals on the island ;)

This dock is closest to the beach, itโ€™s about a mile to get to the other side of the island from here and itโ€™s a straight shot. There are restrooms, a shower/changing area, and a water station about 3/4 of the way to the beach if you donโ€™t want to hike in your bathing suit.

I went to Cumberland Island for a day trip with the family and had a great time. The park rangers there were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. There's a lot of history on the island, and it's a great chance to walk around and explore. The trees are great for climbing (kids and adults!) and there are a lot of campsites if you want to camp there for a weekend (which I plan on doing next time). The ferry there is punctual and easy to board. Just make sure you bring some food and drinks when you go. There are many bathrooms around, but no food/drink places. Also, bring something to keep your trash in. The island is a "pack out what you bring in" place. Overall, a great place to bring the family.

The ferry to Cumberland Island is great! The ranger is very informative before you get on the ferry and very helpful once you arrive. Itโ€™s a 45 minutes trip each way and one fee covered round trip. You can choose to sit inside the ferry or on top. Make sure you are on time as the ferry leaves promptly at the designated times.
