I was unsure if I should give 2 or 3 stars. I decided for only two as this location pretends to have a high standard but it's only somewhat mediocre. The selection of Batik is pretty well, but the sizes for Bule are limited. The one slightly too large is too pricey for the quality. What confused me most is the fact 4-5 employees are used for greeting, but none of them is able to close the door. The selection of dresses is somewhat frustrating. Most of the clothing is far away from fitting to the body of a woman and more shaped like a potato bag. It seems to be a common trend in Indonesia as I've lately seen several women wearing this kind of style. I don't mind it being a thing now, but why getting rid of the entire section of "regular" Batik dresses? What I found the most annoying is the "Batik" course (50k) which is only a basic Malam & Canting Course and doesn't contain any Batik. To be fair: The two ladies who teach the short course are professional. It was a pleasure to work with them and see how they do their job. Even more it's frustrating how they are treated. Sitting in front of the store, next to that dirty main road. These kind of workers should be more appreciated. Two stars for that is justified. Sure, one might ask: What do you expect from a 1h-50k "Batik" course. Answer: No tipu tipu in advertising

About 10 years ago, we had this trip to visit Solo to learn about the traditional art of Indonesian Batik and this was where the locals recommended to us. It is really an eye opening experience that I get to see the beauty of batik and also see the tedious process of human labor and time consuming patience as well as artistry and creativity. This place is in Central Java and the pace is slower than other parts of Java. People are extremely nice and polite, soft spoken and well mannered. I really like this place. Batik is originated from Javanese and Central Java is where the majority of Javanese reside. The place has tons of batik shops, big or small, expensive or cheap. And everyone can explain to you the meaning of the motif they have on the batik. This is really a cultural gene that nowhere else in Indonesia can do this. We have visited many batik shops like this one. But somehow, this one has its own workshop and old ladies open to the public to see, to learn and to experience that gives us a whole new level of learning. Batik is time consuming and Indonesians put their heart and spirit in it. Each time I put on a batik, I feel the person is with me and I have to behave just like the soft spoken lady or man to be better and more polite. The motif also means and reminds us what this is about on daily basis. Batik is amazing and Solo is where the president is from. I just love Central Java.

I like Omah Batik Laweyan Solo. So many options for Batiks for textiles, clothing, scarves, and smaller souvenirs. In a wide range of price. From the inexpensive to medium to the high-end price for their high-end product on the other floor. And you can also learn a little bit about batik and the city of Solo there. With friendly staff that ready to assist you.
