(Translated by Google) The excavations carried out in 1959—1962 on the Tirighina height from Bărboși, near Galați, near the outflow of the Siret into the Danube, brought to light a Roman castellum, probably built on the site of a Dacian fortress, fortified with an earth wave. The archeological complex from Tirighina-Bărboși covers about 10 hectares and includes vestiges of a Roman camp, an earthen castellum, two Roman necropolises, including a mound, three amphora deposits, the civil settlement in the Siret plain and the remains of Roman settlement in the western area of the Danube district of Galaţi. Archaeologist Vasile Pârvan states that coins dating from the period of the Roman emperors Trajan, Antoninus Pius and Philip the Arab were discovered on the territory of the fortification. The fortification at the confluence of the Siret and the Danube was abandoned at the end of the third century. Over time, elements of its masonry were used to erect other buildings in the city of Galati, some being used even in the citadel of Brăila. When, between 1643-1647, during the reign of Vasile Lupu, the Precista Church was built, dedicated to the Assumption, the oldest historical monument in the city of Galați, solid stone and brick from the Roman camp from Tirighina - Bărboși were used. Currently, on the promontory from Tirighina - Barboși, only the south-eastern corner of the Roman camp can be seen on the surface of the ground, as well as the remains of the foundations on the north and west sides.

The Austrians were able to transform wind farms into tourist attractions of great interest. We have been striving for decades to highlight a unique historical objective with immense potential. Now, after the Tirighina Castle has been painstakingly recovered from the trash, I hope that the momentum will be maintained to see this project through to the end. Success!

On the Tirighina hill, located on the territory of the Barboși neighborhood of Galați, about one kilometer from the Siret's discharge into the Danube, important ancient vestiges belonging to the Geto-Dacians and then to the Roman era were discovered (the Geto-Dacian Fortification the 1st century BC - 1st century AD and The Roman fort, abandoned at the end of the 3rd century). The ancient name of the fortress at Tirighina is not known. Over time, it was identified with "Caput Bovis", "Dinogetia", "Polonda" or "Turris".

Surprisingly, today, 17-03-2022, work is being done with machinery right inside the archaeological site, drilling is being done in the ground

🫤 Poorly mantained. The tiles covering the walkways are broken, the stairs are in a poor condition. The grass and other greenery are not in top condition. The metal benches are in desperate need for some paint. Children are racing some go carts without looking where they're going.
