Wild and the Sage

Cafe

👍👍 It's one of a kind bookstore in Galle with lovely staff. Loved the ambience, the concept and the overall creativity in the space. A great selection of books. We couldn't try the food as we went right after the breakfast but tried some drinks and their affogato which was perfect when you sit outdoors... What a gem! No matter the country, there is always something special about the combination of books, cake and coffee! Thank you for opening! 😊 The best carrot cake ever. Lovely staff. Great music. So many popular books-we were sad we didn’t have enough space to take home more things at the end of our stay in Sri Lanka.

Every time I passed this place I thought it would be the best place for a café. Then the old shop was replace by this new amazing Book Store & Café with super yummy food, coffee and the best selection of books. And the vibe is really nice from music to the hospitality. Would recommend the place for anyone.

A must visit in Unawatuna. I haven't come across anywhere like it during my 7 weeks in SL. Gorgeous interior, a lovely atmosphere, good food and great coffee. The perfect spot to chill, read or work.

Such a cute find, I am so glad I went inside. I didnt eat as I had already had breakfast so opted for a chai latte which was a homemade spice and was delicious - also loved the ceramic mug it was served in. The prices seemed to be a little more on the pricey side but such a beautiful building and the ambiance created with it being a book store is just bliss! Also the cakes looked so gooood, highly recommend trying them because i regret not ;)

Good place. Air condition inside! A lot of different good books. Design is really nice and beautiful. Food was tasty but portion is a bit small. You need to order 2 items on order to be well-fed. Prices is bit higher than around. The best coffee!

Toast with avocado was yummy, shakshuka was tasty too(but be carefull - it was "little spicy", of the word of staff, but it was on the verge of my limit), but I loved it. Also included fast and excellent service, and relaxing atmosphere.

In a world where the senses are bombarded by the cacophony of existence, there exists a sanctuary of serenity and delight, a refuge for the weary soul and the curious mind. Behold, Wild and the Sage – a harmonious fusion of cafe and bookstore, where the nourishment of the body and the intellect converge in an exquisite symphony of flavor and knowledge. Within this wondrous haven, I found solace in the divine taste of vegan desserts – a chocolate cake that whispered sweet nothings to my taste buds, and brownies that conjured images of a utopian paradise. The staff, an embodiment of warmth and kindness, enveloped me in an atmosphere of camaraderie, their presence a balm to the weary traveler's spirit. But it is in the vast ocean of literature that Wild and the Sage truly transcends the boundaries of the mundane. The shelves, teeming with tomes both ancient and contemporary, beckon to the ardent reader, inviting them to embark on a voyage of discovery and enlightenment. And so, to all you weary wanderers, seekers of solace, and connoisseurs of the written word, I implore you to venture into the enchanted realm of Wild and the Sage. Immerse yourself in this symphony of sustenance and sagacity, and let your spirit be nourished by the harmonious fusion of mind, body, and soul.

Check the menu & prices in my pictures below 👇 I've been waiting for a long time to come to this coffee shop. When I saw it in pictures it caught my attention because it looks like a bookstore and the perfect place to sit down to work, be creative, read a little and enjoy a coffee and a sweet. All the books are for sale and they have an interesting collection ranging from HI! magazine, novels and science fiction. there are books for children and for adults. Now let's check out the menu. Coffee & tea 🍵 I ordered an iced latte, it is well known that the flavor of the coffee will be lost because of the ice and milk but a good coffee, with good body, will take at least 20 minutes to lose the flavor. So I give the coffee a 3 out of 5 points. After that I asked for uva black tea, really good. speaking of prices: when you come to a coffee shop like this type, I call it a boutique coffee shop, the prices will be maybe higher than normal, but well, it is well known that what is charged here is the comfort of the A/C, the chairs, the comfort to finish the explanation quickly. So for me the price is right, it is what it is. Sweets: I had tried the vegan chocolate brownie. it's not the best brownie in the world but it's not bad for a vegan. 3.8 out of 5 stars. And apparently the carrot cake is the stellar item. During the time I was in the cafeteria, many people came right in asking for the carrot cake. Food: I was tempted but didn't try the main dishes. I read the previous reviews about the taste, and for my picky palate it's better to take a good impression of the place. Today google reviews are important, maybe next time i'll be more daring and try something else. Talking about staff: very kind and attentive at every moment, no complaints for the moment. About the internet connection: It is slow and sometimes fails but enough to keep you in communication or work on something simple. If your thing is downloads and uploads it might not be the place with the right connection. But in general it is a good connection.

A really really great place to stay! The coffee is one of the best I had in Sri Lanka and the atmosphere is how I like it: lovely interior, super cosy and it keeps all the traffic and stress from the city outside. You just grab a book, coffee and become calm. The book selection is impeccable, could have wandered around and read for hours if only the cafe were not closed then ;) Try the carrot cake and brownie! Thanks for having us!

Wild & the Sage is a delightful hidden gem in Unawatuna, it reminds me of the types of charming spots you’d find in Cape Town. It’s perfect for all seasons - it has beautiful reading nooks and a magical yard for breakfast and lunch. We were totally captivated by this gorgeous little treasure! Thanks for having us!

Best place in down south to read books while drinking tea/coffee Me and my girlfriend went there to discover a few books while having some tea and coffee Swear to the whole universe that we had the best chocolate cashew brownie and some tea If you are looking for a place to read a killer book while having some tea/coffee in a calm and quiet place This is the best place, in fact this is the one and only place in south Sri Lanka (Unawatuna) Never forget to say hi to the property owner Mr Joe de alwis!

Love the atmosphere and unique vibe. Creating events makes this place special, Saturday Story Time for kids, Jazz evening, watch social pages for what's next, it won't be the same ..... I had a chat with different people, stories coming to life before my eyes. Food was superb, coffee great. Well done!

Went here twice to find good coffee + nibbles. Only a stone's throw away from where I stayed. Iced caramel latte with carrot cake on the first visit; trio hummus set with iced spiced chai latte on the second. Both were a cure for 'homesick' for these kinds of F&B while in Sri Lanka. Atmosphere was so nice, being surrounded by actuall books (NOT e-books!), book lovers or -at least- readers, while sipping coffee or munching. Seems to have established a community of a unique kind with its book club... in Unawatuna, where lounging & sunbathing at the beach is the norm, so unexpected! A special shout to a kind staff-lady who brought some cure for another homesick: Conversing in my native language! Terima kasih banyak 🙏🏼. Note: Book in the pic is my own.
