This bar is ruining Midigama, which is supposed to be a chill, laid-back surfer's paradise. There's absolutely no need to blast horrible music until 6am almost every day. It's affecting the hotels and locals around and they don't seem to care. The staff seems more interested in partying themselves, than providing any service. The 5 star reviews seem to come from an offer of a free shot. Definitely not a place to stay or even party (the music was really bad and there's no ambience).

Killing the chilled surf vibe of midigama with loud techno all night. Every night. Dont get me wrong, i enjoy a good party, but this is not the place. Maybe on saturday until 2am. But this place is blasting music around all the hostels almost every f##ng night. Bad business for everyone. We went one party night and it was mostly drunk dudes, so not even a good party place

I am not someone who usually leaves bad reviews and I like to party sometimes myself. I am staying 200 meters from Cheeky Monkey and they play insanely loud music 4/5 times a week from 10pm to 8am (!). Some people checked out after one night in my guest house because they could not sleep. Please respect others and turn the volume down.

If you think about staying at cheeky monkey for overnight, don't do it. For a party night, maybe. Most of their good reviews coming from them offering a shot for a 5 star review at their bar. We were there for a few nights and had the most horrible experience in whole Sri Lanka so far. First day we arrived around 5 pm they were not ready to give us our room. When we came to our room: the a/c broken, the lock of the room broken, no bin for trash, not the room from the pictures and the bathroom super dirty with hairs from other people, dust etc.(I make sure to attach some photos I took), not possible to close the window or door to the bathroom. We felt that on the same floor the people working at cheeky monkey were staying, partying themselves every night. Light switches for the room were outside of the room, first night someone turned on our lights from outside in the middle of the night while we were sleeping. The rooftop was very dirty too and no guests were hanging in the common areas, maybe because they feel uninviting and do not look like the photos. We had absolutely no wifi connection were we were staying. Every night very loud music till late from the bar, eventhough no guests were partying there. Worst one was our last night. Always when we thought the music could not get louder, they did turn it up. till 5 in the morning. We could not close the window in the bathroom or the bathroom door. No sleep at all. We were paying 20 dollar a night, coming from good reviews and thinking surfer people are usually chill.

Cool place with beautiful view. But people who work there can betray you. Be careful. I lost $250. And I know even name of this worker who did this.

Not the kind of place you want to have in this otherwise chilled out surf village. There is a seedy atmosphere here and, when we went for the "open mic night" it was just a few drunk tourists singing badly without music. They are also regularly playing super loud music untill 8am which is disruptive for anyone trying to sleep for an early morning surf and ruining local businesses trying to run accomodation. Don't support this. They are giving free shots to tourists who leave reviews so don't believe the hype.

We had a bad experience there. The food is awful, way too expensive, and the service is not nice. Plus, it was smelling grilled coconut while we were there... The only guy who's kind is the bodyguard at the entrance.

We were quite disappointed with the food… and the price are really exaggerated compared to other place we’ve been to during our 3 weeks trip in Sri Lanka.

Love best place to party or even just have a game of pool and chill. Food is amazing also. Love the atmosphere and people. Vibes are immaculate!!!

Ignore the Karen's complaining about loud music in a bar... Best parties hands down Hey Boomers if offering a free shot was enough to get 5 star ratings then why don't the other spots have even higher ratings? Since they do not have ppl like u rating 1 cause of loud music.

If you are staying at midigama highly recommend this place with great local vibes.food party accommodation plus surf etc.

Cheeky monkey is one of my favourite places I’ve visited on the south coast of Sri Lanka. The people are great and the parties are crazyyyyy! If you travel to Sri Lanka, make sure to visit!

Best surf camp! We stayed at Cheeky monkey for four nights and we had the best time. The surf instructors were patient and experienced, and the waves were good for beginners like us. The vibe and atmosphere is excellent, we made a lot of new friends and you will never have a dull moment, as they offer many social activities. The rooms were simple, but clean. It is situated right on the beach and the food was very tasty. All the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. Would love to come back!

We came here last Saturday and it was really good music / the djs from Russia and UK it was amazing, looking forward to go for next week

We love cheeky monkey. If you’re a keen surfer, they have great short boards, mid length and long boards. The staff are efficient and helpful with board selection. Nothing is too much trouble! It’s also a great place to buy wax, fins, leg ropes etc if you have any troubles with your own board in the surf. It’s close to the good local surf breaks and convenience is everything when you’re itching for a wave!! Thanks Baba, Lucky and the crew. We love you ❤️

Cheeky Monkey is the pinnacle of everything fun in Sri Lanka. I’ve never had a bad time here and I’ve been here 3 months. Surf, food, party, location, and people make it the most unique and special spot down south. The staff is very friendly and the owner is an incredible and hardworking person. IM IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE!!

I like the place a lot. Aslam who I surfed with was great. He and everyone else including Baba, the owner, made me feel welcomed at Cheeky Monkey every time I came by. Cheeky is not only a good place to come to for surfing lessons but also for a drink and chill in the evening.

Review only about bar on a party . Long island was not cheap and contains 25ml of vodka and 25ml of cheap local rum, ice and cola. Not expect best quality but this is too much

I spent 3 weeks at cheeky monkey and i had an amazing time! many surf spots in walking distance, a shop with all u need, a good restaurant with fast service, the best partys in the area, super nice stuff and Baba the owner who helps u with everything u need every time! It was my first time travelling by my self, if u think of doing the same just go for it u will meet endless nice people there have cool and nice place to stay and will never be alone :) i will definatly come again! :)

I absolutely love cheeky monkey! With their new establishment they opened, it gives more space for conversation but also has a fun dance vibe!!!! The nighttime parties are the best on the south coast! :)

Cheeky Monkey - the long established surfers’ hangout in Midigama - has just opened a fab chill out bar directly across the road (on the sea side) with great sunset views and cocktails to match. Laid back vibe. Exceptionally nice staff.

Cheeky monkey offers the best location right at the beach front in surf paradise, as well as great food, good parties, all the surf gear you need, and the best vibe. The staff is super welcoming, and Baba is always ready to help you out if you need anything! I stayed here for 2 weeks, and I’m definitely coming back. Thanks for everything guys🙏🏼
