Amazing location. But the day time there is a hell of heat around. But at night its really calm and peaceful but the breeze makes something. I suggest you to go there at the night, like little Europe. Shinny street light, treet foods there are really nice. The moment makes more romantic when you visit with someone you love.

This is an attractive clock tower relatively easy to find at the top of a stone ramp on the fortifications in the South-West corner of Galle fort. It was built in the 19th cover the remains of a guard room. The clock tower is dedicated to a former colonial surgeon. It is four stories high, piercing into the sky to over 25m/83'. Its height makes it a good rendezvous point. From here you get good views both out to sea and inland across the famous Galle cricket ground. Also, you'll find some interesting statues at the base of the clock tower that I believe relate to the era of the Dutch military rule. Worth a look.

The Galle Clock Tower (or Anthonisz Memorial Clock Tower) is situated inside the Galle Fort in Galle, Sri Lanka. The Clock Tower is a famous milestone and neglects the focal Moon Bastion, on the site of the previous watchman room. The check tower was built in 1883, paid for through open memberships by individuals of Galle, in acknowledgment of Dr. P. D. Anthonisz. It depended on a plan by John Henry Gues Landon. The clock was the sole endowment of a thankful patient, Mudaliyar Samson de Abrew Rajapakse. The plate on the clock tower conveys the engraving: "This pinnacle was raised by open membership to the unending memory of Peter Daniel Anthonisz (brought into the world in Galle) in declaration of his expertise and kindheartedness in diminishing human torment. MDCCCLXXXIII". Dr Anthonisz (1822-1903) was an eminent Burgher specialist, who filled in as the Colonial Surgeon for the Southern Province and as an agent on the Legislative Council. The pinnacle is approximately four stories high (25.3 m (83 ft)) and is arranged promptly inside the stronghold defenses.

Well it just looked ordinary but then I did a bit of research to discover the following: The Galle Fort was originally established by the Portuguese following their initial conquest of the island’s maritime provinces. Once the Dutch took overrule from the Portuguese, they continued to develop the structures that the original occupants had left behind – this included the Galle Fort. This practice continued once the British arrived and it was during their reign that the famed clock tower got added to the fort. So the jolly old Brits did it again and according to research the locals were so ecstatically happy that they paid for the tower in honor of Dr Anthonisz who was renowned for his expertise and kind nature. In honour of him, the tower today carries the following inscription – “This tower erected by public subscription to the perpetual memory of Peter Daniel Anthonisz (born in Galle) in the testimony of his skill and benevolence in relieving human suffering. MDCCCLXXXIII”. So there you go!

Galle Fort, located in the heart of Galle city on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, stands as a testament to the island nation's rich history and architectural heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a captivating blend of European and South Asian influences, reflecting centuries of colonial rule and cultural exchange. Constructed by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, Galle Fort later underwent significant modifications under Dutch colonial rule in the 17th century. The fortifications were designed to withstand attacks and protect the strategic port city from invasions. As I strolled through the cobblestone streets within the fort, the well-preserved architecture transported me back in time. One of the highlights of Galle Fort is its impressive ramparts. These thick, towering walls not only served a defensive purpose but also offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Walking along the ramparts, I could feel the cool sea breeze and imagine the bygone eras when these walls witnessed maritime activities and battles. The Dutch Reformed Church, a prominent structure within Galle Fort, is a striking example of Dutch colonial architecture. Its white-washed facade and tall, arched windows create a serene atmosphere. Stepping inside, the interior is adorned with elegant wooden pews and old gravestones, providing a glimpse into the lives of the early Dutch settlers. The Galle Fort Lighthouse, although a relatively recent addition dating back to the 20th century, adds to the charm of the area. Standing tall and proud, it offers an excellent vantage point to admire the fort's layout and the surrounding coastal beauty. As I climbed to the top, the 360-degree view captivated me with the meeting of the old and the new – traditional red-tiled roofs juxtaposed against the modern cityscape. Wandering through the narrow streets, I encountered charming colonial-era buildings converted into boutique shops, cafes, and art galleries. The fusion of contemporary and historical elements creates a unique ambiance, making Galle Fort not only a historical treasure but also a vibrant and living part of the city. Galle Fort's Maritime Museum is another gem, housing artifacts that narrate the story of the region's seafaring past. From old maps to ship models and maritime instruments, the museum provides a comprehensive understanding of Galle's significance as a maritime hub. Beyond its colonial history, Galle Fort is a melting pot of cultures. The Old Dutch Hospital, now transformed into a shopping and dining precinct, exemplifies this fusion. Its colonial-era architecture is repurposed to accommodate modern conveniences while retaining the charm of the past. In conclusion, Galle Fort is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and casual travelers alike. Its well-preserved architecture, historical significance, and cultural diversity make it a must-visit site in Sri Lanka. As I left the fort, I couldn't help but appreciate how it stands as a living testament to the resilience of history, preserving the stories of the past while embracing the vibrancy of the present.

Pretty much calm place. Great for photography. The view is truly mesmerizing. There are no places to have a snack, so you need to bring them with you when you enter the area. It would usually take about an hour to roam the area.

This is the most incredible historical site in Galle. At the base of the tower, you may observe some statues and historical artifacts. That will represent an antique historical circumstance. From the clock tower, you can see the sea as well as a stunning view of the Galle International Cricket Stadium. ** Don't forget to stop here when you're in Galle **

Galle fort clock tower is a prominent historic place in Galle town call rampart. Most of the businesses inGalle fort use Rampart title as it represent history, strength, courage, pride and beauty in southern province. It is representing the dutch architectural capacity in ancient Celon. It is also an emblem of southern Sri Lanka. It is also a photo friendly location with wide range of beautiful sea view. If you visit Galle fort clock tower you can also witness a lot of historical and archeological sites in and arround Galle fort. Naval and maritime museum is one of the best attractive place to visit. There are number of other historical values in and arround. A lot of business are located arround Galle fort clock tower. So you will never feel hungry or satisfaction without completely witnessing all of them. Before dutch arrived at Galle Portuguese had built a small fort in this place, today known as black fort. It is also important to visit one day. Other than Galle fort clock tower there are numbers of bastianz and a light house in Galle fort. The sea arround Gallefort also very attractive to see. You can also have a nice sea and sun bath here. But this is not the only place to have sea bath in Galle. Galle international cricket stadium is so close to Galle fort clock tower. When a game played you can witnesses a number of fans with flags arround the Gall fort clock tower.

Time on the Clock tower is denoted in Roman numerals. The base of the clock tower provides a panoramic view of the Galle City. It is another good spot within the Dutch Fort to enjoy the sunset.

Lying just inside the sturdy stone walls of Galle Fort, the Clock Tower is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and most photographed monuments. Built in 1883, it was erected in memory of Peter Daniel Anthonisz – a popular and well-known doctor. Nowadays, you can still read a plaque that commemorates the doctor’s life and ‘his skill and benevolence in relieving human suffering.’ Towering to a height of 25 meters, the Clock Tower makes for a fine sight with the harbor lying just behind it and the fort all around it.

This is a significant landmark to see if you are visiting Galle fort for the first time. It is claimed to have been built in 1883 at the Moon Bastian of the fort to honor Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It is also dedicated to Peter Danielz, a burgher doctor who was the first Ceylonese to get an M.R.C.P.

A beautiful location and iconic to Sri Lanka. This is a mix of the region and Europe. With free entry you are free to wander the streets of this fort township with shop fronts, religious centres and of course the light house and clock tower famous for this. Over look the ocean at one end and Jayasuriya’s home ground at the other (from the clock tower that oval below is a cricket ground famous for world class cricket and Jayasuriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous batsmen). As with all tourist locations the hawkers are always about but unlike Kandy when you say a polite no thanks they leave you alone. Be sure to have this in your itinerary to see as it’s a great place to see some history, break up the drive from Mirissa / Yala or just see the historical and iconic fort.

Easily visible from much of the northern part of the fort, it can make a good meeting spot. It also is where you walk up to the top of the fort. There are some brass figures on the side of the path, providing some historical perspective of what those who occupied the fort. I didn't see a way to go in the clock tower, but it is beautiful from the outside.
