there are many routes to the Roomassala Beach, the one we took was through the roomassala Wild Life Sanctuary which was a bit round about way. there is a shorter much easier route by way of stair way just before you come to the peach pagoda. the beach is a good place to rest and relax and take in the ocean scenery of Sri Lanka. There is also an well that sailors used in ancient times to supply the ships with water at the beach. this well looks like a pond now but there is a sign posted by Sri Lanka Navy to give information about the well.

Sri Lanka is an island famed for its beautiful tropical beaches. Of the coastal cities in Sri Lanka, Unawatuna is especially renowned for its sunny climes, white beaches, and fun parties. What is not very well-known about this place, is that it is also a place of many folktales and legends. Amongst these, one of these is the legend of Rumassala Hill.

Rumassala Sanctuary: Rumassala is presently declared as a sanctuary and the forest areas are of great interest to botanists as a variety of rare plants and medicinal herbs are found here. It is having panoramic views of the Galle Fort and the surrounding landscapes of Unawatuna and famous Jungle Beach, Also the famous temple names the Japanese Peace Pagoda also with in this Rumassala Sanctuary, on the hilly outcrop, which should not be missed to visit. Rumassala Sanctuary is adjacent to the Jungle Beach, which is a small but isolated stretch of beach accessed by a short trek through the forest that is a good location for swimming and snorkeling. The Legend: The legend dates back to the famous Ramayanaya. It is said that during the Rama โ€“ Rawana war Rama's brother Luxhmana, was injured and Hanuman was sent to Himalayas to fetch medicinal herbs. Hanuman forgot the name of the herb, but he brought a chunk of the peak containing many herbs. However, the mountain fragment slipped and broke into five pieces of which one fell to Rumassala. it is said to be the place that has the highest specific gravity globally.

Situated along the coast of galle is this small sanctuary which has totally different environmental condition & different bio diversity from the surrounding area. It is associated with the famous legendary Ravana-Rama tail. One should definitely pay a visit if they are traveling to Galle. There are 2 temples & a beautiful beach surrounding the sanctuary.
