There are so many turtles and to learn so many things about turtles. The things that the workers in the hatchery do for the turtles with dedication is very valuable. It is a great work doing for the existence of turtles in our world as there are small number of turtles in different types are existing in the world. The treatments you do for the the turtles who faced different accidents is very valuable work and it should be appreciated by all the people in our country.

Lovely place. As they described it. Hospital for turtles. They're doing gods work. Nursing the turtles and making them better. All victims of sea pollution and human at sea conflict. Great staff. So passionate and so much detailing and explanation. Wish them the best and hope the govt can support their efforts.

You can't but help to be impressed with what these people are doing to help to protect the turtle population. If you are interested in these amazing and beautiful creatures and are in the area then a visit is a must. Allied to this, the small fee from your ticket will help them to continue with their amazing efforts.

Not only was it fascinating to learn about the different species of turtles living in the Indian Ocean, it was also shocking to get a close look on the impact the human species have on these beautiful creatures… severe wounds from boat propellers and ghost nets, cracked shells to make money from the material, indigestible plastic that would cause certain death if the turtles aren’t treated properly… The work this team does is amazing! They even collect turtle eggs, so the babies can hatch and start their lives in safety 🤍 wonderful experience, very knowledgeable guide - please keep up the great work you do!

It's an amazing experience to visit one of the turtle rescue stations and a hatchery. I can only recommend this visit to everyone. Bringing the saved hatched turtles feels good after you see the others that the center is taking care of.

Very basic Hatchery. I doubt if they actually do any work even . They charge 1k for entry and next 500 for each turtle you release into sea . But you get to see Hatchery near Mirissa ... thats why its only 3 stars not 2 .

Highly recommend a visit to the turtle hatchery. Their main aim is to hatch and release baby turtles back into the sea, but they also run a rehabilitation project with the input of a local vet treating injured turtles before releasing them back into the sea. The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and the centre is run completely from tourist visits (Rs1000) and donations. You can also release a baby turtle back into the sea for an extra charge, but this is only done in the late afternoon/evening so if this is something you’re interested in be sure to visit after 4pm.

This place is amazing. They take such good care of turtles. It is like a special hospital for turtles together with being a farm to hatch new babies and release to the ocean. We went in a group. Some of us were foreign passport holders, so we had to pay foreign dollar rate. But, that collection goes towards looking after the farm and hatchery. I did not mind contributing to such a good cause. We had a guide who explained in English which was very good for us. Make sure you ask for one. It is worth the insight into turtle life and the wide varieties of them and their habitats and live style. Do drop when you are passing by, or yet, make a special effort to go to this hatchery.

One should really appreciate the hard-working staff & the owner for conservating these rare creatures. The institute is run by a private firm under the guidance of Ministry of Wildlife with funds partially by government and from other well wishing kind hearted individuals. It has a wide range of young & disabled sea turtles, which they release to the sea when they are fit to go.

Nice little sea turtle conservstory. Admission was 1500 rupees per person which seemed a bit much. They had the 5 species of turtles that lives in the indian ocean. A few of each sort with different ”problems” that brought them to the conservatory. A guide moved us through the tanks explaining a bit about why each turtle was there and how they would fix it so they could release it to the ocean. Im a bit sceptical about the sifferent treatments and if they really let them back. Maybe the place is just dor earning money. I hope not. They also had a hatchery with quite a few eggs that people”found” and wanted to save so they gave them to the nursary for protection. So each customer got a newly hatch turtle to walk to the sea and release. Cute and loved by the children.

In this place, people help sea turtles to get better and adapt after the accidents and illness, and also they protect turtle eggs to increase the chances for survival for turtle populations in the environments populated by humans. Personnel tells about every turtle and it's possible to see also very small ones. I recommend to support this place by your visit if you are a nature lover.

Good place to watch and learn about turtles. The person in charge explains well and clearly. According to him, they purchase around 40000 turtle eggs and release the hatched turtles to the sea annually. There are also a few injured turtles which they look after and treat in separate tanks.

It's a scam. Great stories saying this one just came in and that one is about to leave. Exactly one turtle per species with fixed info cards on the wall hanging there forever together with the turtles.

They explain everything so well and answer all your doubts.. Turtles are taken care of and they are doing their best to protect them.. Other people should not kill/hurt them.. A lot of these turtles have come in as they are hurt by fishing nets and lost limbs too :(

1500LKR per adult. Not sure about their intentions. I think they do make money and don't do everything just for the turtles. On 22 sept there was an albino who is to be released in the wild anytime soon, as well as about 5 adults missing fins that are waiting for a protese. Not sure if they are honest, maybe they just keep them for life. Consider that before you visit.

The place is located just beside the road and around 5 vehicles can be parked there... Sea turtle farm &Hatchery Koggla is doing protection of eggs, safe releasing of baby turtles once eggs hatched and treating injured sea turtles until they recover..For the entry I need to get a ticket and they provide a brief introduction of sea turtles...out of 8 species of sea turtles 7 were available at the time of visit...Good initiative to protect sea turtles..

Entrance was 1500 rupees, 1000 extra for releasing a baby turtle yourself. They give a tour explaining the injuries of the turtles present that day and you can interact with baby turtles. I did the baby release on the beach and it felt good.

The place is small and the guide isn't very fluent in English, but the cause is great and it is a great experience to see these wonderful creatures. If the stories are true, they're doing a great job rescuing these turtles and nurturing them back to health so that they can be released back to the ocean 🌊

Commendable work done by the organization. Appreciate the effort and the passion. We were looking forward to visiting the facility for a long time but my children were really disappointed once we were there. They were excited to visit the hatchery and learn about turtles and especially the conservation programs. Unfortunately they had to follow some foreigners to listen to the explanation by the guides there since we were given a brief 5 min intro and dismissed. Especially my young child was unable to understand why she was treated differently than the children in the other group. It's a shame! We are more than happy to pay for a proper guided tour. I hope that the facility can offer equal services to the locals too.

Nice place, can see different types of turtles, rescue turtles, eggs, baby turtles, turtles that have lost limbs and guides there will explain about the turtles and give you a better understanding about turtles. You sometimes will be allowed to carry a baby turtle. They are sensitive so make sure to carry them softly without too much pressure added when carrying. Tickets- 150/- Donation box available for you to add in any amount of donation which is used to protect more turtles lives. Turtles eat jelly fish, plastic bags looks like jelly fish in water, many turtles eat the plastic bags and die. You could sometimes see turtles here who has consumed so many plastic bags and they keep floating in water without being able to swin under water.

Amazing experience, great people. This is actually a hospital and rehabilitation for injured turtles and a maternity for egs and baby turtles. Small conservatory and hatchery but doing some good work. The English guide did a great job explaining how they work and taking us through each turtle and the rehab work and treatment the turtles are undergoing. We could also hold one of the baby green turtles which were absolutely adorable. It would be great to go there during season time and experience how they release the turtles back. Not sure if this is something they offer. If you’re travelling through the south and have an interest in turtles or wildlife it is definitely worth a visit. A great experience for kids too to learn about the harmful effects of plastic in our oceans. Doesn’t take too long for the tour. We paid LKR 1500 per person.

Extremely informative guide which didn’t cost extra once arriving. Pay entrance and mini talk and tour included. Had the different types of turtles explained, why they were here, why they needed the farms supported and the farms plans. Showed us the work and hatchery too. Could had better facilities but it’s for the turtles not tourists which I find great.

The Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery in Koggala is a place filled with heartwarming experiences. Witnessing these incredible creatures up close and learning about the conservation efforts is truly inspiring. We stopped by as we saw the turtles on the walls. It is a small shed where turtles can recover from injuries. You can see about 15 turtles ( 5 different kinds) in 10 or so tanks. There is a field with eggs on the beach as well and you can see a bunch of freshly hatched turtles. Entrance fee is 1000lkr. A bit pricey but OK if it is not a scam...

Oh, this guys and the whole place is very important! You can learn a lot of the sea turtles and see how they recover from they injury. Some turtles has lost legs, hurt they shell or even lost an eye because of the bad fishing people, who don't care enough.. :( The ticket fee is only 1000 Rs, but you can give them donate as well. They will spend this money to buy artificial legs and medicine for the turtles. There's a nursery for the eggs, which is super important, because from here 70% of the baby turtles can survive and safely reach the sea and began they long-long jurney. In the natural habitat only 30% survive, because the bad people, whom still eating this eggs, and of course, other animals are hunting this eggs too... :( Anyway this is a very good place to learn and help! :)

I thought I was helping actual turtle conservation due to the many positive reviews, but then I saw they let people touch the turtles until they got annoyed and it left me with a deep feeling of unease. I released a hatchling from the previous night into the sea and they kept assuring it was fine for them to be touched and brought a meter away from the sea for them to swim away. But I was really not sure whether it is okay or not and in hindsight, having done a lot more research about it now and about hatcheries in general, I am afraid this place looks to make money off people and are not interested in safely taking care of turtles. This saddens me deeply and I feel guilt because I am afraid I have done more harm than good when all I wanted was to help. It's a big shame and conservation should be taken into the government's hands rather than commercial organisations.
