As a tea person, this place was like tea heaven for me! Everything was amazing and you get to know so much about tea manufacturing and much more.

We really enjoyed tour of the estate. We were walking in a group of six, the guide explained everything briefly, showed us important plants, processing of cinnamon and tea. We stopped for nice cup of tea and piece of cake and finished the tour at their shop where we could taste from many types of tea. Amazing! We were really glad we made it.

Beautiful place and experience, learning about how tea is planted and manufactured.🌱🌱 Lots of other plantations around as well, cinnamon, rice, rubber trees, mahogany.. 🌳🪴🌴 Tea tasting was cool in the garden with fresh cakes. 🍰🫖🫖🫖 A welcoming family atmosphere.

We've had an interesting tour of the estate and the small tea factory, but everything felt a little bit rushed. It would be great to get more details on the tour and especially have more time for trying the teas afterwards. Maybe a separate (paid) tasting could be offered?

We managed to get the tour with the owner himself. It is very interesting man with a lot of stories about the tea and the world itself. He also wrote a few books. The Tea is a bit expensive but considering the quality I would say it is o.k.

Its a nice piece of history with awesome guide and tasting and free cakes. Loved the way the guide was explaining about the plantation. Entrance 2$ per person. The tea they sell there are a bit overpriced but they are unique and at first hand. White tea too make you look young super expensive 😅 (40$)

The tea factory is a unique place where you can see all the process of tea making, tea leaves growing and taste dozens of tea. The tour guide will also give you a tea on top of the plantation with a cake slice which is so cute. The tea section is fantastic!!! Virgin white tea is a must to try.

A must-visit! The Handunugoda Tea Museum offers an immersive tea journey in a picturesque setting. Informative exhibits, a factory tour, and a delightful tea tasting session make this a unique and educational experience. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I left with a newfound appreciation for tea culture and some excellent teas from the gift shop. Highly recommended!

The plantation visit was interesting but their should be more explanations. The plantation itself is a beautiful place with a huge area with lots of different plants, flowers and animals (squirrel, birds, peacock). The fabric seemed just a show room to explain how the working process worked. There was just one women working inside. The tasting of 40 different teas was very interesting. We got offered a small peace of chocolate cake which was very sweet and 2 cups of sapphire oolong. We recommend to visit this amazing place it's much better to visit then other plantations in Sri Lanka.

Awesome introduction to tea production. Also cinnamon, rubber, and peppercorn. Learned more here than Mirissa Hills, and it's free with two tea tastings - tea and cakes at family estate home and tea tasting at the shop which I found very educational even though I'm already a tea drinker. Very good for kids too, engaging for them and active walk kept them focused. Highly recommended if you're in South Sri Lanka

My Google Review # 000050. Good insight into Tea Plantation. Expensive Sri Lankan Tea though. This was a detour visit during our SL vacation. As we dropped out the Whale Watching, we googled this place and asked our cab buddy to take us there. The plantation is well kept, just like others, as it is a major source of revenue generation in SL. The plantation tour takes about 45 mins. includes a free tea and cake serving also. After this, they take you through the tea factory, which for me was done in a quite haphazard manner. Later, as expected, they take you to their main shop where there are about 50 samples kept for tasting. 50! Seriously???? After the entire tour and smells around, I bet your taste bud would not be able to differentiate between more than 3-5 samples. Anyways, if you are on a long tour in SL, visit the Blue Field Tea factory [between Nuwara and Kandy].... it is much better there. you also get to pluck the leaves and is very decently explained by the factory's

It was such a great experience! We wondered around tea plantations, visited tea factory, tried tea with cake and all of that free of cost with a great English speaking guide. I would highly recommend this activity.

Friendly walk around the tea plantation with visit of the local factory / museum. Tea degustation in between. Visit is free but it's obviously polite and decent to tip in tip box at the end of the tour (in tea shop next to cash desk). Tea shop at the end with the opportunity to buy local products. Free delivery apparently. An impressive range of flavours and aromas especially the Exorcist tea or Suicide Club tea.

The owners of our apartments recommended this place. The excursion around the property is good and free. The tea is nice - you can select any of a few dozens during the degustation. Worth visiting

We recently visited the Herman Tea Plantation in Handunugoda, and it was a captivating experience. The tour included an in-depth look at the production of both black and green but also white tea. We were especially fascinated by our visit to the black tea factory, where we saw the journey of tea from freshly harvested leaves to finely sorted products. The plantation's diverse range of teas, enhanced with unique flavors like pepper, hibiscus, and cinnamon from the plantation, was impressive. The tasting session was a highlight, allowing us to savor different teas, including the exquisite Virgin White tea, which stood out as a special treat. We also appreciated the opportunity to see the tea plant nursery, adding to our understanding of tea cultivation from its very beginning. The beauty of the plantation, combined with the informative tour and warm hospitality, made our visit truly memorable. For anyone interested in the art and science of tea-making, Herman Tea Plantation Handunugoda is a must-visit destination.

An interesting tour, the guide was knowledgeable. Not a difficult walk around the estate (no horses!). We had tasting session in the shop so you knew the flavour of tea you were buying.

We had a lovely experience at the tea estate! Our guided tour was quick but informative and included a slice of cake & tons of tea. They also grow peppercorns and cinnamon, both of which you can get in their shop. The estate is beautifully lush and makes for a nice afternoon activity.

Nice free tour of a tea plantation (although not of the picking itself). Guides are interesting and talk about the tea, especially the white virgin tea) as well as other spices and plants. Cup of tea and a cake then a look around a packaging plant and a chance to sample a huge variety of teas. There is an opportunity to buy many of the products and a tip box though there is no pressure sell. Great place.

Original tea factory from 150 years ago and still working with more than 35 teas to try out.

Very informative walk around with a member of staff (he did tell us his name but I've forgotten it, sorry!), discussing the plants, and the ethos of the plantation. Stopped for a cup of black tea and chocolate cake, then on to the factory. Unfortunately it wasn't a day for processing (about every 2 weeks so may want to check first). Tea tasting for a long as you want to stay. Absolutely no rush here, it was a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. There was no hard sell either, buy if you want. Thank you for a lovely morning.

This place is amazing. It is a beautiful plantation and we had an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide who gave such in-depth information into their tea growing (and flavouring - cinnamon, pepper, vanilla etc) as well as their tea making process. This was the highlight tour of trip into the south of Sri Lanka and highly recommend it to anyone, even if you don’t drink a lot of tea!
