A breathtaking landscape it is ! The road to entrance is narrow and it's preferred use either private vehicle or a taxi for the drop. The ticket price for garden is Rs.500 while garden + house tour cost Rs.2000, which is on the high end. Well maintained natural garden with a silent surrounding. The guide accompanying guests is an inspired individual. A quality and informative experience.

I would say this is more of an on the way visit location rather than a destination. It’s a beautiful garden an area about 5 acres. Ticket price is on high side, may be the owners want to make it exclusive and limit the visitors. But anyway it’s good if they can be little more polite on the visitors. About 1 km of the access road is narrow, It’s really difficult to cross two vehicles

Beautiful landscape designed by Bevis Bawa, the brother of Jeffrey Bawa. The ticket for the garden entrance is LKR 500 while the house tour is additional LKR 2000. The staff is quite friendly. The garden consist of many levels and locations. Refer to the map at the entrance to better orient yourself in the garden. Many statues of creative creatures, ponds, beautiful stairways and much more can be seen here. Suitable for couples, families or even to hangout alone.

Well We have made a mistake in coming here. Nothing much there to see in the garden. Just a small garden. Spent 1500 for 3 guests to watch the garden. Thats way too much for a garden not maintained well. We would have to spend 6000 if we have decided to watch the house, which we didnt. Thats the only positive thing out of this. Saving a potential waste of money by just opting only to watch the garden.

This place is absolutely beautiful! It’s a little bit cluttered, but a part of its charm. Just look at the photos! Also, make sure to talk to local guide - guy speaks English very well (it was one of the most meaningful conversations I’ve had here), he’s also a very pleasant man. He can tell lots of fascinating things about the place! Absolutely worth visiting!

"Lost Boyfriend's Flower Garden." -𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 It is located in the Aluthgama area of the Kalutara District ... so this park was created by the brother of a renowned architect .. .. .. It has been mentioned that this beautiful house and garden was created by making the loneliness caused by the sudden departure of the girl he loved from him into an art.. It has also been mentioned that there are more than 100 species of trees in the 20 acre land. 𝗕𝗮𝘄𝗮 Not only that why he lived single Are these two brothers lost in love? So this is a must visit place to see this beautifully designed park for love ..

giving 4 star only because it's not worth for the ticket price. we can see lots of other things when visiting other gardens under a much cheaper price. their point is to make this limited crowd, but still. anyway, place is super exciting. a good place to visit. it's beautiful. but nothing to walk much, limited area. experience this.

10.12.2023 The entrance fee is 500 LKR per person. If you wish to visit the house, then the ticket price is LKR 2000/-. The access road to this place is somewhat good. There is a 5-acre garden and one house to visit. As I heard, this place was designed by brother of the famous Jeffry Bawa. You can see many beautiful landscapes all over the garden. A good place to spend time leisurely. It won't take much time to visit the whole garden. Other than the landscaping, there is nothing much to see. But you can enjoy the surroundings.

Brief Garden is a landscape garden and former home in Beruwala, Sri Lanka designed by landscape architect and owner Bevis Bawa. It is home to the landscape design practice, Brief Garden Designs. In 1929 Bawa was bequeathed the family rubber plantation by his mother, Bertha Marianne née Schrader (1876–1946). The estate's unique name was derived from the fact it was purchased by his father, Benjamin, with funds from a successful legal brief. Bawa realised that he lacked the self-discipline to operate and maintain a successful plantation and focused instead on developing the estate's garden. The original estate was approximately 81 hectares (200 acres) with Bawa selling off portions of the estate to reduce it to manageable proportions. He continually worked on the garden until his death in 1992. The estate was inherited by his employees, with Doohlan de Silva, currently managing the property. The entrance to the garden is located through to ornate gateposts, crowned with male and female figures. The gateposts were created by Bawa and Donald Friend, an Australian artist and represent a fusion of Eastern and Western influences. The path then leads to two additional entrances. The first, a black and white door set in a mustard yellow wall, leads to the house via a curved staircase. The second leads down into the garden but screens any views of the house.

This is a nice garden developed by Bevis Bava. There are several roads leading to this place on Google map (all I believe accurate). These roads are not wide but narrow and winding. Better to have repellent if you don't wear long jeans. There is an entrance fee but no guided tour. I have been to this place several times but my recent visit gave me the impression that it has not been well maintained. There is also another nicer garden developed by Geoffrey Bava (search Lunugala Garden on Google map) which offers guided tours at specific times.

Just loved it. Its like a walk in paradise. Just think that you are walking on same paths where Agatha Christy and Vivien Le were walking. And they allowed to go inside the house as well. And those black lilies 🖤🖤!

I think this used to be a very active place not too long ago. I've even heard a lot of stories abou the place. It's a large garden with lots of cross pathways. Need time to cover everywhere. The bungalow is exclusive. Maybe due to lack of visitors, it's hard to keep the place sturdy. But if you are around, it's a nice place to have a visit.

Tickets for the garden -300 per person ,and to see the house & garden -1000 per person for locals . The garden is small , (photos included please check) , there is nothing much for you to see for 1000. The staff will educate about the history & the stuff . You can take photos . But they charge 25,000 for a photoshoot. There is a car park , narrow road , can come in a car . Kept well and maintained well by the staff. It will take about 30-45 min to see everything but u can spend there anytime you want untill they close.

Owners(head Gardner and his wife) are very rude, they didn't even let a 3 yr old sit on a chair after walking in the garden. There's nothing much to see inside the house despite of the 2000LKR ticket.only the living room and open bathroom are extra. No kitchen or bedrooms are included 😂. None of the water features are functional. But the garden is very well manicured. And worker who's issuing the tickets gave us a very good tour.

Bewis Bawa’s home and garden. Brief Garden is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Bentota. This garden is perfectly landscaped with little attractions scattered throughout the premises. Sculptures, uniquely designed ponds steals the limelight here and walks in this space are an extremely delightful experience. Tickets are priced at LKR 2,000 for locals and expatriates and USD 10 for foreigners. This place is easily accessible, although the road leading up to the main entrance is somewhat narrow.

(Translated by Google) Nicely landscaped garden. Except for a black lily there are no plants that are worth visiting. A house tour of a person who lived out her sexual desires there in the 1950s shows some pictures that could be of interest to people interested in the story. We strolled slowly through the garden and looked at the house, everything together took about 30 minutes and 2000 rupees were charged for an entrance ticket. It used to cost 1000. There are nicer destinations for the money. If I had known what to expect beforehand, I would not have come here. On the subsequent walk on Brief Garden Road, a local resident showed us turmeric and pepper plants, saw banana and many other flowers and all for free or for a smile.

Thrilled with Brief Garden's enchanting landscape! Bevis Bawa's visionary touch is evident in the thoughtful use of natural trees, creating a harmonious blend with the surroundings. The commitment to preserving nature's beauty shines through, offering a unique and sustainable oasis. I was very disappointed with my visit to Brief Garden. The garden is small and not well-maintained. There is no path to follow, so you just wander around aimlessly. The ticket price is way too high for what you get to see. The worst part of the experience was the owner (head gardener). He was very rude and unhelpful. He refused to answer any questions and just told us to "look around." He also seemed to be very protective of the garden, and we were not allowed to enter certain areas. I was also disappointed that the garden was not as advertised. The board at the entrance shows a picture of a large garden, but the actual garden is much smaller. I also feel that the owner is false advertising by charging such a high entrance fee for such a small garden. I would not recommend visiting Brief Garden. It is a waste of time and money. There are many other gardens in Sri Lanka that are much more beautiful and well-maintained.

The Brief Garden is located at Kalawila (a rural village) in Kalutara District. The house in the Gardern is used as the residence of Bevis Bawa, a sibling of Geoffrey Bawa. You need to buy a ticket to watch Brief Garden and House of Bawa. Sri Lankans can visit Brief Garden only at a cost of Rs. 500.00 and House and Garden at a cost of Rs 2,000.00. A non-Sri Lankan has to pay 10$ (Rs 3,300.00 based on the current rate, you can pay in Sri Lankan Rupees). We purchased Garden tickets only and visited the landscape but no guide to explain the importance of the garden. Even though it has been said the garden with 5-acercs, we did not have access to the whole area. The house was constructed on the top of a hill on elevated ground, and we were not allowed to go beyond elevated ground. Only the front and the roof of the house are visible. There was a nice landscape on the front of the house to facilitate the stormwater to drain out. The sculptures and stairways were attractive, but dirt and fungus were on the surface of the sculptures. The walkways were arranged nicely but very poor maintenance was seen some gullies were filled up with soil. The garden was consistent with flowers and decorated plants. As we visited in December, we could not see any flowers in the garden. The Garden was dark and full of mosquitos. It may be because of its poor maintenance or by its nature. Please take a mosquito repellent when you visit. Two non-Sri Lankans who visited with us went to the house area. They had a guild in the house visit. But seems like they are not happy about it. If you have a real interest in architects, there is a good place to visit. Otherwise, there are plenty of places to visit around.

Not worth the price yet, worth visiting if you are interested in low country gardens. Don't expect flowers, orchards and stuff very much, most of the gardening is done with only trees. Garden is 5 acres yet most of the space doesn't have much to see.

If you are close enough this is well worth the effort. The garden is an oasis of calm and the bungalow is to die for. 2000 Rupee's might sound a lot but this garden doesn't receive any public funding to keep it running. Plus the place is amazing. Gardens, antiques, and artwork, what more could you ask for, plus a bit of sauce. Apologizes for no photos, as I haven't uploaded from my camera yet(just got back).

The Brief Garden by Bevis Bawa, in my opinion, is nothing short of a mystical garden straight out of a fairytale. This green paradise is hidden away in the heart of Beruwala, far from the bustling city. Fair warning to those who plan to travel here in a large group, by bus, as the road leading to the brief garden away from the main-ish road cannot accommodate a bus. If so, walking is mostly the only option as there are not much tuks available there either. Tickets are issued at $10 per foreign visitor and at 500LKR for the garden and 2000LKR for the garden plus the home. The garden spans over several acres, and holds different types of landscape designs which are mesmerising. There are different types of statues all over the garden, which add a different level of beauty to the location. Bawa's house is definitely the highlight of the garden. While many tend to buy the ticket only for the garden, it's the house that holds entry the most architectural pieces of the location, such as the infamous Moon Door, the open bath house and the external bathroom with the blue door. All these hold breathtaking beauty and show the spectrum of Bawa's creativity. Inside the house, there is a whole lot more of Bawa's paintings and other creations, as well as a collection of books, statues and paintings he got hold of during his foreign travels. In addition to that, there are paintings and statues created by his friends who visited him over the years. It is safe to say that this mesmerizing location is definitely a must-visit, and will surely heal your heart, mind and soul.

Excellent place, made myself and wife to go there after watching a video by a popular YouTube vlogger. People there are friendly and supportive, but with a little pride for being current owners of the place, which I totally understand, unlike Geoffrey Bawa's place at Lunugala which is managed by a trust, "The Brief" is a private property inherited to the son of Bevis Bawa's head gardener as per the last will. So much to learn. The trail of upper society at the end era of colonial Sri Lanka can be seen from photographs and artworks, it is one of rare opportunities for commoners to look at how they spend their time. The massive library in the living area impressed me so much and also the space allocated for gatherings and spend the daytime tell us the way of the leisurely living of this planter.

Drive to the location is a mess to the extent even google navigation get fooled. Road is a wreck and cannot accommodate a good family sedan. When I arrived, although supposed to be open, no one was around the entrance. Only phone number found was not responding. As we were to return, someone appeared and said it's open. We opt to visit the garden only. I never found the beauty seen in photos published. It's more of a abounded mansion in a jungle. Get lost easily and kept coming to the same place many a times. Not worth the money or efforts

This location was designed by Bevis Bawa, who was one of the most renowned landscape architects in Sri Lanka. This is located 20 mins away from Aluthgama town. The road leading to the premises is narrow and even hard to cross 2 vehicles. At the entrance you will find parking space. To enter the garden you need to ring the bell and get help from the person there. Entrance ticket to the garden costs 500 rupees and to visit the bungalow costs 2000 rupees. These prices are really expensive compared to the experience you will get there. We couldn’t say the garden is well maintained. However, I managed to keep the vintage view of it. You will find stone carvings around the place blended with nature. You may find the cascading pond and the scenic tree in front of the bungalow interesting. Throughout the premise you will find footpaths leading to different dimensions of the landscape. Unfortunately the map at the entrance gate was faded and one could hardly read content there. On top of that there’s no sign boards directing you to the right places. I suggest this place shouldn’t be a destination but a place to visit during your journey. You will face difficulties since the road is narrow. However, it would be worth it for a one who is eagerly looking for landscapes like this.

Brief, a wonderful jungle-like garden created by Bevis Bawa, is to be reached within a few min by three-whellers from Bentota. The garden, a former crop plantation, is lovely and contains uncountable plants (trees, shrubs, flowers) in several levels, all connected by narrow paths. We could visit the garden for our own, for the house there is a guided tour. A must for garden and plant lovers (2000 Rp per person). (Translated by Google) Briefly: If there is nothing to do, then you can go, but there’s nothing special to watch and money (2k per person) is not worth it. First, the pros: A well-kept garden, a pretty clean house, the owner will show exhibits and tell the story of the past owner of the house. To make it easier, they will offer chilled wet towels with an outlet. There is a toilet. Time is not limited. Of the minuses: The garden is small and in fact it is a few connected paths going from the house to the forest, it will not be possible to see special beauty. The most successful places are a kindergarten near the house, a moon arch and a ladder of ponds right next to the house. The house is not of special interest either, some interesting paintings, and then Bava’s military photos, some furniture, a couple of stories about his past and now you just started to get bored, and the owner wishes good luck, picks up towels and goes to tell the story to the next group. The owner reminded the robot-butler: he worked, went on. We managed in 55 minutes, including a garden, toilet, excursion and take a picture, there is nothing to do longer (Original)

Brief Garden is Bevis Bawa's house in Dharga Town. A few kilometers from Beruwala. Nicely maintained house by the caretakers. Its in the uphill. The house is full of Sri Lankan architecture. Timber, wood, structure are all purely Sri Lankan blend. The garden is full of flowers. I love this place very much.

Very calm, peaceful place area with a rich garden designed by Bevis Bawa. You may think the ticket price is bit high but it is necessary to maintain such a beautiful environment with a less amount of crowd. Good place for photographers.

Rs. 2000/- per person is a total rip-off. The acess road too is very narrow. Could not find any thing inspiring in the Architecture of the house or anything artistic in the gardens which justified the price of a ticket.

You must have heard of the famous Sri Lankan architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa? His brother, Bevis Bawa created Brief Garden as a tribute to all things that are beautiful. Brief Garden is located in the southwest of Sri Lanka and visitors must cross rice paddies, fields and the countryside to get there. You could add this on your Sri Lanka itinerary when scheduling a day tour from Colombo to Galle.

Nice garden but not worth for 500 LKR ticket for a local adult. They only focus profiting. At least no place to sit, relax and enjoy a cup of tea.
