It is a small island off Matara beach right in the town centre. There is a nice Buddhist temple there, still under construction. Very nice views from the temple. A word of warning, the bridge that linked the mainland to the island collapsed. The metal deck is absolutely rotten and they have put loose wooden planks over the deck, there are many places where the planks are missing. There are many videos on the internet showing the collapse of this bridge. There is a new sea bridge made by the local government but it is not safe in the high tide.. when the high tide comes they are is a very huge risk factor that you might swift into the sea... And the island is in poor condition... there are no plans or places to attract tourists. .. So travel at your own risk...

Parawi duwa temple is one of the famous tourist attraction place in Matara. The temple is located in a picturesque island surrounded by indian ocean. There was a huge bridge connected to the island and people can easily access the temple.

Its nice to be on the top. I felt like i was on top of a light house. I could see big ship liners on the horizon. Whole Matara town can be viewed from here.

(Visited on 18 June 2023, reviewed on 2 July 2023) The Parewi Duma temple is a one-of-a-kind Buddhist temple in the sense that it is located on a separate island from Matara beach. One can access the temple via a pedestrian bridge. The main one is under repair, so there is a temporary bridge (a little bit of risk involved when crossing as it is narrow). You will need to pay for a ticket once you cross the bridge and climb the staircase to the temple entrance. Nonetheless, despite the cloudy weather, reaching the top of the temple rewarded me with a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and the immediate surroundings of Matara and the coastal Southern Province.

The island has a very dilapidated bridge to cross from Matara beach to the temple that is on the island. One bridge is broken in half and unusable, and the other in service, is in poor condition and even dangerous to cross. When you get to the island temple, you have to pay 1000 sri lankan rupees if you are a tourist, and 500 sri lankan rupees if you are a local, supposedly it is a donation at will, but if you don't pay you don't get in. The temple is under reconstruction.

I recently had the opportunity to visit this tiny island with nothing but a beautiful buddhist temple. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the island's beauty. The temple itself was nestled among lush greenery and surrounded by cristal clear waters. 🏝️🏖️️ I spent a few minutes exploring the temple ground and was constantly in awe of intricate details and stunning architecture. The peaceful atmosphere of the temple was palpable and I found my self feeling incredible relax and at ease. 😌 You can visit temple upper level via the built-in concrete stair, that allows visitors to take in the breathtaking views of the deep sea and the city. In upmost you will find the Chaithya which is the pinnacle of the island. ☸️

A most unique place in Matara town. Be sure to go in sunrise or sunset time to see a better view. Windy days, the sea is rough so careful about sea current.

Parewi Duwa Temple is situated in Matara surrounded by the Indian Ocean (Closer to main Bust stand) The island is closer to the mainland and its just 75m from the Main Road. Access to the island is through cable bridge and presently destroyed due to corrosion. How ever they have constructed a temporally bridge which is unsecured and be mindful when walking through it. You can have a clear panoramic view on the silk route. And the sea is rough and not suitable for bathing. The temple is still under construction and once completed, It will have a peaceful environment for the devotees. No stalls, or shops are available for refreshments within the island, Hence better be prepared if you wish to stay for few hours.

A quite beautiful place to visit in Matara. This is an island. You can get a great view by getting there. The reason for giving 4 stars is that the bridge was a bit damaged.

One of a historical place in center of matara town. Just behind the matara bus stand and folks are about this island talking since 1700. This is a small island with buddhist shrine. Crowded place. Magnificent view. Super cool. Its worth to visit. Most disgusting part is the bridge is in very bad condition. Really its dangerous to walk on the bridge. Must be so careful . Relevant authorities should pay attention about safety of the bridge.

This place has a natural environment with sea bases scenery. When you are walking to this place you need to pass the narrow unsafe bridge. As whole this is lovely place to visit.

Once you cross the bridge just go back. Don’t go up the stairs because it is a scam. Also be very careful on the bridge, it is very dangerous, especially for children.

Paravi Duwa Temple is located on a small island across from Matara Beach. It is just walking distance from the Matara bus stand. It has a peaceful environment. At the top of the temple, you can see a magnificent view of the surrounding area. The under construction new bridge is not safe.

😐 The place gets confused with dutch markets, dutch antique shop, dutch fort. This is just a space used for nursery. Well kept, beautiful plants but not what we went for.
