Peaceful location. Not very crowded when we visited in 2013. Has a beautiful view of the Unawatuna Beach and sea. Good for areal photography or just relax for few seconds. Quite higher up from sea level. So pleasantly windy. But hot and sunny. so wear your sunscreen. Be sure to leave the place clean and nice as you found it.

A Buddhist place of Worship situated at the end of Unawatuna beach provides some breathtaking views from the top. Tourists are requested to take off their shoes before entering. It can be accessed from both the beach and the road behind it.

Lovely peaceful temple at the end of a very busy beach and resort. A hot walk in bare feet up to the temple though. Lovely spot.

Clean water, safe beach, great restaurants. I find it hilarious that other people rate it poorly because it’s over crowded. It is one of the best beaches one can visit- of course it’s over crowded! Beach was busy (so was the sea) but it had a great vibe and everyone was very happy to be in paradise.

Welle Dewalaya is a historic temple located in the coastal town of Unawatuna, Sri Lanka. The temple is situated on a small hill overlooking the Unawatuna beach and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Welle Dewalaya is believed to have been built during the Kotte Kingdom era, which spanned from the 14th to 16th century AD. The temple was renovated and restored several times over the years and now stands as a beautiful example of traditional Sri Lankan temple architecture. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Pattini, who is believed to be a protector of the island and its people. Visitors to the temple can admire the intricate carvings and colorful paintings that adorn the walls and ceilings of the temple. There is also a large statue of the goddess Pattini, which is an important object of worship for devotees. Welle Dewalaya is open to visitors every day and is a popular tourist destination in Unawatuna. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the temple grounds and take in the stunning views of the surrounding area. It is recommended to dress conservatively when visiting the temple out of respect for the religious and cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.

Lying on a small hill at the western end of the beach, this Buddhist temple provides a quiet spot away from the crowds. It takes a small hike to get there, and a vigilant monk will instruct you to remove your shoes at the bottom before you climb flights of stairs to the top. The site is undergoing reconstruction, but you can see a small temple with an image of Lord Buddha along with a stupa at the top. There are a number of vantage areas to enjoy the scenery and take photo ops. The whole area is a good spot for enjoying sunsets. Very old temple and a devol in Unawatuna area. Situated on a hill faced to the beach. A very nice and safe place to visit. You can see a very rare tree named Konthalan, in the temple premises. As per botanists, there are only few trees of this type available in the world.

Can have very beautiful view of the Unawatuna Beach on the road to Welle Devalaya. It can be accessed from both Unawatuna beach and 2 roads beside. Better to take long road during weekends or public holidays. No much parking available and roads get packed during holidays as most of people visit there. Very beautiful place πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ A sacred place and must visit in Unawatuna.

This temple is situated in one of the most remarkable places in the country. What a view of Inidan ocean from the cliff. This is actually the other end of Rumassala. I haven't tried. But i think tou can take a walk to jungle beach from here. Its a place to worship and relax and even to meditate... during mornings or evening.

Great location, very relaxing, didn't tire at all of watching & listening to the ocean. The beach & the sea was very welcoming... Didn't try any of the available activities but lots available (if you're after more than relaxing).
