Little bit about Diyaluma Falls (Uda Diyaluma Hike) Diyaluma water fall is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka with a 220 m (720 ft) high, located in Badulla district. Its just 1 hour drive from Ella (one of the post popular tourist destinations in Hill country) towards the Wellawaya in Ella – Wellawaya road. Most tourist visit Diyaluma falls and some do the hike to the top, on their way to Yala or Udawalawa national parks after visiting Ella. Diyaluma Waterfall has a great viewing point at the bottom where you can have a swim in the cold water and while enjoying the amazing view of the waterfall. Upper Diyamula (Uda Diyaluma) Hike - how to get into the trail? Before you get into the trail, ask a local who is familiar with the area to show the road that leads to the trail. Since the paths are not marked, it is advised to get some help and guidance from the locals. You can easily find a local to guide you to the top for a small tip. Make sure that you agreed to a price before starting the journey. It takes about 45 – 60 minutes to reach the summit (depending your physical stamina). It is not an easy as you have to walk through tall grass areas, steep climbs and slippery rocks. If you are lucky you will be able to see elephants roaming around the area. Make sure that you follow your guide’s advises all the time. Once you reach the top after a tiring hike, you get to see the breath-taking view of the entire area and the beautiful upper Diyaluma falls. One would not think for a second to jump into the natural pool filled with cold water. You could not ask for a better relaxation after such a tiring hike. Enjoy the epic view of the falls and take a swim at the base if you please! Things to know before you go It is always advisable to find a local as your guide for a small tip It will be a hot hike – make sure you have sufficient water, sun protections Better to cover your body with long sleeves as the hike is through tall grass areas Bring your swimsuits, plenty of natural pools to have bath The trail is not marked with any signs. Keep in mind that finding help in an emergency situation will not be easy. Be cautious and follow your guide’s instructions all the time Be cautious of the heavy wind at the top, you could easily lose the control Pay attention for leeches specially during the rainy season.

A stunning waterfall both from the bottom and the top! I would recommend definitely making your way to the top to enjoy swimming in the mini waterfalls and to see the stunning view from the top down. The walk from the entrance is about 1km with some easy parts and harder terrain. I would recommend wearing some more stable shoes. The waterfall is so refreshing to swim in, just take care on those slippery rocks. Places at the entrance to grab some snacks, food and refreshing drinks. Entrance fee (about 400 meters into your hike) is 350 Sri Lankan rupees per person so make sure to bring some cash.

Very nice place, try to go early morning or at the sunset, avoid Sundays and holidays. Easy trek but better with closed shoes. Bring food for monkeys if you want to , I regret i didn’t bring. Enjoy the views and the nature, bring your trash with you , if you see some trash brings it also .

👀 This waterfall offers an absolutely stunning view! It's one of the most mesmerizing sights I've ever seen. The cascading water and surrounding scenery create a picture-perfect setting. 😍💦 💦 I even had the chance to venture along the waterfall and take a refreshing bath in a peaceful spot where the water gathers. It was such a rejuvenating experience! 💧🌿 🚧 However, I must admit that the overall travel experience to this location was disappointing. The road condition was extremely poor, resulting in a significantly longer travel time, even though it was a designated bus route. 🚌🛣️ 🌍 To attract more international visitors to this incredible destination, immediate action is needed to improve the accessibility of the area. By making the journey easier and more convenient, the authorities can truly showcase the allure of this magnificent place to a wider audience. 🌟🛣️ ✅ Remember to mark this review as HELPFUL to encourage more detailed reviews for others. 😊👍

The second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. No Entrance. You can take a bus from Ella to Wellawaya and then a bus to the waterfall. It's less than 600 rupees for the whole trip. Waterfall i amazing and so many spots to swim, under or above. You can camp there as well. Really enjoyable place. Monkeys around and no tourists in the morning and at noon. Afternoon is time when tourists come there with a guide. Btw. You don't need a guide. Just use maps me and you're good to go. It was a highlight of my trip for sure. Highly recommended

Diyaluma falls is the seconds highest waterfall in Sri Lanka which locates in Badulla district in Koslanda. The height of the waterfall is 220 metres and the watercourse is Punagala oya. The name given to the waterfall "Diyaluma" carries the meaning of "rapid flow of water". An interesting folklore woven around the fall is the tale of a young chieftain who had been expelled to the highlands. Since every door was guarded, his betrothed had no way to join him and therefore the man let down a rope for her to climb up on to the rock. But unfortunately before she managed to reach the top she fell down, dashed her head on the rocks beneath and died. The deities moved by this tragic and untimely death, made a stream of water to fall down from the hill which eventually was identified as Diyaluma falls. However, the lower Diyaluma water pools are banished for swimming and bathing in the wet season since it is very dangerous. The beautiful and epic views are beyond description and the hikes are really interesting. So, reserve a date to visit Diyaluma falls in your journey because we assure you that you will never regret the time and energy spent on visiting this wondrous place filled with the miraculous creations of nature!

A two hundred meter waterfall. Impressive. I recommend a trip to the top. You will find lots of natural pools there. There are two ways. The first one, about 1 km, by road to the left of the bridge. It is very simple, approx. 40 minutes. The second one starts on the road to the right of the waterfall, in the direction of the rubber factory, it is more difficult to find, time similar. Take your food and drink, you'll want to be here all day. Accessible by bus from Haputale or Wellawaya. Approx. 1 hour. Ticket around 100 Rs.

Amazing hike and waterfall. The hike was not hard we got a guide to walk us through it and it did not cost much. It is almost 45 minutes up until the main waterfall and then another 10 minutes to the higher waterfall. So clean and scenic. The current was strong so we were unable to sit on the edge of the fall.

Diyaluma Waterfall is the country’s second tallest waterfall and one of the most accessible. Like many places in Sri Lanka, Diyaluma Waterfall is yet another location that is entrenched in folklore. The second highest waterfall in the island, it stands at a magnificent height of 220 metres. It is located approximately 40km from Ella, close to Koslanda on the side of the Colombo – Badulla highway, and is therefore much easier to access in comparison to the Upper Diyaluma Falls. The pool here at the foot of the fall is ideal for a refreshing dip. The waterfall is formed by Punagala Oya, a branch of Kuda Oya which in turn, is a branch of Kirindi Oya. The horsetail type falls cascades down Koslanda Plateau. Ideally,

I have been there 3 times with different weather conditions. Following three photos shows how the water flow changed in rainy season. When there is a huge flow, water droplets spread all over the road even, making a totally different atmosphere. The waterfall hight is 628 ft above road level.

There are few stunning locations. One is where the waterfall falls by the road. Others are up the waterfall. You can go to the top of the waterfall and also where the water break at the cliff. If you walk up you’ll find few bathing spots, upper Diyaluma. When you walk up make sure you turn to the right side of the trail. We took a wrong path and it took us a long time to reach. There’s a tea shop on the top. Pol rottie - 60 LKR Plain tea - 30 LKR Water is cold, sun is hot ✨ pictures are cool ✨

You can easily reach to top most car park where there are few shops with tea and other refreshments. You will have to ay for parking. There is a concrete pathway starting there leading you halfway the waking path where you will have to buy a ticket. It is about a 30 minutes walk to the top where you will be served with marvelous views and lovely natural pools. Hence, the walk down will be to the series of mini falls and pools which are breathtaking. You can have a bath but should be very careful as in some places there are strong currents and quite deep. To sum it up it is a breathtaking view up there and definitely worth a visit.

Approximately 40 minutes drive from Ella town, this place is worth the visit. We drove to the waterfall and then paid for a guide who took us to the top of the waterfall (one-third of the way in Tuktuk and the rest on foot). You can swim up there and the view from the top is spectacular! We were slightly concerned about leeches but the guide knew the way to avoid them which was a bonus. Totally recommend

We paid for a guide even though we read online that you could do it alone and we don’t regret it one single bit. He showed us exactly where it was safe to go on the water fall and where it was not. We were the only one in the water in many of the places. We stayed over 2 hours in the numerous falls. Unluckily, we lost a watch on the last jump from one of the fall. The guide went back after we left and found it. Contact Sudu if you want to have the best experience 701085255 Recommended price from 2500 for 2 people. A small fee is charged at the entrance of the park.

One of the best places in Sr Lanka to visit with your family. To go to the top can access from the bottom by taking a small road that is on the right hand side about 1.5km past Diyaluma Falls if you are coming from Wellawaya. There you can drive up to a large parking area and then with or without a guide you can hike up. Most of the guides' wives have small restaurants so you can order food for the end of the hike when you come down. The food is reasonable and very tasty. For the hike you should have closed hiking shoes or at least sneakers. During the rainy season there are leaches so best have on pants or tights. The hike is a good one but not too hard. We did with small kids. But it is a hike and those with limited mobility will not make it. Best go from top if you have knee issues. From the bottom you get to the top of the falls first and then if you like you can hike up further and find many nice swim areas and also places to jump.. The highest is about 12 meters and you also have small ones or 1 or 2 meters that are safe and fun. There is a place for tea, rothi and king coconut near the main picture taking area. You can also get to same place but from the top down, by going past Koslanda and turning in the town on a sharp hairpin to the right. After about 3 km of driving up you will come to a small tea picking town. There you can park and hike down. There are guides as well and it can be good to take one. We have also tried hiking from top all the way down.. Which was fun.. But then you need to take a tuk all the way back up if you left your vehicle there. Best do earlier in the day. Also please be warned if it starts raining heavily DO NOT GO as the whole mountain's rain comes down from that Waterfall. It becomes very dangerous. Please do not leave garbage.. Respect the environment.

That was an unexpected highlight of our whole trip. We have been convinced by the local guide (didn’t remember the name, but in first foto - he lives in the only house right at the bridge of the waterfall viewpoint of the road) to do the tour . Short tuktuk trip and around 30 min walking up, quite some walk, but we managed with small kids; 2,5 and 6) and experienced local village live and incredible nature / views. We were rewarded with a local authentic brunch on top (without words) and fantastic natural pools If you dare, jump !:-)

Udu Diyaluma Waterfalls – Koslanda is the 2nd highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Uda Diyaluma is a popular attraction waterfall among the waterfall lovers. There are three ways to get to the top of the waterfall. It about the 45-minute steep hike from Koslanda village. You can find it on Punagala Road via the Diyaluma Estate. The hike to Diyaluma is quite straightforward . So it is not too difficult if not weighed down by camping gear – people often make it under 45 minutes. The Falls are formed by Punagala Oya, a tributary of Kuda Oya which in turn, is a tributary of Kirindi Oya. Once you got to the top after a hike, you will see the breath-taking view of the area. So you can feel the beautiful top Diyaluma waterfalls. You will not think for a second to jump into the natural pool filled with cold water. You could not ask for a better relaxation after this a hike. This is for you foreigners ❤️😊 In Udu diyaluma there are so many local guides try to cheat and grab your money so be careful when you're dealing with local guides

Beautiful falls. Nice swimming up the top a few hundred meters from the actual falls. Was worth paying a guide to show us the way to get there. The walk was about 20 min. Would recommend good shoes since it was slippery and a long way down if u fall. Same guy (of course) took us his sisters restaurant (manus hotel) where we bought some nice juices.

The 220m Diyaluma Is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. This beautiful waterfall can be reached from Haputale or Ella as a day tour location. Naulla is one of the starting point for hiking this mountain. For a small tip, local boys in the area will help you spot the infinity pool on the top of the mountain. It is a very nature friendly trekking through rumbles and mini pools.

Beautiful waterfall! Amazing pools to swim in. Great place to jump into water! There was a small entrance fee of 350 lkr when entering. At the entrance they were suggesting taking a guide but we didn’t and it was perfect. We met people along the way that were convinced to take a guide and after speaking with them they felt it was a waste and very unnecessary.

This beautiful waterfall is the second Highest Waterfall in Sri Lanka. It can be reached from two sides from Wellawaya - Beragala road (Old Colombo - Badulla road) which is a scenic road but condition of the road is ragged where as the more popular route is one from Colombo - Haputale road where you have to take a 17km deviation from main road. Its an absolutely stunning waterfall specifically on sunrise. A motorcycle or a threewheel would be the ideal vehicle to reach the place but motorcar also would do. Weekends the place is crowded with tourists. The place has few pastry shops and toilet facilities are also available. If you are looking for adventure you can reach the upper diyaluma (Top of the waterfall from by trekking a forest trail.) which gives you stunning view.

One of the most iconic and marvelous waterfall in Sri Lanka. A true natural beauty. It is not more than 100metres from the road of Wellawaya to Badulla. The water level can be change with the weather. In heavy rains the water fall will invade the nearby main road and will restrict smaller vehicles passing. There's small ponds of fresh water from the location water is failing and up to the main road. You can swim there by watching out for slippery rock. You can even climb up to the water fall by a specific route.

Diyaluma Falls is a must-visit destination for those who are exploring Sri Lanka's natural wonders. This waterfall is a hidden gem that offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes and is truly one of the most attractive falls in the country. The location is easily accessible and can be reached even by bus, making it a perfect day trip option. Visitors will be impressed by the height and width of the waterfall and the amount of water that cascades down the cliff. Although it might be tempting to take a dip in the cool water, it is not safe to swim or bathe in the falls, so be sure to enjoy the view from a safe distance. There are also no entrance fees for either foreign or local tourists, making it an affordable and accessible option for all visitors. In addition to the stunning views, visitors should be aware of the stray dogs and monkeys that can sometimes be found near the waterfall. To avoid dangerous encounters, it's best not to feed them. Overall, Diyaluma Falls is an incredible natural wonder that should not be missed by anyone visiting Sri Lanka. The waterfall offers stunning views, easy accessibility, and an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. So, make sure to pack your camera and head to this breathtaking location for an unforgettable experience.

Second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Don't forget to visit (Uda Diyaluma - upper Diyaluma) for unique views of the upper part of the waterfall. A rare opportunity to look down from above the waterfall. There's a diving point if you're adventurous (exercise extreme caution!). Seek advice from local guides about the water level, depth, and safe jumping area (you need to jump into a certain area at the middle to avoid injuries which could be fatal)

Diyaluma Falls is a natural wonder that commands both awe and admiration. This cascading waterfall, nestled in the Sri Lankan highlands, is an absolute gem for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The trek to Diyaluma Falls is an adventure in itself, with a fairly challenging hike leading to the waterfall's stunning viewpoint. But the effort is more than worth it when you witness the majestic, multi-tiered falls tumbling down the rock face. One of the most remarkable features of Diyaluma Falls is the large natural pool at the base, where visitors can take a refreshing dip. The water is crystal clear, and the experience of swimming in the cool mountain waters while surrounded by the lush greenery is truly unforgettable. The viewpoint at the top of the falls offers a breathtaking view of the entire valley, and it's an excellent spot for taking in the natural beauty of Sri Lanka's hill country. The sight of the water gushing down into the pool below is a sight to behold. Overall, Diyaluma Falls is a must-visit destination for those exploring the Sri Lankan highlands. It's a place where the raw power of nature and serene beauty combine to create a memorable and captivating experience.

Diyaluma falls are located in Sri Lanka's Badulla district on the Colombo-Badulla highway, about 6km east of the regional town of Koslanda, and around 30km south of Ella. Diyaluma falls were originally formed by Kirindi Oya, a river that starts near Bandarawela and flows through central Sri Lanka. At 220m tall, Diyaluma Falls in Sri Lanka, is the second-tallest waterfall in the country and a stunning spectacle of nature. When I first saw photos of this waterfall on Instagram I knew I had to visit this spot while I was in Sri Lanka. The winding Punagala Oya stream strings together a series of gorgeous natural pools, before pouring over a sheer cliff face and dropping into the abyss. The waterfall, locally known as Uda Diyaluma, is located around 40km south of Ella, making it the perfect day trip if you’re staying in this small mountainside town.
