Serenity. This is how you will feel when you stay here. They say home is where the heart is. This place has a lot of heart in what they do and how they do it! The Manager, the Chef, and the Staff are all so wonderful and a great example of the Sri Lankan welcoming & hospitality culture. The room was great, comfortable, clean, with AC, with mosquito nets, and a shower with hot water. Breakfast was always delicious – and the Chef liked to surprise us with some new Sri Lankan dished (he would also come to chat about them). Would highly recommend staying at this retreat in Unawatuna. The Staff always arranged the Tuk Tul’s for us and made it convenient for us to just relax and enjoy. Which by the way, don’t forget to enjoy the pool! The great thing about accommodations in Sri Lanka is majority of them are guest houses, and a few small hotels, and because of this we were able to directly support local business owners. Everywhere we stayed we had breakfast included – it was both convenient and delicious. The hosts were always flexible on offering continental or local breakfast options. The hosts are what made our stay in Sri Lanka both comfortable and memorable. They were always aiming to accommodate your needs, making sure you were as comfortable as you can be with what they have to offer – they have been great examples of the wonderful hospitality you hear about in Sri Lanka. They (along with the Tuk Tuk drivers) are also a wealth of information, don’t underestimate them, and feel free to ask about anything and everything.

Beautiful accommodation. Food was cooked really well and adjustments were continuously made and remembered in regards to preferences. Lovely clean pool and inside of hotel. Manager was extremely helpful and always available. Wi-fi was a bit hit and miss, although the team tried to rectify this without being asked, there were good days and very bad days of connection. The room was lovely, steps down into the bedspace area.. we had a swing at the back through the doors behind the bed with space and a balcony with table and chairs to the side. TV, fridge freezer with ice cube tray, desk with chair, mirror and light, air conditioning and poster bed with netting and a bedside table with lamps on either side. Outside the rooms there were plenty of seating areas. Lovely lovely time there!

Wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of town life. Tropical Retreat was a great base for our 5 days in the Galle district, the staff were just so helpful and the breakfast set us up for the day. Dalawalla (our favorite) and Unawatuna beaches are a short tuk tuk ride away as is Galle Fort.

😠 I visited the hotel 3 times. One is a family is trip. Other two are company trips. What I noticed during the trips was staff is not well--trained according to 5 star standards. Specially in co-operate events we could see less number of staff members to handle restaurant chaos. Not kid friendly. For...
