Galle Mahamevnawa Meditation Hermitage was founded on 2008-10-09. Located in a plain land in a beautiful rural environment away from the crowded environment, this hermitage provides many great religious services in the area. In particular, through this asapuwa, a wide spread of Dhamma is carried out by contacting the educational institutions of Galle city, and through this, a great task is done in order to enlighten the lives of young children with Dhamma. This holy place consists of a beautiful Bodhi wall, 13 chambers for the abode of pious monks and a spacious Dharma hall. A great Chaitya King named Sri Shakyaputra Maha Kassapa Maha Saya also resides in this holy place. The dates of the programs at the Galle Mahamevnawa meditation hermitage Seela meditation program on Pun Poho:- Every Pun Poho day at 10 am. 6:00 to 12:00 p.m. till 8.00. Children's Sadhaam Program:- Every Pun Poho day at 10 am. 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. till 3.00 Youth Dhamma Program:- On the second Sunday of every month at 12:00 AM. 8.00 to 12.00 How to get to the hermitage. You can reach this holy place by walking for about 500m on the narrow path to the left from the Malagoda junction, which is about 8km from Galle city on the Imaduwa road.

Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero is the founder of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery. He was ordained on 26 March 1979 at the age of 17,  under Dambagssare Sumedhankara Thero and Dikwelle Pannananda Thero at Seruwavila. He received a traditional Buddhist academic education and entered the University of Sri Jayawardenepura. Having understood the inability to achieve what he wanted in a university, he quit and started visiting meditation centres and hermitages. His deep practices of meditation and the understanding of buddhist philosophy led him to start up his own buddhist monastery, Mahamevnawa in 1999 under the guidance of Kotapola Amarakitti Thero, in Waduwava, Polgahawela.

Take more time to stay here ,So you can refresh your mind set.Attend to the religious workshops and listen to the blessed instructions . I recommend a full day stay . Please make sure call them prior to visit so that you can have an idea of their programme schedule. In Sri Lanka this is the place for true Buddhism. Every Poya Day there are separate Dhamma program for children and adults. Lot of quality Dhamma books are available for sale.
