We did the tour with a guide. Early morning is the best to capture these creatures. Take a good camera and lens when you are going for the trip as you would not want to miss out on these amazing clicks.

Every single time I travel, I fall in love with my Sri Lanka a bit more. Close to Yala, sharing the southern coastline, Bundala is a beautiful national park with fewer animals and safari jeeps. Still, definitely worth the travel for the landscape it offers. Very much like the Yala Block 5 in that it is quiet, creepy and utterly serene. We spotted many many birds, crocodiles, foxes, elephants, butterflies, rabbits, peacocks, monkeys, etc. I love that there is less traffic and noise here. Lots of water bodies. The coast is gorgeous.

It’s a Ramsar Wetland Reserve and a National Park, famous for migrant birds and elephants. Salterns boarding the park and sand dunes are another attraction. Safari jeeps available at the Bundala junction those who desire to hire. If you are a birder plenty to enjoy.

It has lot of birds. I didn't get to see elephants. We two spent 4000 LKR for around 3hrs safari. You could reduce amount of you have more people for the Jeep. Make sure to have a lens with great reach if you want to shoot birdies by camera

A world renowned wintering ground for migratory water birds, located in the low country dry zone. Popular for bird watching and wild elephants. Declared as a National Park in 1993 and a Ramsar Wetland in 1990 - the 487th in the list of global wetlands under the International Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention - named after the Iranian city of Ramsar, where the convention was signed in 1971). The Park was designated as a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, the fourth in Sri Lanka. There are open campsites operated by Department of Wildlife and a holiday bungalow owned by Lanka Salt Ltd. Park visits are allowed in safari jeeps or own vehicles, a guide will accompany you either way. The park opens at 6am and it will take at least a half a day to roam around. There are helpful and knowledgeable wildlife officers at the information center who will provide all the details you need to know about the park and wildlife in general. 'Madhura' the officer who spoke with us was exceptional. Highly recommended to visit at least the information center if you don't have time to surf through the park.

Much smaller and less visited that nearby Yala but a must visit for bird watchers and nature lovers. We saw a wide selection of birds and wildlife, and some really rare species. Much more relaxed safari with a very helpful guide and spotter with binoculars who joined us. Really enjoyed it, but don’t expect to see leopards here, this one is for the bird lovers.

This park is 1 km away from my house and it is very beautiful. The sun is very hot between April and September. Many tourist birds can see many animals that have never been seen before. If you come in December, you can see many birds. There are three or four elephants on the side of the road in the evening, so don't disturb them. Don't litter the other park.

Amazing place to spot a variety of native and migratory birds. That one day I visited it rained in Hambantota but I managed to spot many birds. I recommend you book a safari before hand. Try Bundala safari with Srimal. He had a very good rating and he was great. He and his brother- in - law helped us spot many birds and animals. I would highly recommend Bundala safari by Srimal.

Amazing experience! We saw crocodiles, peacocks, monkeys, and a lot of birds.. The nature is beautiful, not a lot of other jeeps around and our tour guide, chaminda, was so sweet and had a lot to tell about the park and what we saw. The tour lasted 3 hours and he really took the time for us we had a nice cup of tea and slice if cake to start the day as well!! We went for a lobster breakfast after the tour at his place made by his wife. Best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka..

Bundala national park is a well-known park for endemic and non-endemic birds. Other than birds you will be able to see several animal species as well. Among them elephants, mongoose, hares are famous. If you have a normal off-road vehicle you can use it to go around the park. Else you will have to go ahead and rent a jeep. A jeep ride will go for around 3 hours. You can see many animals if you come early in the morning or in the evening. There is also a small research centre on the park premises.

It's one of the reputed hotspots for bird watching in Sri Lanka where a larger number of local and migrant birds can be observed. Located in the South East coast of Sri Lanka this National park is sharing its east border with Yala National Park and provides shelter for large Mammals(elephants, wild bears), Amphibians and Reptiles. In the outskirts of the park few Hotels with basic facilities are there but a foriegn tourist can easily reside at Tissamaharama which is a more convenient tourist destination and reach this park in 20 minutes.

This park is mostly popular among the bird watchers as it is a good place to observe both forest birds and water birds. It is best to visit during the migratory period and many vagrant birds have been recorded here. It is not a place to observe mammals though. You will not find leopard or sloth bear here. Even spotted deer or Wild Boar is not very commonly seen. In some days Elephants may be there but it is also very rare. You have to enter the park with a Guide provided by the Department of Wildlife. There is a nice view of the lagoon from the ticket counter area.

This national park and wetland sanctuary, with its dunes, lagoons, and large freshwater bodies of water, is one of the world's best places to visit for bird-watching. There are many species of birds here. some are endemic to Sri Lanka. Many of the birds migrate here seasonally from as far away as Siberia. Aside from the birds there are many crocodiles, which like to eat the birds, as well as a large population of elephants. The beaches are a popular place for four of Sri Lanka's five species of sea turtles to lay their eggs. The Bundala park area is along the southern Sri Lankan coastline between Kirinda and Hambantota.

Bundala National Park is a universally significant wintering ground for transient water birds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbors 197 types of birds, the feature being the more prominent flamingo, which relocate in huge herds. Bundala was assigned an untamed life safe-haven in 1969 and redesignated to a public park on 4 January 1993. In 1991 Bundala turned into the principal wetland to be proclaimed as a Ramsar site in Sri Lanka. In 2005 the public park was assigned as a biosphere save by UNESCO, the fourth biosphere hold in Sri Lanka. The public park is arranged 245 kilometers (152 mi) southeast of Colombo.

The Bundala national park is one of the smaller parks. It's very beautiful wetland with a lot of birds, Buffalo and crocodiles to watch. The saltwater crocodiles there are really big ones so that's really worth a visit. Unfortunately the park management is very poor and that means the whole park is in a bad condition. More and more people build houses in the protected area and cut down trees to grow rice in the paddy fields. Another thing is halve of the land was given to a damn salt company without the public knowing it. But anyway please visit the park, because it's very calm there and that's not only beautiful for us tourists, when we are there without hundreds of other Jeeps like in Block 1 of Yala, but also gives Poachers the freedom to hunt everything they like. Some more Eyes in that park would really help this park.

I can't recommend this place enough. Must see for anyone with an interest in birdwatching. It seems that nowadays (post COVID and the economic crisis in Sri Lanka) Bundala gets barely any visitors, and any travellers to the area are encouraged to visit Yala instead - which means you have a good chance of not encountering any other visitors! This morning we were the only jeep there. It's a stunning area of wetlands and coastline. The guide who came with us was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out lots of new bird species, with some first migrants starting to appear too. There were also lots of crocodiles, monkeys, rodents and lizards, all interesting to see. It's 100% worth visiting not only for the nature, but also to support the knowledgeable and experienced guides who work there and struggle to make a living with the low numbers of visitors.

The Bundala National Park & wetlands is considered to be the 1st Ramsa wetland kn Sri Lanka . One can find many local as well as migrating birds in the park depending on the time you visit. Going early morning or late evening would be more preferable if you are planning bird watching. Other than birds there are many mammalian & reptile species too. The park is open from 6am-6pm.

(Translated by Google) The area was declared a wildlife sanctuary on December 5, 1969 and was upgraded on January 4, 1993 as a national park with an area of 6,216 hectares (24.00 sq mi). However, in 2004, the park was remodeled and the original garden was reduced to 3,698 hectares (14.28 square miles). In 1991, Bundala became the first Ramsar wetland in Sri Lanka. In 2005, UNESCO declared Bundala as a man and biosphere reserve. In January 2006, the area adjoining Bundala was declared as the Wilmanna Sanctuary, covering an area of 3,339.38 hectares (12.8934 sq mi). This area is mainly submerged by the East Wigan-grade Hornbende-Biotite Guineas. The climate is in the low-lying dry zone. The average humidity in the area is 80%. The National Park consists of five shallow, brackish lagoons with three salt pots. These are the 520 hectares (2.0 sq mi) Budala Lagoon, the 430 hectares (1.7 sq mi) Embilaka lagoon, the 650 hectares (2.5 sq mi) Malala lagoon, the 390 hectares (1.5 sq mi) Koholankala lagoon and the 260 hectare lagoon. 1.0 square miles). The Koholankala and Mahaleviya have been almost exclusively developed for salt production. The climate is tropical monsoon and the mean annual temperature is 27 ° C (81 ° F). Annual rainfall ranges from May to September with a dry period between 900–1,300 mm (35–51 inches). The elevation of the park extends from 10 meters (33 ft) above sea level. The park was affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The garden had very little damage due to its protection from sand dunes. Bundala National Park has been identified as an important bird area in South Indian and Sri Lankan wetlands. There are 324 vertebrate species in the national park, including 32 fish, 15 amphibian species, 48 reptile species, 197 birds and 32 mammals. There are 52 butterfly species among the Aprus. Bundala's wetland habitat is home to about 100 species of water birds, half of which are migratory birds. Of the 197 aircraft species, 58 are migratory species. The National Birding Program (NBRP) was launched in 2005 in Bundala with the assistance of the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Field Ornamental Science Team of Sri Lanka. Full of beautiful birds but also elephants, crocodiles and other animals this is a must see whilst in Sri Lanka. We went on an afternoon...
