We are always very cautious when visiting places like this. The last thing that we want to do is to visit a place masquerading as a rescue centre, but really just a money making tourist trap. After reading the reviews of several similar turtle rescue centres we decided to pay this one a visit. We were welcomed as soon as we arrived and the lady who runs the centre spent a nice amount of time with us. She told us the story behind each turtle, why they were there and also lots of information on turtles in general. She was very friendly and helpful. The tank areas were clean and from what we witnessed, everything seemed genuine. We left feeling that this was a good place where the turtles were being looked after. So if you're looking for a place to see various types of turtles up close, including babies, then we would recommend this one. From what we experienced it would seem that this is one of the good rescue centres.

Well, to be honest, we expected more. I was made aware of this hatchery by a well-known YouTuber. Back then, a few years ago, it was much cheaper. Now you're paying an exorbitant amount. It cost us 2000 rupees per person “entrance”. The lady at the front desk was terrible. Very unfriendly, no greeting and immediately pointed to the donation to be sure to pay! Afterwards she gave us a short report about the turtles, which was less than two sentences, really not even two sentences. The worst outrage is the price for freeing the baby turtles. A whopping 5000 rupees per baby turtle... we found out afterwards that it would be free in other Hatchery's. So in our opinion you can save your money. The boldest thing was that the woman only smiled when she saw our money bag. She then hugged my fiancée and pointed out the donation box. To be honest, I don't even think that all the money, which is a lot by Sri Lankan standards, is spent on turtle conservation, which is what they claim. Sooooo many people have been there and it still looks the same for years. Message to the owners: Shame on you for ripping off white tourists. Karma exists.

That was an amazing experience!! A lot of thanks to the lovely lady who was very polite and nice to talk to! She did a quick walk through the pools with turtles for us and told each one’s rescue story - it was really interesting. Other than that, we were lucky to see recently hatched turtles and released two of them into the ocean. Unforgettable! Price: 1000 rs per person

Great place to rescue, treat and help turtles reproduce before releasing them to the water again. Small place but serious effort being put to look after those amazing organisms 🐢 5000 Rupees must be given as a donation when visiting the center. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed stroking the turtles shells.

Wonderful small time hatchery. It was not too crowded. The owner is a funny little lady. She was very considerate and knowledgeable. She seemed to really care about these wonderful beings. I just can’t imagine people hurting them. We really need to take care of our fellow beings. Apparently the main diet for turtles are jelly fish. The turtles end up eating soda can plastic covers thinking it’s a jelly fish! They also end up often on fishing nets. The family enjoyed our time here.

They are doing an incredible job in protecting the sea turtles. Injured turtles are rescued and treated here. They have a hatchery and release the baby turtles to the sea. Worth visiting and it helps them to cover the expenses. The lady was explaining everything very nicely and clearly. You can take the turtles to your hand and see them play. Wonderful experience, and very informative.

The animals are cared for very lovingly. Everything that is earned is invested back into the animals. The woman who runs it is very nice and shows you around. Volunteers can work there, it's very nice to see and you can have nice conversations with them. It is highly recommended. The entrance fee is 2000 rupees per person, which is definitely worth it.

Do not miss this place! We were warmly welcomed and given information about the types of turtles found in Sri Lanka. The place is well maintained and it’s obvious these rescued turtles are very well cared for. It was great to be told the background stories of many of them, and also how eggs are rescued from the beach and hatched. I came away knowing a lot more and grateful for the experience.

Fantastic experience! The kind lady cares a lot about these animals and a visit here really feels like you are helping the turtles too… She let us hold some turtles that were obviously comfortable with us touching them but didn’t allow us to touch those that were a bit vulnerable, very respectful ☺️ We also released baby sea turtles into the ocean which was special. This hatchery is a must-visit in Sri Lanka 💚

Really nice place to visit, especially with kids! These guys do good things, it feels good to support this business. You get to learn about turtles and the challenges they face. Your money will go towards the rehabilitation of turtles who have eaten plastic bags, been hooked by fisherman etc.

The turtles 🐢 are well looked after here. Amazing feeling to touch them. Make a donation as they are doing a great job here! PS and keep your plastic disposals for yourself not for the turtles!!

We had a wonderful experience at the hatchery seeing and also respectfully touching these wonderful animals. The staff there is super friendly and they take very good care. We were also allowed to release some freshly hatched individuals which was a very touching moment. Please only go there if you love animals and pay the utmost respect to these delicate creatures!

Great people doing amazing things. It was heartbreaking to see so many turtles unwell and injured from boats etc. Equally warming to see this hatchery protecting them. Highly recommend and not commercialised for tourism too.

Wonderful initiative with a great team onsite explaining the work of the organisation and human based impacts on different turtle populations. The woman who showed me around was very generous with her time and sharing of information.

Incredible place run by a very sweet woman who clearly cares deeply for the turtles and told us all about them. I had my doubts before going, because I worry about a place like this being exploitative of the turtles, but it seemed entirely legit to me (eg, there was a lot of care and work being put into hatching) and I really did not expect to get up so close to the turtles (I still feel a bit dubious about petting / picking up the smaller turtles but what do I know). Overall, a wonderful experience. 1000 rupees for tourists - well worth it, but be aware that it's quite a small place so you're unlikely to spend more than 15 or 20 minutes there.

Great place. Hoping more help so that the turtles can have even more proper helps. This is a good place so the turtles can have a refuge place and get treated if injured.

A bit hidden, private place runned by a passionate owner who loves animals. You can see turtles all species and sizes, from tiny ones just hatched to old, big ones which need to be taken care of. A great experience and vibe - this place is about animals not tourists!

This place is truly amazing. They do such great work and this is definitely worth a visit. For the entry (2000 rupees per person) they show you around and explain everything about the turtles. We even witnessed baby turtles which we send on their way into the ocean. Great place and great volunteer work!

Great experience seeing the turtles and the team here are doing a great job. There is a hatchery with lots of new baby turtles hatched last night there and they are providing rehabilitation for those turtles injured by nets/boats also.

An amazing place - would highly recommend visiting. 1500 rupees entry fee but so worth it to help the incredible work they do to protect the sea turtles. Very sad to see the injured turtles, but then heartwarming to know they’re being looked after so well. We had a lovely explanation of the sea turtles lifecycle off a lovely man, and the important work they do. We were then allowed to just watch and stroke the turtles shells (which we didn’t realise turtles actually love and they do little dances!) You can spend as much time as you want with the turtles - and the lovely man even drove us home in his tuktuk!

We had an incredible experience! I want to express my gratitude to the kind and courteous lady who guided us on a brief tour of the turtle pools and shared each turtle's rescue story with us. It was truly fascinating. Additionally, we were fortunate enough to witness some newly hatched turtles and even one that hatched right in front of us.

My family and I had a good experience and were guided around by a lovely local lady who explained the process by which they save the turtles and then raise them to a point where they’re able to be released into the ocean. The faculty is very basic much like the other hatchery that I’ve visited in this part of the world. There is a constant reminder that additional funding is required so visitors are encouraged to make additional donations over and above the entrance fee. I would encourage people to visit if for no reason other than to support the work they are doing.

Hi guys, Very good turtle project to help protect and safe the sea water turtles. Great to visit or even volunteer. I did it too and it is a great experience. During the tour the volunteers will tell you about the different kinds and what they are doing like breeding the eggs or saving injured turtles from fish nets or plastic bags. Come visit but please do not touch the turtles!
