Beautiful botanical garden. Even better than peradeniya. There's plenty of places to share a meal inside the garden. It's also ideal to have a picnic. There's varieties of plants including roses, cacti, herbs etc. So peaceful and quiet with a large diverse area to explore.

Hakgala Botanical Garden is situated in the Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka. It's one of the country's five botanical gardens. The garden is renowned for its collection of orchids, roses, and other exotic plants. Established in 1861, Hakgala Botanical Garden is located at an elevation of about 5,400 feet (1,650 meters) above sea level, providing a unique environment for various plant species to thrive. The garden also features a lovely landscape with terraced lawns, flower beds, and scenic views of the surrounding hills. It's a popular tourist destination and a beautiful place to explore for nature lovers and botany enthusiasts.

Hakgala Botanical Garden, Nuwara Eliya For the students studying botany or the researchers in that field this place could be of use but not for a common tourist. I  was there in February and they were either sowing the seeds or planting flower shoots. The rose area was a no entry zone. I tried to look for some birds but nothing could be seen. Only some monkeys were making noise jumping from one branch to another. Yes, a frog was croaking too. The rock garden was a damp squib. It was probably the worst destination I have been to during my Srilanka trip. And the entry ticket they charge - LKR 3000, is a complete rip off. Very disappointing. Not recommended.

Well kept garden in Nuwara Eliya. Must visit place if you come to see Nuwara Eliya. Not very far from Nuwaraeliya town. 10KM as I remember. Not an expensive place. Really nice to spend your day with your family and kids. Kids can have nice time playing in the garden. Plenty of space for kids so nothing you have to worry. The garden is very clean so that is obviously seem unnatural. Seems very artificial place to me. Really not my type. But the evening is really good time to visit here. Parking is available. But the parking is a really big problem. Parking lot is at the exit of the garden. You have to go round to enter the garden like 300 meeters. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

The Hakgala flower garden is one of the most beautiful flowers gardens in Sri Lanka. There are thousands of different colours and varieties of flowers. There are many kinds of roses as well. We visited the garden on December to experience the weather change but it did not affect us because of the sunlight. It was a little cold as well. The best time to visit here is between the months March and April.

Nice place to visit to enjoy the view and be relaxed with flowers hugged from the mist. The season is around April where all the flowers bloom. Still you can enjoy other things for change in off season months. Can spend around 3-4 hours without being bored.

The time of the year we chose was not perfect for flowering plants, however after months and weeks of rain, we had a few good days with sunshine.. Its a lovely place to be even just for a walk around amongst trees, waterfalls and other nature's gifts ... There was a lot of maintenance going on, which was good to see. However the cafeteria was not open, even though it was almost 11 am.. it got crowded throughout the day..

Good place for relaxation and spend some time with family and friends. Safety checks are purely done by the staffs. Nice garden, maintenance is super. Visitors are not allowed to take any polythene or waste wraps inside the park. Highly recommended place as a must visited place around nuwareliya. 👍

Great for nature lovers. Japanese garden area is very beautiful. You can't take your car inside the park, you have to park outside beside the main road. There are golf carts inside which you can rent but those are expensive.

I recently visited the Hakgala Botanical Garden, and I must say that it was an absolutely stunning experience. The garden is located in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by rolling hills and majestic mountains, and is filled with an incredible variety of plant life. Walking through the garden was a feast for the senses. There were vibrant colors everywhere, from the brightly colored flowers to the lush green foliage. The air was filled with the fragrance of the many different plants, and the sounds of birds singing in the trees added to the peaceful ambiance. One of the highlights of the garden was the stunning display of orchids. The collection was breathtaking, and it was amazing to see so many different varieties of these beautiful flowers in one place. Throughout my visit, I was impressed with the upkeep and maintenance of the garden. Everything was clean, well-organized, and clearly labeled, which made it easy to explore and learn about the different plants. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Hakgala Botanical Garden. It's a beautiful and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and it offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of plant life. A delightful destination for a serene experience surrounded by mist-kissed flowers🌼🌻. The best time is April when vibrant blooms abound, but off-season months offer unique attractions. You can spend a satisfying 3-4 hours without a dull moment, 😋enjoying the scenic views and diverse offerings.🪴🌞

The gardens are home to a wide variety of plants, including orchids, ferns, roses, and cacti. There are also several themed gardens, such as the rock garden, water garden, and Japanese garden. I particularly enjoyed the rose garden, which is home to over 1,000 varieties of roses. In addition to the plants, the gardens are also home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and butterflies. I saw several monkeys swinging through the trees and a few birds flitting about. I was also lucky enough to see a butterfly with a wingspan of about 10 centimeters! I spent about 3 hours exploring the gardens and I could have easily spent more time. There is so much to see and do, and it is a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The place is good for relaxing your mind. Be careful if you take kids. There are so many slopes, stairs and ponds. I prefer you to visit in weekdays since there must be a lot of crowd in weekends. There are lot of flora and fauna to identify and study. I think it would not be enough just a day to explore the whole garden. It's very beautiful place. My daughter and wife was so happily hanging around there with me.

Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second largest garden among the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka and is contiguous to Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve, which is the home to a variety of wild life, including bears, monkeys and birds. Situated some 5 kilometers South of Nuwara Eliya, the road to Hakgala along the Badulla road is a pleasant downhill drive, mostly through pine forests. The comfortable cool weather that prevails throughout the year compliments the exotic flora and fauna, creating a true paradise. It boasts thousands of flora species

Hakgala Botanical Garden is currently under a planting phase this summer, making it less ideal for those looking to admire its full floral beauty. If your visit is aimed at viewing the garden's renowned flowers, it might be best to plan for another time.

There Rose Gardens are awesome 😍and available many colors of roses. Keep mind don't touch them and you can smell them. Every flower has a different smell. My favorite smell has the cream color rose. If you go their pls try it. In the top of garden they has another rose garden maintain by a women. She's very kind and familiar. Ask from her how plant roses and what they are doing for look after them. Once she said this like this. " This is also like we look after our kids." Awesome gardening shapes and the garden is very clean. Go and Feel the feeling. If you go on misty days that day was the great day you ever had. This is a large botanical garden. The mountain's are also composed of various beautiful plants and insects and animals unique to Sri Lanka can be seen. One of the best Gardens to visit in Sri Lanka. Unlike other Gardens this garden is on the side of a mountain so the path is steep as in the path goes up and down not smooth flat. They have golf cart for 3 and 7 people. You can take a ride on it if you are not into hiking short on time. We went on May end which is almost the end of the season of flowers but we were still able to see flowers blooming. Rose garden there is a must to visit. Recommended if you want to see and experience the plants and flora of Sri Lanka.

  • 5/5 Ushan W. 9 months ago on Google
Such a nice garden. When We visit It was bloomed with beautiful and varieties of roses. Please do not touch or harm roses if you are reading this. Garden is huge, take a photograph of the map at the entrance. in my perspective Garden is not well maintaining. there are some workers who are doing nothing and sitting around the garden. There are lots of plants those can't see in Sri Lanka. I saw many trees which origins from Australia. Tips: Early morning is the perfect timing to see the garden. Bags are checked by the security at the entrance If you are a foreigner, You have to pay high price than a local .

First go there when it is the season (April). If not then there is nothing much to see. But if u enjoy the feeling of being around trees and nature then that's fine. But if u want to enjoy flowers and the beauty of it. Then u must go there in april which is the season period.

Botanicle garden with good variety of flora and fauna, some of which are native. Very well maintained, quite impressive landscaping and you could be spending good 2 to 3 hours exploring and walking around this place, it's very large and diverse. Although you can not bring any polythene or wrappers it's a good place to have a picnic too. There are some huts too. Tickets could be 2000LKR, but well worth it.
