What a beautiful place, quite different from the last time i had visited, which make sense considering it was over 15 years ago or so. I know that the Hikkaduwa beach is a popular tourist spot, but I was still surprised to see that there were more foreigners at the beach than locals. For sure, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. Besides just admiring and swimming in its clean crystal clear water, you can also snorkel, scuba dive, surf or go on boat rides to look at corals. Also, if you are lucky, you'd be able to see some sea turtles in the ocean shores, like i did. I also saw people feed seaweed & play with the turtles, which the turtles didn't seem to mind at all, they were so calm! A moment to remember.

I enjoyed snorkeling here: there's lots of corals and many different kinds of beautiful fish to look at. You can find some garbage here and there but it's mostly clean.

Hikkaduwa Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Sri Lanka. It is a beach that attracts not only Sri Lankans but also foreigners. Coral reefs are one of the main attractions of this beach. Best beach for sea baths, snorkeling and scuba diving. Highly recommended for families.

Hikkaduwa Beach can be very busy with tourists but they seem to congregate in one area, if you walk up the beach you can find solitude. There are restaurants that sit back along the beach which are great places to eat and drink and get out of the sun. There are turtles that are hand fed with seaweed by local traders to encourage the turtles into shallow water for the tourists to see. The tourists that I saw were manhandling the turtles which was horrible. The sand is clean and the sea has good waves for surfers, there are surf shop where you can get lessons and rent boards and equipment.

Only 90 minutes from Colombo, this beach is all about water sports, surfing, bodyboarding, snorkeling, and scuba diving. All the gear is easily available for rent from one of the beachfront stands. It's one of the country's best surfing areas, with the best waves between November and March. The beach is large, so it never feels too crowded. There are a lot of beachfront stands selling all kinds of delicious local street food and a good number of small hotels and guesthouses if you want to stay overnight. It's also known for its coral. The Hikkaduwa Coral Sanctuary is a preserved marine area and part of Hikkaduwa National Park, located just off the shoreline. It was created to protect the area's coral reefs and educate visitors about coral.

Hikkaduwa beach is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka, known for its stunning coastline, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant atmosphere. During my visit, I was captivated by the beautiful stretch of sandy beach and the various water activities available, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing. The beach boasts an array of restaurants and bars, offering delicious seafood and refreshing beverages, perfect for beachgoers looking to unwind and enjoy the local cuisine. Moreover, the beach's lively ambiance, with live music and beach parties, adds to the overall appeal, making it an ideal spot for young travelers seeking a lively nightlife. However, I did notice that the beach can get crowded during peak tourist seasons, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Additionally, some areas of the beach were less clean than others, and it would be great if the authorities could put in more effort to maintain the cleanliness of the entire beach area. Overall, Hikkaduwa beach offers a delightful beach experience with its picturesque views, various water sports, and lively atmosphere. Despite the crowds and cleanliness concerns, it remains a must-visit destination for beach enthusiasts and those looking to soak up the sun while enjoying the vibrant coastal culture of Sri Lanka.

Hikkaduwa is a modest community on the south shore of Sri Lanka situated in the Southern Province, around 17 km (11 mi) north-west of Galle and 98 km (61 mi) south of Colombo. The name Hikkaduwa is thought to have been gotten from the two words Sip Kaduwa, with Sip being the more limited form of Shilpaya which alludes to information in Sinhalese and Kaduwa which implies blade. It is accepted in this manner that the name Hikkaduwa implies blade of information. Then again it implies coral or shell wilderness.

Famous for its long sandy beach, west-coast Hikkaduwa also boasts good waves for surfers, reefs for snorkelers and divers, plus sand-side hotels, restaurants, and bars.
