WOW. A piece of European history right on the coast in Sri Lanka. Just like the walled cities of Croatia...great shops and lovely hotels. So much interesting stuff and history. A must see.

Very nice historical area inside the galle fort. Must visit place for tourists if you are interested on colonial architecture and historical stuff. Galle fort consists various kinds of older buildings, resorts, church and restaurants. Very attractive view of the Indian ocean from the top of the fort around.

Lovely small town in the fort surround by beaches. The wall, clock tower and lighthouse and buildings are nice preserved. It seemed like walk in old time when Portuguese and Dutch occupied. Some houses open to be cafe, restaurant, hotel and shops. Walking on the wall to see ocean view. Walking around the town spends 1-2 hours.

Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 432 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. Galle provides an outstanding example of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions. The most salient feature is the use of European models adapted by local manpower to the geological, climatic, historical, and cultural conditions of Sri Lanka.

Good place to hang around. Nicely done up the area with landscaping and trees. Shelter in the side is nicely located beneath tree canopy. Bugs tree behind the shelter adds beauty in to the place.

One of the best places to have a mini outdoor concert or food festival in Galle. I hope that any even hold at this location could be more successful if the organizers can arrange a proper parking facility nearby.
