Not much a variety of fruits available. Prices are quite high indeed that's the situation in all over the country. However, you can buy fruits as well as fresh flowers if you visit the market. Must get experience if you are visiting Galle.

The Old Dutch Market is in a 300-year-old colonial-style building, but the origins of its date of opening are quite blurry; it is believed to have opened 300 years ago or in the late 19th century. The marketplace suffered damage during the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. Consequently, the place was restored by BASF, a famous German chemical company. A stopover at Old Dutch market is incomplete without buying tropical fruits that the country is known for such as wood-apple, soursop, rambutan, bananas, durian and mangosteen. The adjoining fish market and spice stalls are also worth a visit. Tourists who have enrolled for cookery classes in the town are typically suggested to accompany chefs for a visit to the market. The best time to visit the Old Dutch Market is before the afternoon to purchase the freshest produce of the day.

Expensive and not worthy of what you paid. So many places near Galle better than this to find fresh fruits.

Avoid this 'market' if you are a tourist🙂 If you are white, then prices are ridiculous! It is easier and much much cheaper to buy the same fruits at some local fruit shop, or in the supermarket.

The best fresh fruits. Go all the way in and turn right to get the most variety at the best prices. The stalls right in front charge a bit of a premium

😠 Beware of Scammers!!! Do not visit the spice market at Main Road. Friendly locals approach you pretending they want to show you their culture and some special local places. They tell you that they buy their stuff here too. Cheap price, cheap price. In reality this is just a scam. They lie to you. T...
