I think this is an ancient Dutch House and now turned into a stay. A really good place situated very closer to the Galle town and fort.

Our stay at The Sun House in Galle City was a delight! Traveling with friends, we booked three rooms, each as beautiful and conveniently located as the next. The quaint charm of the small pool added a refreshing touch to our experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the diverse food options were a culinary treat. A standout was the Rice and Curry with fresh fish—a flavorful and authentic delight. The Sun House is a perfect choice for those seeking both beauty and convenience, with a touch of culinary excellence.

The Sun House in Galle City, a charming colonial building dating back to 1860, offers a delightful blend of history and comfort. Our stay in the Merchant’s room provided a glimpse into the past, coupled with a stunning garden view. The warmth and friendliness of the staff added to the overall experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The culinary offerings were exceptional, with a standout being the delicious steak sandwich—a true gastronomic delight. The Sun House is a perfect retreat for those seeking a unique blend of history, hospitality, and culinary excellence. A highly recommended haven in Galle City!

I cannot recommend the Sun House highly enough. It is effortlessly tasteful and peaceful. Despite being only a 5 min walk from Galle Fort, the Sun House avoids the hubbub of the town. We sat out on the balcony and watched the purple-faced leaf monkeys and many beautiful birds (woodpeckers/kingfishers/ barbets, orioles etc etc.) each morning. The staff headed up by wonderful owners Millie and Tim were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They helped us book cricket tickets, arranged a beautiful candle lit birthday meal and sent us off with a delicious packed breakfast for our 5am whale watching. The food was the best that we’ve had in Sri Lanka- especially the cuttlefish! Truly a unique stay.

Beautiful, relaxing and classy. A wonderful place to spend a few days, especially in the library room.

Restaurant: Very expensive,.bland set menu. We visited on a whim from Fort. The guests may find the colonial settings comforting amongst the hub bub, we found them delightful if not somewhat anachronous. Nothing made up for the dull food that wouldn't pass muster for price or taste almost anywhere in the world let alone among the fragrant delights of sri Lanka.

We ended up here when we where looking for a nice place to eat during christmas and the Sun House Had some pretty good reviews at trip advisor so we thought we should give it a try. The location has a very colonial vibe which is nice if you’re into that kind of stuff and the guests seemed mostly to be retired rich brits. As for the food, the didn’t have any prices on the website but when we got there we found out that a 3 course menu costed 6500 rupees per person excluding drinks which is about 4 times the price you pay for a decent dinner anywhere in Sri Lanka. We decided that it might be worth it but I must say we were quite disappointed. The dinner was slightly below average standard western dining with very little finesse to it, it wasn’t terrible but at that price you would at least expect something remotely exciting. I’ve eaten at more than a dozen michelin star restaurants so I know what Im talking about. Would not recommend a visit to this place unless your rich enough to not care what you spend money on.

Perfect boutique hotel. Really beautiful historical building, with an amazing staff. The rooms are different, full of nice details! I really liked the way they present drinking water in the room instead of using plastic bottles. The staff is making sure you have an unforgettable experience, specially Janakatuc. The breakfast in the morning is all an experience. My only critic is if you want Sri Lankan breakfast you need to order it the night before and we were not aware of that! I had some canadian toasts instead and they were amazing!!

What an amazing place! Incredibly idyllic. Relaxed library, great bar, splash pool, relaxing courtyard. We were able to comfortably sleep 2 adults & 2 children (7&8). Great beds! Best bathroom we had throughout our trip with a large bath! Food was great. Kids loved the large collection of books and National Geographic magazines. A short stroll to town, shops/markets and Galle Fort. Surf beaches, whale tours and turtle conservations a drive away. Highly highly highly recommended!!

Very pleasant old style bungalow converted into a small hotel. Old style decor but with all the essential amenities, including air-conditioned guestrooms, swimming pool. Very pleasant gardens or courtyards on either side of the Bungalow. We were a group of 15 and the staff were pleasant & responsive.

😠 Walked in for dinner with friends at around 8.30 pm and was warmly welcomed. Our orders were taken promptly but then everything went downhill from there. Waited around 40 minutes till we decided to ask a waitstaff for an update on our food and we were assured that we would get it soon. After this we...
