Starting my Lecce visit off with Museo Faggiano was an excellent choice to learn some history! The owner and his son were excellent guides…explaining the story about how this former house became a family-run museum. There is so much passion to share their story, culture, Lecce’s history, and love for this project. I really enjoyed it!

We found this Museum by chance and it was probably the highlight of our trip to Lecce. It’s a fascinating house that the family bought to start a restaurant and through renovations discovered it’s incredible history and decided to excavate it together with Archaeologists and turn it into the museum it is today. We met one of the sons and the father who gave us such an interesting and funny personal insight. Really genuine , relatable and nice people. The house is steeped in history with tunnels and crevices some of which goes back 1500 years. Thoroughly recommend and well worth a visit.

Lovely idea for a museum. A family started what they thought it would be a small renovation, in order to transform their family home into a trattoria, and they discovered centuries of history. Some of the objects they discovered were thousands of years old, from before the Romans were there. Really worth visiting to learn more about the history of the region.

We really enjoyed visiting this museum. The ladies who greeted us were nice and friendly. They gave us a booklet that explained the exhibits. I found it fascinating. From the tombs they uncovered , the medieval walls, and the Knight's Templar frescos, it was truly a walk through history!

Fascinating private museum run by a family who discovered ruins beneath their home while renovating to open a restaurant. We met one of the sons who did the excavating. He was so kind and explained to us the back story of how the museum came to be and the discoveries his family made over several years. They have written guides in various languages and there are many floors and rooms to discover. Great place to spend some time in Lecce

Wow… we read the story of the museum on the plaque outside which describes how the museum was the work of one man and his sons. When we stepped inside we did not expect to be given a tour by Marco, one of the sons we were just reading about – very surreal! This museum is full of real archeological features from a wide variety of time periods, and there was a helpful information sheet in English to explain everything. It starts in the basement levels and then proceeds upstairs into the house where some of the artefacts found are kept. There is also a open-air medieval watch tower to climb. Overall we spent about an hour here and loved it. Well worth the admission price!

A museum with an incredible story of family discoveries! We were very well received by Marco and André, brothers who participated in the excavations. It's worth visiting and checking out the history and richness discovered from three different historical periods!

One of the most interesting museums I've ever visited! It is unbelievable the history that a small house can hide! Just great!

Fascinating experience, well worth a visit, and excellent value. A Faggiano family member kindly told us the story of how the museum came about. Some reviews mention some slightly claustrophobic areas, but you can pick and choose which rooms to explore in the house.

This museum was one of my favorite parts of my time in Lecce. The owner spent so much time explaining the history to me and his clear passion and knowledge was incredible. I was one of the only people there which made the experience like a private tour. The space is so rich which history. Highly recommend this. Thank you!

Remarkable story of a modern renovation finding layers of history in a private home, and well presented through the guidebook, cut-outs, and displays.

This is a don’t miss stop on any trip to Lecce. The amount of history in this one spot is amazing and the staff person went above and beyond the self guided tour by giving us lots of extra facts that made the tour even more enjoyable and interesting.

Fascinating insight into the history of a property that has seen countless changes during its long existence. The various levels take you back in time over 2000 years, and it really is a gem for anyone who is even vaguely interested in past history. Explanatory folders in multiple languages are very informative. Highly recommended

This is an amazing hidden gem museum. Very helpful and knowledgeable lady welcomed us. There is a suggested route to follow around to see different things and an explanation sheet in different languages. Our daughter enjoyed looking for all the numbers! It's quite an evocative and thought-provoking experience to walk round this unassuming house and think about all the history of the building and the region. Entry price is super cheap too.

Great experience! A man, finds during renovation works archeological evidence and builds his home into a museum! You can see the different layers of this home and get a feeling of how the people lived here through the centurys.

Really fun attraction in Lecce. It does not have the professional tours or audio guides you would get in a bigger museum but it is unique, quirky and very interesting and the staff that are there are really friendly and invested in the place.

One of our favourite places on our trip to Lecce. Very interesting and well-laid out to make it easy to follow. Loved being able to wander around. The self guided tour pages were available in English, which was great. Don't miss seeing this little gem!

The most awesome museum in Lecce. An utter treasure trove. Layer on layer of history in one small area. On absolute must to visit.

Must be fantastic to start digging into your own home an find some much history in the ground....the owners continued digging and ended up with their own museum spanning 2000 years of local history....don't forget to visit this gem in Lecce!

Oh, I have never been in a place like this. Imagine, one day you discover that beneath your house there is 500 years of uncovered history. Super nice staff as well.

  • 5/5 Oliver H. 2 years ago on Google
This is a fascinating curtain on the history of one plot in the ancient city Of Lecce. It is a private enterprise run by the family whose home and restaurant became a tourist attraction. It is quite amateur in its presentation but in many ways that is even more endearing and allows one to discover things oneself rather than everything being on a plate. No visit to Lecce should miss it from neolithic times to the Knights Templar with Greeks Byzantines and Romans in between. It provides a fabulous context to the city's history. If so much can be contained in one property what other undiscovered gems exist in the surrounding area.

Unique opportunity to see the layers of history in Lecce. The museum is a growing work in process and that adds to the charm. Very much a family affair and a personal experience. Excellent value.

One of the best places to appreciate how the people of this region of Italy built and dug/mined their living accommodation over the centuries. Imagine just wanting to replace the flooring in the ground floor and finding that under your feet there's a set of caverns and passages and troughs, dug by previous owners of the house. Entertaining story of how it all came to be found and put on show.

  • 5/5 Marie-Pierre G. 2 years ago on Google
I read about it, and wanted to find it! Easy if you know where it is.. They dont mention it at the tourist office unless you ask! If you are interested in history of the region... It is a MUST. The explanations are clear and inyeresting. The story is fascinating.

We came here on our vacation in Lecce. Marco was very nice and gave us a great introduction into the history of his family's house. Very grateful that they preserved this jewel in the heart of Lecce!

  • 5/5 Andrea M. 2 years ago on Google
Very interesting place, I really recommend this place if you are around. I stopped by and I got one of the brothers that explained me the story of the project. Nice people, and they have information in every language. Even in Dutch. 😊 You learn more about the history and archeological objects that they found in their house (now a museum/archeological site). The brothers digd everything themselves. It's not big so perfect to combine with your other plans.

Fascinating museum with how it was accidentally discovered as a result of a plumbing problem in a residential home. We appreciated the time Marco took telling us about the history. The self guided booklet with tour information was very organized and easy to follow. Highly recommend you not miss this wonderful museum.

I was truly amazed by all the history! Really cool little museum. The girl by the entrance was very welcoming and explained part of the history to us. Worth the visit and the money (5 euro per person). They only accept cash so be sure to bring that with you.

What a treat! Fascinating story and archeology. Makes it seem so real - one house through history. Clearly displayed and multilingual intro and guide. Do not miss this.

Fascinating museum, a must see for anyone visiting Lecce. It is very reasonably priced. We met the owner's son there who told us more about the discoveries. It was really amazing to see so many chapters of Lecce's past in one place. Thank you!

Absolutely unique museum showing layers of various historical periods within a single building structure. You can hardly find it in any other museum, and I have seen many. Big credit goes to Faggiano family for preserving all these treasures and opening up to a broader public.
