(Translated by Google) Located next to the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo dei Celestini, it was built between 1659 and 1695 on a project by Giuseppe Zimbalo, then built by Giuseppe Cino and Cesare Penna. The facade has delicate ornamental designs next to the windows and the entrance, with floral points and festoons, and is an example of sober baroque, somewhat rare to see in eighteenth-century Lecce. Once the seat of the Celestine convent, the palace is home to the Government Palace (Prefecture) and the Provincial Administration.

(Translated by Google) On the left of the entrance of Via Umberto I of Palazzo dei Celestini, the façade, in correspondence with the first window, still bears the signs of the fire started during the riot of 25 September 1945 by those who asked for "bread and work". Unfortunately, three demonstrators, Nicola Fatano, Oronzo Zingarelli and Francesco Schifa, died from the shooting of the police placed in charge of the Palazzo della Prefettura. The trace of that day has remained (or has it been left?), Despite the restoration works that have taken place over time, to still remind us of the desperation and desire for redemption of those who had paid heavily for the consequences of the Second World War. It is worth much more than the plaque affixed, only in 2006, in the atrium of the same building.

(Translated by Google) The Palazzo dei Celestini is located on one side next to the Basilica of Santa Croce which, together, form a single complex, and on the other in front of the Villa Comunale. For three centuries it was the seat of the convent of the Celestine fathers and is a baroque monument of Lecce. Built in 1352 as a convent, then demolished and rebuilt starting in 1549, based on a project by Riccardi, to whom we owe the original cloister and the portal of the annexed Basilica of Santa Croce. The major works were carried out in the 1600s. The orders of the facade are divided vertically by pilasters. The façade is enriched by two small loggias on the sides, by numerous windows decorated with elaborate frames and by a frieze decorated with heraldic shields. The entrance portal, placed in the center, has a decoration of cherubs and bunches of fruit. In 1807, the monastery became a government palace. It currently houses the offices of the Prefecture and the Province. The rooms and stairways are very beautiful and well maintained, a little less so are the external walls inside the courtyard. The façade of via Umberto I, next to the Cathedral, is beautiful. To visit.

(Translated by Google) Large and austere rooms inside the building that today houses the offices of the Municipality of Lecce and the province. The wooden ceilings and the drop-shaped chandeliers have an imposing air and perfectly correspond to the style and sobriety of the context. Too bad the other rooms are not visible to the public with frescoes and draperies. (Translated by Google) Supervised by a police officer who played with the children on the passing bicycles, this place has a nice entrance and open space with stairs to the exit with handrails and red carpets that embellish the structure. As you can see from the photos, even the arches are a point of reference from the Leccesi structures (Original) Vigilata da un agente di polizia che giocava coi bambini sulle biciclette che passavano, questo posto Ha un entrata e uno spiazzale comunque carino con delle scale verso l'uscita con passamani e tappeti rossi che abbelliscono la struttura.
