Passing through NM we were looking for a great local place to get breakfast. This place had alot of reviews and looked promising. My thoughts on that, well..."nice try." -Google maps got us there without a problem. - The problem we had though, is not really knowing if we were going into the right door for the restaurant or if it was even open. There would have been no confusion if there was a sign, decal, painted glass, something on the entrance. Instead it's just a dark tinted door and from the outside it looks a little "iffy." ‐We were seated quickly, but right next to the kitchen, it was a little noisy for our liking. ‐Took the waitress about 10 min to get our order but it did come out within 5-8 min of being placed. She did check on us a couple times, even with it being pretty busy. ‐The employees could have been more personable, smile, make us feel welcome to be dinning there, but they just seemed busy and uncaring. - We got the Katy Special, the food was okay, the French toast seemed like it was cooked in a toaster, smothered and served and tasted like I described. The bacon was thick and cooked crispy just like we like it, eggs were eh. -The inside seemed like it had seen better days. Its outdated. Probably hasn't been updated since it saw its opening day. More than a few tables are wobbly, the fix for the restaurant is a rolled up napkin... hey if it works, why not, haha. -After our meal, they brought us our bill. You need to walk to the counter to pay, they do accept cards or cash, and they offer a military discount which is awesome. -Overall, if your sick of fast food and want something local and similar to a run down Dennys. This is the place for you!

Ok ya'all, if you're ever in Gallup I highly recommend you stop by Route 66 Railway Cafe! It was delish! It had good reviews online so we though we'd try it for our last vacation breakfast before heading out of town. Pulled into a packed parking lot so we expected a wait, but no we walked in the door and were seated immediately. The service was amazing by everyone, including our waitress Val. Unlimited coffee refills, great options on the menu and the plates were packed. The food was so delicious. 5 stars for sure!

Excellent restaurant, I enjoyed the meal I ordered. Service was fast, price was far and restaurant was clean. The dining room is limited so it might need to wait a little if the restaurant is busy. I definitely will come back if I am traveling the i40

Listen, I travel all over the United States, and I can say with absolute certainty, that my breakfast here is one of the best I’ve ever had, bar none. From the road in parking lot, it does not look like much, but once you get inside, it’s a different ball game. It was very obvious that this is a local favorite, which is always a good sign. Most of the people seemed to know each other, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how kind they were to strangers like myself. My server was friendly and extremely efficient. She had my coffee to me quickly had taken my order, and had food on the table in less than 10 minutes. The green salsa that she recommended on my enchiladas was fantastic and they are not cheap with the cheese. The eggs were well prepared and the rice and beans were mouthwatering good. As I was on the road and not staying in Gallup, I was not able to try anything else, but I am considering routing through there again just to eat lunch or dinner and see if it’s as good as breakfast was. If you find yourself in Gallup overnight, I’m not sure you could do any better anywhere For breakfast.

We are passing through gallup New Mexico and staying at a hotel down the street. We wanted a restaurant that was close and had great reviews. The Railway café did not disappoint. Incredible food, delivered very fast, exceptionally friendly staff all working very hard. Huge servings great prices. We can personally recommend the French toast, biscuits and gravy all the eggs were great the ham was very yummy. Bacon cooked perfection.

Nice roadside diner with quick access to the interstate. We ordered the two cheese enchiladas and a combo with chicken enchilada, taco, and relleno. The service was good 👍. Food came out quick and hot. The renello was great. The chicken taco and enchilada were a bit bland. The green chili helped them both out. The side of rice was good. The beans were ok. Well we aint in the south no mo'. They don't have sweet tea. Lol Meals come with chips and salsa. The chips are ok, the salsa is good and just a bit spicy, which we like.

Don't get stuffed sopapillas. They don't seem to know what it entails. Sopapillas being stuffed. That being said, this is a good place for breakfast. Green chile cheese enchiladas, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and a tortilla. Also order a side of french toast. Giant iced tea to drink. Sometimes, when busy, you need to leave your name for a table.

The Route 66 Railway Cafe provided a memorable dining experience with its extensive menu and delicious offerings. From mouthwatering burgers paired with sweet potato fries and hashbrowns to satisfying grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese sticks, the food was nothing short of delicious. The cafe’s flexibility in offering breakfast from 8 am to 8 pm allowed for a leisurely morning meal, while the clean bathroom and friendly staff added to the overall positive experience. For food enthusiasts traveling along Route 66, this charming cafe is a must-visit. Truly feels like a hometown diner.

In looking for a place to eat in Gallup, we noticed this restaurant had a lot of cars in the parking lot. It showed us that this was the place to go in town. We had very good, abundant food and great service at Route 66 Railway Cafe. Thank you!

Quaint small restaurant, very popular with the locals. Had to wait in a crowded foyer for 40 minutes. However the food was worth the wait. They serve large portions. My friends shared a breakfast plate. Wait staff was friendly and helpful except for the young man who had a scowl on his face and didn't smile. I will go back. Highly recommend.

My first time eating here. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. Food was delicious. The green chile stew was on point. The salsa had a nice kick to it. Meatloaf was good. Decent quantity and prices. Need to come back and try the breakfast menu. 👍

What a lovely classic diner with very fast service. I got the French Toast, and it was wonderful! Almost candied on the outside, soft in the middle and piping hot. The hash browns and sausage were great too. My dad really liked his breakfast burrito too

Stopped to eat breakfast on a road trip and definitely wasn't disappointed. My brother and I both had the enchiladas with eggs and it came with shredded hashbrowns, beans and a tortilla. It was so delicious! My boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy with shredder hashbrowns and two big sausage links. He said it was amazing! The menu is extensive and everything looked so good. We look forward to stopping by there again next time we are passing through.

Wait to be seated...quickly Prompt pleasant service- Order arrived with lightening speed and my coffee cup never saw the halfway mark. Tasty huevos rancheros even if it was just a little bit soupy. Crispy bacon was perfect. Good atmosphere. Good teamwork there- Even though the place was busy the teamwork is why my coffee cup stayed full.

This place is a true gem about three minutes off of I 40 at exit 22. All of the service staff was extremely friendly, however Stephanie our server was exceptional. The BNSF burrito is out of this world you get 3 eggs and 4 meats included for under $10. I got it with the green chili sauce and hash browns with cheese and sautéed onions. The meal was enough to fill me up for three days. I know it’s a very small factor but the unsweet tea was fantastic, never had to ask for a refill and was offered it to go cup. Truly top-notch service for a roadside diner. Breakfast served all day with a great lunch menu also. Don’t forget to get a cobbler, if you can spare the room or grab once ago as they are all great.

Stopped by recently with my wife on our way to Las Vegas. So glad we picked this place to eat. One of the best burritos I've had in my life. Sure hit the spot. I'll remember if we make the trip again.

It was amazing hands down the best breakfast in gallup. The wait time was accurate, the food was hot, and the service was amazing we had a group of 7. They were short staffed but it was the best food and service we have had in a long time. Thank you so much

Small, dive like restaurant, but that was the charm! Service was amazing!! We just ate breakfast there but everything we got was good! Though cold cereal was on the menu, they were out. But our daughter loved the scrambled eggs and pancake. We both had omelettes. 😋 Place was pretty busy on a Thursday morning at 10am. If you want to get away from chain restaurants, I recommend this place!

We have recently discovered this restaurant and boy are we sure happy we did! Their food is simple, home cooked, well priced and GREAT! Their service is spectacular and it's the first place in a long time that I actually look forward to going to eat at. The hand formed burger is fantastic and you can tell it is a good quality beef they use, you can just taste it. Gotta go, heading to Gallup to Rt. 66!
