We have been to the Athenry Heritage Centre for birthday parties and their annual Christmas event. The staff try their best to make the experience the most enjoyable for the children as possible. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the Athenry Area.

This should be the starting place of your tour of the city, which is really remarkable with a long history. The tour is in a small area within an old church packed full of interesting history and insight from deeply knowledgeable guides. It's also very tangible -they allow you to touch and handle several items like swords and helmets. Try to also make sure to go when the castle itself is open. The heritage center has a restroom/toilet for people taking the tour.

This is a wonderful experience for all the family to become immersed in! We wandered in off the street not knowing what to expect and can honestly say every one of us (mam, dad and children 8 & 9 years) totally enjoyed it! We had just visited the castle (worth a visit too) and a lovely lady there directed us to the heritage centre. We got dressed up (clothing made by our wonderful tour guide no less) and the said wonderful tour guide engaged every one of us with her description of all aspects of life in a medieval town. Then we were brought to try our hand at archery which again we ALL loved, thanks again to the wonderful tour guide. I'm sorry I didn't catch her name. If you're in Athenry or looking for something different, this is worth a visit. Highly recommended.

We went here to visit Santa. It was truly such an enjoyable experience. It was a winter wonderland and both my children (age 10years and 18months) had a ball. The staff were fabulous and the Santa was lovely. Look forward to visiting here again.

Beautiful little heritage museum with really friendly and helpful staff. Everything is brilliantly explained and displayed. Hopefully you'll even get to meet their resident cat too.

Myself and wife had a amazing experience in the Athenry Heritage Centre highly recommended. The staff were just amazing, Mary dressed us up as king & Queen, Helen was our story guide and what a job she did, explained all about ancient History of Athenry. Then Mary brought us out to try the Archery and show us how to use the bow and arrow on a target 🎯 then myself and the wife had a little competition, it was a great experience.

The hostess seemed well informed and enjoyed giving the tour, lots of information and details. The museum was small and seemed too fake though it was used to support the historical aspects. It wasn't quite what I'd expected.

We got to dress up in costumes We were knights ,court jester , peasants and even an excutioner. Then we did the Archery again great fun. Then finished up by doing the maze. A really super day for Adults or children , And its all for the absolutly amazing price of just 5 euro each.

Visited the Athenry Heritage centre today with my family, it was a quite time and we had a tour and place to ourselves which is unusual for them but great for us, we had a great day, as well as learning about the history of the very preserved town and what it would have looked like, we got to dress up and try our hand at archery 🏹 the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and I would recommend this for all ages ,especially families .

Had a delightful time here and learned about the area. Also learned some great trivia stuff about old saying. Worth the price I’d admission.

The tour here is extremely well-done and very informative. The tour guides are wonderful and you can really see how passionate they are about the local history. This is a must-visit for anyone wanting to learn about Irish history

My family had such a wonderful experience here. The staff were super friendly and informative. The dressing up was so much fun, and the tour was very informative and patient as we needed to translate from English for our youngest to understand. We also had an archery "contest". In general, the kids and parents were thrilled. The whole experience is about 1.5 hours. Parking is by meter (only coins!) in the town square next to the heritage center. We didn't plan to go to the castle as well, but the admission was free, so we hoped in to have a look.
