Short version: The best place in the world. Intermediate version: My wife and I really needed a break and looked for something that would not be overcrowed, as it was the crowd we wanted to escape from. The Gambia was high on the list as we were told that it is definetly not a place for show-offs. We found Leo's on google earth, liked a lot what we saw, sent an email, got a very encouraging response and booked a room for us. Well, there was absoltely nothing to complain about, much more, there was a lot to come back again as soon as possible: The deeply friendly and attentive staff, the stunning architecure of the hotel, its location 120 seconds walking distance to the beach, the amazing cooking, all the awesome artwork found around the bar, the great pool, and in the huge garden; we could continue for some 50 lines... Interestingly, the hotel seems to attract similar people as everyone was amazingly friendly, and much in contrast to what we have planned, we teamed up, spend nights toghether with other guests, and even stayed in contact. We are still speachless as to how Nina and Alois, the incorporators and owners of Leo's, managed to build and run this paradies in the middle of nowhere. It is highly recommended. Ingo und Claudia

Gambia is well known for its tourism and hospitality business and everywhere you turn, you find beach residences and hotels all around but not many can boast of the qualities of the Leoโ€™s Beach Hotel. If you need an accommodation in a quiet and sane environment but with access to the beach and all the other fun things then this is your best choice. The hotel is owned and managed by a couple from Europe and they have done a good job to keep it in good shape. Itโ€™s not a very big property but they run the place with a small team of very well trained staff. Because of power issues in Gambia, the hotel is powered by Solar energy to guarantee 24*7 power supply. I really enjoyed the meals, the swimming and I enjoyed running by the beach side every morning.

I stumbled on Leos on Instagram and it definitely did not disappoint. I fell in love with the Leos the moment i walked in. It is absolutely a fresh of breath air. The views were breathtaking, the environment was so secure and clean, the staff and the owners were friendly and on top of all everything really worked!!! Leos is definitely the BEST hotel in the Gambia, take it from a Gambian native!!

Everything about our stay was fabulous! Beautiful and spacious rooms, with a large balcony overlooking the pool. And you can see the beach beyond the gardens. Itโ€™s a boutique hotel and not a resort, which means that it was a lot more intimate and cozy. The gardens are beautiful, and just beyond is Brufut beach, which was so quiet and nice (gets busy if you walk in either direction for about ten minutes). Note though that there is not much to do outside of the hotel that is walking distance, but they have a good team of taxi drivers who are all happy to help.

Great Hotel and friendly staff. Perfect place to relax. This is our first choice when visiting Gambia. We had a fantastic Christmas and the special Christmas Eve menu was superb. Thanks to Nina, Alois and their fantastic staff. Special mention to the gardeners for the great work they do and Fatu who makes a wicked Bloody Mary.

Best diner this week. Austrian owners working with a gifted Gambian chef and team. Location is a lush, so is the menu. Very relaxed setting and gorgeous boutique hotel connected. Itโ€™s a bit further out but worth the drive. Forget the strip and dine her instead.

We have been travelling to the Gambia for many years, however we have only stayed at Leo's Beach Hotel in February 2017 & January 2019. Leo's Boutique Hotel is the very best Hotel in the Gambia. The owners Alois & Nina are always on hand & their cat Rima is an adorable addition. Their Taxi Driver Doudou who collected us from the airport was very polite & friendly. The attention to detail in this Hotel is absolutely amazing. The decor is modern & spotlessly clean. The food is 1st Class & excellent. We cannot praise this Hotel & its owners highly enough. Although this is only our second visit to Leo's, it will certainly not be our last. The room has everything that you could want, a spacious bathroom, comfortable beds, plenty of storage space & a balcony facing the Atlantic Ocean, which is perfect for watching the sunset. Both the pool & the gardens are immaculately maintained. Alois & Nina have created the perfect oasis. We really needed this holiday & we were able to totally relax. This beautiful Hotel, the polite & friendly staff & our wonderful hosts made it a perfect holiday for us. Thank you once again Alois & Nina, we very much look forward to seeing you all again soon (especially Rima!)

A Place of Peace and Tranquility My wife and I spent a lovely two weeks at Leoโ€™s beach hotel and restaurant in The Gambia, the peace and tranquility was only broken, as we laid in the glorious 32 degree sunshine, by the gentle lapping of waves on the beach and the sound of birds in their beautifully manicured garden. The Austrian owners, Nina and Alois, live at the hotel and so are always available to help and assist in any way they can. In addition were the wonderful team of Gambian locals who were always on hand whenever a drink was needed or to assist in the lovely restaurant. Our accommodation was everything you could wish for, a place of coolness when time away from the heat was needed, with air conditioning and ceiling fans. The two bedrooms have large double beds, which could also be used as two singles. There was a lounge with TV, fridge/mini bar, HiFi system with speakers, a safe, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, hairdryer, table and chairs, and a large comfortable sofa. The room ceilings were higher than standard rooms, the bedroom and lounge have large, full-height patio doors, with mosquito netting if you would like to keep them open. There was a well appointed bathroom, double sinks, toilet and large shower area. There was free WiFi throughout the hotel which was pretty good, although it did occasionally drop out. I am a wheelchair user, they put us in the ground-floor suite, they improved the access to the room with the installation of a small ramp, as there was a slight step at the door. The room is large enough to handle a wheelchair, the shower wet room is also large enough to be accessible in a wheelchair, if this is needed. I was provided with a plastic shower chair which was very helpful for me. The only issue is that access to the pool and gardens is down one step, we managed to carry the wheelchair down this, if staff members were around they always assisted. The room also benefits from its own patio area with a table and chairs and two sun beds. We elected to have half board, the restaurant was very good, breakfast was continental, although hot food like eggs were available to purchase. The evening meal was a starter, main course and dessert taken from the restaurantโ€™s menu. The food was very good, it was a mix of Mediterranean and Gambian cuisine, no buffets at this restaurant! Whilst the restaurant is open to non-residents, it was never busy and the staff were very attentive. To keep the small boutique feel of the hotel non-residents are not allowed in the pool and garden area, children are also not allowed which, together with the small number of rooms, makes this a very peaceful location. There were plenty of sun beds and deck chairs, with towels provided. The hotel has lots of African art work which are fascinating, much thought has obviously been given to the way in which the hotel looks, the geometry of the lines that the modern hotel buildings have, followed through to the lines of the pool, patio areas and garden are stunning. Even the chairs and bar stalls have been sourced with an eye for excellent design, the whole hotel has a real specialist boutique-feel. We booked the hotel direct and the flight through the Gambia Experience, the hotel arranged the airport transfers. Overall a lovely holiday if you want to escape the British autumn/winter for some beautiful Gambian sunshine, provided by some wonderful Gambian locals, under the management of Austrian owners Nina and Alois. We have already booked two weeks for next year!!

It is not cheap but for me the best reastaurant in The Gambia. The only issue is to get to the place but the drive is worthy. In addition it is thee only place I dare to have steak tartar in the country.

One of the best places to sit and relax that I've seen so far in the Gambia. Really good service and attention. Hope they keep it up :)
