Abuko nature reserve is one of the most well known nature reserves in The Gambia. It’s frequented by tourists, primary to tertiary students, and even individuals from round about. Though the nature reserve has lost a lot of its reserves, it’s management board is still trying hard to preserve the remnant they’re left with. It’s easily accessible and also free from danger. Cool place to visit.

It was fun while at the reserve. They have a tour guard and the Gambian Police had a station close by and offer you their binoculars for 100 dalasi. The reserve has a rich history but doesn't have a lot of wildlife. It was fun seeing the monkeys play in their natural habitat and jumping over a pool filled with crocodiles. Seeing the hyenas also was fun. I heard their is MOU that another reserve will bring some of its wildlife to the reserve. If this happens then it will be great.

It’s a pretty impressive place, still a shadow of what it used to be. It has monkeys, crocs, hyenas, snakes etc. A perfect place for birdwatchers and for an afternoon with family. The footpaths are beautiful and impressive art is sold around the hyena cages.

Just a walk in a jungle that is close to the street, no crocodiles, some bird, many monkeys, with our guide saying things like “that’s a tree”, “that’s a monkey”... ok is a nice walk in the nature but nothing more, and it ends with the saddest zoo I’ve ever seen

I am not sure why so many good reviews! Small, sad pool where the crocks may be hiding, hyenas in ugly cages that you can enter if you pay, lonely monkey also in a cage. It's a very bad version of a bad zoo attempt! The nature walk is quite pleasant even if you don't see much animal life... But I wish someone told us it's a fake zoo among bushes and we would have skipped this place

We visited and we're very disappointed. The crocodile pool is all overgrown which makes it hard to see them. Our guide was good but our only highlight was seeing the hyenas. Needs money spending on it or it will be a forgotten place.

We quickly realized when arriving in Gambia that Abuko is a nature reserve that isn't running well because of financial reasons. Entry fee was extremely low. We ran out of time to fully experience the entire reserve so we've only seen a part of it. The hike through the park was serene and quite beautiful. The animal cages are basic and that part looks rundown. We hope the park gets the attention it deserves because the place has a lot of potential to be something much better than it is in its current state.

It is a beautiful place but you can tell that the government has not been spending money to care for it. Our guide was very helpful and seeing the animals was interesting. I’d recommend going

Abuko is just an abandoned place with locked up hyenas for up to 20 years. It appears that no one ever cleans or takes care of the place and the government has completely forgotten of its existence. It is very sad to see such a place with huge potential left to thieves asking for donations to put in their pockets. Entrance was 35 dalasi per person. If you're asked to pay more, you're scammed. We visited alone, no guide.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately we did not have a guide and because it is a large park, walking with small children is not convenient. So only visited the center with hyenas. This and probably the whole park needs some maintenance ... (Original) We hadden helaas geen gids en omdat het een groot park is, is wandelen met kleine kinderen niet handig. Dus alleen het centrum met hyena's bezocht. Dit en waarschijnlijk het hele park heeft wat onderhoud nodig...

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately there are hardly any animals to be seen except birds and the caged hyenas and the vultures. There are a few nice spots but most of the trail is uninteresting (Original) Leider sind kaum noch Tiere zu sehen außer Vögel und die eingesperrten Hyänen und die Geier. Es gibt ein paar schöne Stellen aber der meiste Rundweg ist uninteressant

A really beautiful reserve that does really important conservation work. Do rent binoculars and do get a guide to take you round. Make sure you ask lots of questions, once our guide gave up on his set schpeel his passion for his work shone through. The reserve includes one of the last patches of Gambian rainforest. Gambian rainforests are different because the water comes from the ground. Stepping into this section was like stepping into a shower it was so much cooler. Monkeys followed us round but we're polite enough not to steal any snacks.

Quite a lot of signs of neglect, very poor path way. The wildlife doesn't seem to mind though.

(Translated by Google) I don't know how to relate to read opinions being on the spot. Injured hyenas in cages, several monkeys also in cages and .... that's all. + almost an hour walk on a dusty road. I advise against everyone. Probably the worst place I've ever seen on the Senegal-Gambia route (Original) Nie wiem jak odnieść się do przeczytanych opini będąc na miejscu. Pokaleczone hieny w klatkach, kilka małp też w klatkach i.... to wszystko. + prawię godzinny spacer po zakurzonej drodze. Wszystkim odradzam. Chyba najgorsze miejsce jakie widziałem na trasie Senegal-Gambia
