A year ago, I became a Y member specifically to utilize the pool. This is now the second time this week alone that the pool has been closed “due to weather conditions” despite the fact that: 1.There was no lighting/thunder at the time, 2. There were no closure announcements/notices on the Y website, swim schedule, or social media, and 3. The pool schedule had no cancellation notices. Today, July 1, at 3:30 p.m., I arrived to do lap swim (which was on the schedule and not noted as canceled). After I had changed and walked over, the door was locked and the pool was empty. When I went out to ask a staff member about the closure, I saw a sign that said “The pool is closed due to weather conditions,” despite the fact there had been no lighting/severe weather today. After asking a staff member, I was told there are no lifeguards, so the pool is closed for the rest of the day. I understand that the Y is experiencing staffing shortages. I would 100% understand if the Y has to enact limited swim hours due to a lack of available lifeguards. However, I believe the Y should better communicate these closures by keeping their website up to date on cancellations or hour changes. Y memberships can be pricy, and for the amount I’m paying solely to use the pool, I wish closures were better communicated. I’m very appreciative of the Y and its staff but also want to communicate this issue as I am not the only member impacted by this.

Since I have the membership it has been a pleasure going to the Y. The gym is fantastic very clean and maintained. The bathroom is good and have liquid soap for the shower 🚿. The pool is also.nice the water should be a little bit more hot for the kids but that's ok. So far so very good 👍😊

Overall I Love this Y. I like the culture of how they greet everyone . It’s a friendly environment and clean . However ...lacking in size in comparison to surrounding Ys Though there may not be room for more expansion but this Y needs a serious make over of it’s dated and old pool. Howard County Multiple Pools Clean. And a Sauna Pasadena’s out door pools are enormous .. It never smells like chlorine The women’s locker room is like a spa What is upsetting to me is the dated and old pool environment at the Catonsville Y It’s chlorine level is so high the ventilation not comfortable It seems totally unhealthy. . Catonsville is a swimming town with multiple private swim clubs and devoted swimmers. our Y is not a strong reflection of that. At the very least ....Please open the doors and get some windows put in .

Nice and clean entry area. I visited the pool area today with my 3 kids for family swim. Pool area is very nice. It only has 2 family showers but luckily is was not busy today so we were able to get one without a wait. The shower floors could be cleaned as there was hair in a lot of places and it was only 11am. The lifeguards were nice and seemed aware of all the kids in the facility. The kids loved the pool area. They also had 4 lap lanes in addition to eh 2 family lanes.

I am a new member and new to the state of Maryland. Everyone is super nice and I do aqua therapy because of orthopedic issues and upcoming surgeries. I am a senior citizen and everyone makes me feel welcome. The YMCA in Washington state has a hot tub and a lazy river which is great for walking against the current. There is no real place to walk laps so I have improvised by doing jumping jacks and jogging in place. I have a routine using the resistance bell bars and the noodle. I even have done some lap swimming which surprised me! I'm not the fastest in the pool, but I enjoy my work outs. I'm going to check out the Aqua Arthritis workout session tomorrow!

I work with month to month leases. I am aware people don’t always look at their leases. One point in my lease is giving notice. We state we must receive a 15 day notice. Do people do this? No, most of the time they don’t. We still don’t penalize them. YMCA? States you must give 30 days notice. So although I haven’t used my membership for various reasons, I went to cancel my membership. They took payment from me last week. Less then a week. I went to cancel and they stated since I didn’t give 30 days, they will charge me again next month! I think this extremely unethical. But can’t be illegal because they state it in their lease. Not going to be a member again.

I've had a wonderful first few weeks as a Y member. This is the first time I've joined a Y as a family. My kids have really enjoyed the free climb nights, family swim and they also loved Fit & Fun, with Austin as their leader. I'm really enjoying BodyPump in the early mornings with Deb because this is the only time I can get to the gym by myself. The staff at the front desk, especially Arnette, are wonderful. The cozy fire was so nice to sit next to during Open Climb the other night. I just wanted to stay a while, it was so welcoming. I even took a Family activity take-home activity for my boys and they had fun doing it at home. I appreciate the family bathrooms so much having opposite-gendered young children (age 7-8), it just takes all the stress out of wondering if they are going to get the shower to work/not make it too hot, get dressed timely, goof around, etc. in the boys locker room by themselves. I've already started the process of taking advantage of FitQuest and I'm happy to say that the Y environment and staff have motivated me to build my health and wellness routine. I've never gone to a gym regularly before so this is huge for me.

This gym is bright with large windows giving lots natural light. It’s quiet, allowing you to listen to your choice. The equipment is clean and are well maintained. I enjoy watching deers in their habitat while I’m on the their treadmills. The staff are cheerful and welcoming. Open 7 days a week and opens at 5 am week days until 9 pm.

I love the Y in Catonsville! It is a very welcoming place and the equipment is always kept in good condition. The pool is also very nice, and the group classes are all included in the membership.

Too many glitches in scheduling activities for members- Recent error:: Scheduled Signup spots opening for activities for January 2024 is to start on 1/08/2024 at 7am for swimming & others but when I went on website to schedule a swimming class, spots for January 2024 swiming for level 3/4 were already filled and states “ FULL” for Catonsville/ Ellicott city Centers. When talked to Supervisor for this issue he said it’s Corporate issue and its done from their end and he cant do anything about it. This is happening too much specially in Catonsville center- last year pool cleaning was abruptly started and swimming lessons were credit back. Now I hv to take swim lesson in March due to lack of Discipline from Corporate and no work is done on it. Otherwise Center is too Clean and very friendly- cheers for that.

Always a friendly greeting, helpful and courteous service, bright daylight lit workout space, excellent healthy airflow and temperature control, clean sanitized and well-maintained equipment, most patrons and staff are respectful of each other and the need to keep equipment sanitized for everyone's health.

I enjoy coming to this location a working out. It’s usually not crowded and it seems to cater to the seniors in the area. I usually come early morning. I have noticed a difference in coming weekdays vs weekends. The weekends the staff greets/ acknowledges you coming and going. The weekdays is completely different.

Today, as me and my 4 years old daughter came out of family pool time we headed up to the playroom for 5 minutes. I was standing there. Just the time to wait for my husband to pick us up. The lady working at the desk was literally looking towards my daughter and complaining to the other workers that they will have to clean up the mess. My daughter was playing with the costumes for a couple minutes. At the end she asked her to clean up or that I should clean up?!? 3 costumes?!? Why? How does that work when they have 5 or 6 or 7 kids there playing with everything age 1 and 2 while their parents are working out?! Does she makes them clean the whole playroom before going to their parents? She is unkind and limit abusive the way she complain about kids playing there. Is she serious? I thought it was a joke at first. I will not be coming back to the y of Catonsville. Change your staff.

All the locations I’ve been to are very clean and I love that so much. I’m happy that our children have the space and opportunity to live a more active life as members. The staff members are very friendly!

Sense of community. I have worked at a couple of gyms in Central Maryland and recently we were members of Columbia association. I was looking for that same sense of belonging. Mary Grace take care of me from day one! So glad to become a member. Our first night there as a family our youngest son had a total breakdown crying because he didn’t want to leave. That’s a good sign!

Great place to workout. Decent pool. Remodeled within the past 8ish years. Stay-n-play provides child care for parents to workout. Associates are extremely nice. Family swim is indispensable during the cold winter months when you need to get out of the house.
