This as by far the best experience i had so far in Srilanka. Climbing this rock from the tempel. No one there, it was just me and all these wonderful views. Don't miss out on this great opportunity. And just in front of the stairs, leading you to the tempel, there is an womens initiative who are wieving beutiful textiles. Chech them out.

Although it is quite difficult to reach the top by going through the jungle environment, you can finally see a beautiful view of the Victoria reservoir and other mountain ranges from the top of Pettigala... It’s a short, interesting hike through woods, but the view is just fascinating. You see the Victoria Reservoir when you climb to the top of the mountain. There’s a fine breeze and the feeling at the top is totally worth it. On the rainy days, the route is slippery, so don’t forget to wear your hiking shoes. No tickets issued.

Anyone interested in thrilling adventure should visit this place. It's recommended to avoid rainy days as there's no proper road to climb this rock. You need to have some Tarzan skills to climb the final part of the rock. But that's not that difficult. There are friendly dogs on your way to top. I would recommend you guys to take some food for them if possible.

After you arrive to the bambaragala temple, you can park your vehicles in the temple. Just follow the stpes which lie and you'll get to the entrance to pettigala, it's a bit strenuous hike, male sure to get some water bottles and something to eat. Top view is very beautiful. Make sure while you go back to digana stop at NLDB outlet.

Pettigala is a beautiful hill close to Victoria reservoir. This hill is also known as Bambaragala kanda. However, it is famous as Pettigala because of its shape. If you are planning to visit here you should search Bambaragala kanda ancient temple, instant pettigala . Because the path starts through the temple premises. This place is located close to Nuwara-Mahiyanganaya road. Take off from digana junction and continue on Victoria golf club road at least 4.7km. Reaching the Bambaragala Temple premises is easy. You can reach there via any kind of vehicle and able to park at temple premises. (Bike, Car, Van, and even Bus). You have to inform the temple authority before entering the Pettigala hill as per safety precaution. It's hard to say that this is easy hiking. Because you have to find the path in the jungle and you have to climb with a help of a rope at two locations. (A rope is placed already) and of course, it's hard to say there are suitable spacing for camping. This hike is good for one-day adventure hiking. But remember to carry all necessary items such as enough water and food because there is no place to refill your water bottle. The View at the top is so attractive. You can see many of the mountain range and of course the Victoria reservoir too. Pettigala is placed middle of Victoria reservoir and many mountain ranges. It is sad to say Pettigala is been destroyed by our actions. There are too many Polyethene, Beer Cans, Arrack bottles are left on the hill. We didn't prepare for a sramadana campaign but we manage to bring the trach which is lest at the top as we can. So, I kindly request if you are planning to go there, please don’t drop anything you brought.

Pettigala is located in Kandy district, Digana area. If you are planning to go by bus you have to take Senerathwela bus from Digana town. And before get off from the bus driver which time is there another bus. So, you can how much time you have to spend there. First thing you can see is there is a small shop on the left side but do not sure about that shop because it is not open everyday. So you better take your foods, and water bottles with you. You can see the Bambaragala Raja Maha Viharaya entrance. When we enter the temple you can see come caves on the left side. You have to go up to end of the rock stairs and then you can find old temple. You can visit there and there are some old drawings inside the temple. After that you can find a path to go up surrounding by trees and rocks. You can start your hike from there. It is not a dangerous hike, but pay more attention if you are planning to go during raining days because during the raining days the path is somewhat slippery. There is an amazing view from the top of the Pettigala. You can see 360Β° view in the top area. It is a beautiful area.

Pettigala also known as bambaragala is located just about 5 kilometers from digana town. The bambaragala temple is at the base of pettigala and you have to go through the temple premises at the start of the climb. It’s better to inform someone in the temple if you’re are climbing the bambaragala. The road condition is excellent and any vehicle can reach to bambaragala temple. You can park the vehicle near the temple and start the hike. There is a bus on every 45 minutes from digana town to the nearby village back and forth. The hike is very easy. It takes about 45 minutes and there is a clear footpath until the top. There were some ropes tangled at the hard points points of the hike. You can have a 360 degree view around every direction when you reach the top because this is an isolated mountain (not a mountain range). The top is a flat rock that look likes a box. The Victoria reservoir, Victoria dam, mountains in VRR, Hanthana mountain range, Knuckles range, Hunnasgiriya, Piduruthalagala side and etc can be seen.

It's very nice place to hiking. Go early in the morning for hiking. Easiest way to go to pettigala is go to digana town and take a tuk tuk. It's somewhat hard to hike. You can go to the top about in 30-45 minutes. To enter mountain you have to go through babaragala raja maha wiharaya( babaragala temple). It's very ancient temple. Don't forget to worship the temple. It has very ancient drawings. And also before enter the mountain you have to get permission from the temple. Don't worry they are very social. Don't hesitate to talk to them. In the mountain there's a cave with ancient drawings (sithuwam lena). It's hard climb the mountain but I'm sure you won't worry about it. Top view of the mountain is amazing. You can watch amazing 360Β° view from there. Go and watch it. After climb hill you can have a bath from Victoria reservoir. But be careful. Ask someone before go to if you can't find safe place. Go and enjoy your hike. 😊πŸ”₯

This mountain is located in Kandy Theldeniya area and the path to this hike starts inside from the Bambaragala Purana Raja Maha Viharaya. It will take some time to reach the top because the hike is not very easy. There’s no proper foot path leads to the top so you have to guess the road and go. However the spectacular view from the peak is absolutely beautiful. Make sure to take enough water bottles with you.

How To Get To Pettigala From Kandy The Pettigala hike is located approximately 20 kilometers from Kandy in the Pethiyagala Teldeniya District. However, since most people tend to stay in Kandy, I'll provide directions from here. By far, the best and most convenient option to get to the Pettigala hike from Kandy is to take the public bus. I suggest walking to the central Kandy Market Bus Stop, where there are dozens of buses departing on different routes. Ask for a bus to "Digana." There should be a bus departing every 30 minutes or so. This bus route travels east along the Mahaweli Ganga and stops at several small villages en route to Wegala. Overall, expect a 45-minute bus ride from Kandy to Digana. Once you arrive, you can pay a rickshaw driver to take you the remaining 5 kilometers to the Bambaragala Purana Rajamaha Viharaya Buddhist Temple (the start of the Pettigala hike). However, instead of getting a rickshaw, we decided to walk from Digana, which only took us about 45 minutes. We followed the length of Victoria Gold Club Road before arriving at the stone steps of the Buddhist Temple.

Awesome location in Teldeniya. Short and rocky hike up the hill through lush foliage and cool shadiness of the trees and wines but a tiny bit challenging because it's a rocky trail all the way up. You need to pass through a Buddhist temple to start on the trail to the Pettigala rock. There are two caves to look at along the way and one with an ancient art pattern stamped onto the rock ceiling on plastered clay. Pettigala, once known as Pethiyagala, is a hiking area situated in Teldeniya in the Kandy district. It is a moderately tall mountain standing atΒ 760m, with an altitude variation of 200m, in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Breathtaking scenery at the top, a must do short hike for all travel enthusiasts and hikers. πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

Actually it's a temple area. You should get permission from chief incumbent and you cam enter to this forest. Note that there are some buddist munks staying for there meditations. Don't disturb for them and don't bring any drugs for this area. Within one hour you can travel to the peak of this mountain. It is 360' view point. Enjoy your hike.

Pettigala Kandy is a hiking area located in the Pethiyagala Teldeniya District near Kandy, Sir Lanka. Read this complete guide to the Pettigala hike for epic views in the Sri Lankan Central Highlands, as well as a stop at the incredible Bambaragala Buddhist Temple. After cruising down the idyllic surf-coast of Sri Lanka’s West Coast, it was time to head up into the highlands. If you read some of my other travel guides and adventure blogs, then you already know that I prefer to hit the hills and the trails than hang out on the beach. So, as soon as we arrived in Kandy, we set out in search of any hiking opportunities. The Pettigala hike near Kandy for me was a much-needed, refreshment that offered views that well and truly exceeded my expectations! In this quick guide, I’ll run through how to get to the Pettigala trailhead, as well as a bit of information on and photos of the Bambaragala Buddhist Temple at the start of the hike.
