Another coffee trip for tourists. Don't trust your Tuc Tuc driver. Either you come here because you feel like it and at best you know your way around, otherwise they'll talk your head off and you'd better stay away from the place. First, they start with a 15-minute video, alone in a room with about 150 seats and a projector. The video alone almost put me to sleep after 5 minutes. Then it's off to the production department, where the stones are cut, polished and honed. That was the most interesting part of this coffee trip. However, the prices are absurd and exorbitantly expensive. I am surprised that although the prices are so high, the instruments and machines are in very bad conditions. Either not so many people buy here because of the high prices or the whole profit goes into one pocket. Tradition or not, 500 USD for a simple melting furnace would not be a big investment at these prices. All in all, this shop is very sus to me. Most of the positive reviews here are of non-western origin. While most of the western ones are negative. Well, just ask yourself why...

One of the most interesting places since you get to know the story of gem collection from the river and land for a 3 generation very professional family business. Make sure you take the tour to see the hands on work shaping the gems and buy yourself something nice to remember, for a cheaper price than the normal shops.

It was a good jewellery shop which showed us how the gems were actually polished and dug out of earth. Must visit if you have come to Kandy.

Fantastic free tour, began with an interesting video about Sri Lankan gem mining followed by an exhibition of local and foreign gemstones. We also saw the craftsmen making jewellery in a workshop onsite. Opportunity to buy handcrafted jewellery for a reasonable price. Notable thank you to Pasindu for his wealth of knowledge and hospitality with a cup of tea.

Excellent service, nice shopping We had holidays in Sri Lanka. And also we were planning to buy some gems in Kandy. As we did not know anyone there, I had to read many reviews online for different gem shops. Finally we filtered out most of them and visited Gamini. First we discussed our concerns regarding fake stones and overpriced items. Sumith, was guy who met us there. He answered our questions in a calm and patient way. He introduced himself and described their family business, which started years ago. Then he presented us items, which we were looking for. This was done in relaxed atmosphere with no pressure at all. I had a nice cup of coffee as well. As a result, we bought 5 items with great discounts. They gave invoice and certificate for each item. Thanks!

It's a very slick business. You should stop by if you want to buy quality jewelry from a renowned house. But their guided tours are purely promotional: a 15 mins scripted vid from a mine and an installation of different types of gems will lead straight to the sales. Prices are rather high too

Such a great place having a variety of gems and stones. Prices are a bit higher but items are valuable. The 10 minutes research video shown by the staff is very well explained about the processes involved in searching the gems and stones. Must visit and purchase something ....!!

If you simply want to window shop or browse don't go here, it's not that sort of place. I went with my lady, the presentation showing mining, the demonstration of lapidary was all very impressive. We bought a pink sapphire for £480 and had a 14 ct ring made for £200. Upon return to the UK my local jeweller confirmed the sapphire to be "correct" and said that the ring alone would have cost £400 in the UK. He estimated the value of the ring at £1000. Tips - don't be overrawed by the hard sell, don't feel compelled to buy, don't be afraid to bargain and haggle. We are delighted with out purchase. Not "cheap" but slightly cheaper than the UK and a nice momento of our holiday.

Handuni's Gems in Sri Lanka offers an exceptional gem-buying experience that is marked by an exemplary staff, with a special mention to Mr. Sumith Pushpakumara. His expertise stands out as he not only assisted us in our purchases but also provided comprehensive education on gems. Mr. Pushpakumara went the extra mile, offering examples of gems of varying qualities and imparting knowledge about the mining procedures. The guided tour of the workshop, where skilled jewelers and designers operate, added a valuable layer to our understanding. The warmth and hospitality extended by the owner, Mr. Gamini, and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Nandani, were noteworthy. Their welcoming demeanor made us feel like family throughout our visit. The genuine care and personalized attention contributed significantly to the positive atmosphere of the gem shop. It is evident that Handuni's Gems is committed to transparency, with no hint of fraudulent practices. I highly recommend Handuni's Gems to anyone seeking genuine and high-quality gemstones. The combination of an informed and attentive staff, educational insights, and the warm hospitality of the owners makes it a standout gem shop in Sri Lanka.
