Dissapointed Stunned with the food and service. Do read the detailed review below. I am starting with our experience on each dish before decided to get up and walk away. Cosmopolitan Priced at 1400 Lkr and was smaller than a standard martini glass and had very little alcohol in it. A complete waste of money with 0 presentation. Lion Beer Prices between 500 – 550 was only 350 ml and the glasses were so small that we laughed. At this point we still continued to enjoy ourselves and decided to place the order for the balance food. We were there to stay the whole day and continuously order so we started with the following The Margherita Pizza Same thin crust pizza so the standard was good, but with practically no cheese. Disappointing to see it served that way when the one thing I enjoyed here was their pizza. The portion of French fries This was good enough for an infant to eat. For the price that they charged I was surprised to see a little over 20 French fries in there. Yes my friends I counted them The hot butter cuttlefish 1100 plus… was served in a size of a side plate. And did not even taste good. Sloppy servings, small quantity and just amazed. This is were we pulled the plug and decided to head to “the station” located just off Wellawatta. Located in Mount Lavenia, this was a location I loved visiting. Great ambience, on the beach, calming interior and makes you feel like you are at a high end beach shack with a lovely beer in my hand and a cocktail in my wife’s and amazing company was always the right fit. Though much higher in price compared to the areas around and even the five star hotels down the road, this used to be a perfect chill out location. Visited again after a while and was still amazed to see the interior had been kept spick and span and up to its standards. Prices however I was not too sure if they had gone up or not but was looking forward to enjoying ourselves. Went wit ha group of 4 and 2 kids and our visit went like this. The ladies wanted to enjoy a nice cocktail and the waiter took our order down and returned after 5 minutes saying that there is nor Rum or Tequila, so they are unable to make a majority of the cocktails. So my wife decided to go for the cosmopolitan and the rest of us decided to go for beers. After getting the plate of hot butter cuttlefish we decided to up and leave to the station.

Perfect place to chill during sunset. Great ambiance and sea view. Service needs to be improved more. Staff are not attentive and take so much of time to serve. Also one of the mains ordered was not served as they have missed it when taking the order. So we had to wait 1.5 hours to get the food which was disappointing. Loved the crab kottu! Club sandwich was basic though and wasn’t worth for the price (you can make a better club sandwich at home probably lol). Cocktail weren’t the best for that price. Overall it cannot be recommended!

Tasty food, but a little on the expensive side. You can't beat being on the beach and right next to the train tracks though. There are some places with better atmosphere around, but the food is far better here.

Good beach hangout close to Colombo, you can enjoy the beach, have a beer or cocktails. Breakfast, lunch or dinner with cool vibe music inside or out without being hassled. Kids friendly

Nice ambience, good service and a great beach. They allow pets as well. Have both indoor and outdoor (on the beach) seating. The only disappointment was the pizza we ordered. For it to be called a Margherita pizza it should have basil leaves but it was served with chopped up lettuce and the cuttlefish hardly had cuttlefish but the batter. Would rate the rest of the dishes as good. Had dinner and breakfast here it is surely a nice relaxing place. During the evening we went they had a DJ playing music. Hope this review will help them in getting the ingredients corrected and served as advertised.

Sugar beach is a restaurant which is near the mount Lavinia beach. It is a beachside cafe down south surrounded by beautiful palm dotted beaches. Sugar beach is a beautiful restaurant near the beach which serves great delicious food and powerful cocktails. Many tourists love this place to chill under the shade and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee by overlooking turquoise water of beautiful Indian Ocean. This restaurant provides the beach side dining experience with an amazing surroundings.

They have such a lovely atmosphere. We went there in the evening and the place is so chilling with the sea wind and relaxing sunset view. We ordered a devilled chicken pizza and a wok fried garlic prawn plate from their food menu and two cocktails from their beverage menu. Food was also good and their cocktails also great. Good place for couples and friends to hangout specially in the evening.

Been here couple of times and we had quality time with the food as well as the relaxed ambience. Love their black pork kottu and crab kottu to the moon and back !

Great ambience. A very calm setting with a sea view is all what you can ask for. The lighting is just perfect with minimal candle lights. Disappointed with the food and music. The pizza wasn’t a pizza at all in the first place. It was actually a naan with very few pieces of chicken on top. Very disappointed with the price and the plate served. The live music 🎶 was horrible. Too loud for the small place that it’s not clear and also was too loud that you can’t even place your order without the the waiters mixing it up. The juice and the desserts were really good.

Highly recommended for any kind of meetups. Located near Mount lavinia beach. Parking space available. (Need to pay) You need to park it and then cross the railway to enter the restaurant. Food is good and lot of variety available too. Prices are bit of above average but worth with the portion they serve. DJ is available too. Have the access to the beach as well. Overall good experience and recommend for everyone.

This is a chilling place with a decent spread of food and beverages. Loved their Amberella juice which tasted heavenly. Their food was good too but the prices are not very reasonable.

Came here for my birthday, a nice place to chill out. I love the aesthetic island vibe and feel the restaurant gives. The staff are really friendly as well! Only problem is the food can improve as with compared to the prices. :)

One of the restaurants we go to regularly because unlike lot of restaurants the food is not over priced. And there is ample space for Parking. Very calm place with a cleaned , large beach area. But only just to touch the water the waters too rough for a swim.

Food is still fantastic. They have done well for Covid too. The cutlery comes in small hygienic packs etc. Tables are 6 feet apart etc. Lovely place to come and hang out..They have an outside shower so of you do decide to get into the sea there is a convenient place to chowder and change.

Try out the Chicken Devil Pizza. Good level of spices. However the watermelon juice was a bit bland but the Mango juice was pretty good.

I haven't physically visited the restaurant, not my vibe, but ordered via Uber. I love Sugar's fusion food in general, and you can see review my other reviews in the respective restaurants. I have been craving for their yellow rice for sometime, and tried for the first time today. It was delicious, and value for money in my own opinion and for their premise and their target audience. The yellow rice with pork was so good. The rice was fragrant and fresh, the pork was tasty and a good quantity, chutney, friend potatoes dish, moju, onion salad etc with papadam - all just really balanced, served separately (bonus points for this!). Well done, kudos to the Sugar team!

Nice place to hang around in free time. Place is very calm which placed near to southern railway track and mount lavinia beach. You have have a sun bath too. Foods and beverages are bit expensive and you have to reserve your table in advance.

Excellent place for spending an afternoon with amazing sunset. Went for couple of chilled beers, but decided to stay for sunset that is right infront of the bar! Tried hot buttered cuttlefish and crab kottu and was pleasantly surprised!! Would come back for the Crab Kottu itself, needles to say for good vibes & music for sunset and friendly staff!

It’s a beautiful place. Right next to a railway track and near to the beach. Love the vibe. A good place to hangout specially the evenings are gorgeous. Fish and chips dish was on 🔥. It was soo good. Friendly staff. They treat the customers well. The washroom is near to the railway track it’s so fun when you’re in it and a train goes by.

I went on a Monday. The vibe, music and atmosphere was not that great. The food was not up to standard as it was used to be. Was not tasty and the quality wasn’t good. Also there was not much selection in the menu to choose. The staff were friendly.

Worst experience ever had in beach restaurant. We had ordered two things from the menu and those was not available even. Poor service and so delay to serve. Highly dissatisfied. Portions weren't worthy for price we paid.

Enjoyed the evening very much. The staff made the necessary arrangements for my friends an I to surprise our friend for her birthday. I thankful for the staff and the food was pretty good.

Food was delicious, portions were generous, great location. No complaints about the service. At the time we dined, dessert options were very limited, maybe because it was passed 10.30pm. Or maybe due to current situation.

An ideal place to chill out in the evening while enjoying the sunset. Would recommend an outdoor table as you can dip your toes in the sand while enjoying your drink or meal. Tried one of their pizzas and a crab koththu and they were delicious. Ordered a few Mocha Iced Coffees but they were not chilled enough which was a bit disappointing. Even though the atmosphere and the food was great, the customer service was extremely unsatisfactory. Had to wait over half an hour for a menu as we had to ask three staff members as each one kept forgetting. Would not complain about it but at the same time one of the families seated right next to our table who appeared to be a regular customer kept getting served while no attention was given by the staff to our table which is not expected from a restaurant like Sugar Beach. Even though bad customer service was received at the table, the old gentleman welcoming people at the door does a way better job at ensuring a good customer experience.

Worst parking experience

Lovely setup! Although many families come there to enjoy the beach, but the music is loud and pumping making it hard to hear yourself or your children speak. Asked them several times if they could turn down the volume as the baby was very uncomfortable but they said that it was dj night and offered that we sit outside where the table was lower and the kids couldn't eat without spilling the food. Great pizzas! And if you're lucky you get good fries or churros that aren't over fried. Not a fan of the rest of the menu which has potential to be better when it comes to taste. Somehow even poached eggs doesn't taste as great as it could. Terrible service. The couple of staff from the old team are still efficient and courteous, but the rest are slow and insolent - if they can't hear you (which is most times because of the loud music), they will frown and say "ah?" Instead of a simple "sorry?". You can wave at the waiters hanging around at the bar but you only get service if you go up to them and ask them for what you need (or if you pull your weight, speak to them arrogantly or drop names - then they're effusive to the point of absurdity). Always a good idea to check your bill because sometimes they dont have what you want and offer an alternative but bill you for what they dont have as well (like the time they didnt have churros, suggested some chocolate pie type dessert which was quite disappointing instead and then billed my sister for the 3 orders of churros + the chocolate dessert). All in all 2 stars. Great potential due to location and branding if the food can be less pretentious and the service improves.

Yesterday we had dinner at Suger Beach. The atmosphere here is so nice. It has some Ibiza vibes. The staff is friendly l. While we where waiting for the food, our toddlers where playing in the sand and watching the sunset. This place is unique because you have a nice sea view and on the other side you can see the train passing by. The food itself is very good. I had the Sri Lanka style crab curry and I think it’s the best dish I had in Sri Lanka so far. When it’s getting dark the put candlelight on the table which gives this place a magical touché. Highly recommend this place.

Wonderful place to spend the evening and eat dinner. Super cool atmosphere. They light candles in the night which make the place magical. They have a great collection of wines. The staff is very good in serving wine. Also, they are friendly and providing a fast service. They have a good menu including pizza, burgers, kottu and snacks. The pizza wasn’t that great. Too dry and low cheese. Not taste good. Their crab kottu was great. This place can be recommended for anyone who wants to have a great time out from the home.

The place is getting back on its feet after being shut down for many months, and is a little run down. But this doesn't get it the way of them providing a good experience for their customers. Great place to get together with a group of friends, there's enough space for social distancing, and the establishment follows all the health guidelines as well.

I recently visited Sugar Beach Restaurant and had a mixed experience. The atmosphere was delightful, creating a pleasant dining environment. However, I found the food to be quite expensive, and the service was lacking. The staff seemed to prioritize other tasks over attending to customers, resulting in a lengthy wait time for placing orders and receiving food. While the ambiance is commendable, improvements in pricing and customer service would enhance the overall dining experience..

Disappointed to say the least. The place looked like it has been through a world war. Looks like the owners want this place to shut down. The food was below average. We ordered a portion of fish and chips, half and half deviled chicken and margarita pizza and a couple of cappuccinos. Fish and chips: Bland and not tasty at all. Even the sauce couldn’t save it. Pizza: probably the worst pizza I had. Such a let down. And it didn’t look appetizing at all. Cappuccinos: Don’t even get me started on this. Milk Coffee we get in a “Dansala” is way better than this. It was just milk, there was not even a hint of a coffee in it. Only upside was the view of the beach and the atmosphere was somewhat okay. Staff was friendly. Service was quick but then again there wasn’t many people so the staff wasn’t busy. All in all it was a mediocre and a below average experience. Wouldn’t recommend at all. PS: we finished everything we ordered because at the end of the day it’s our money and we have to pay for it.

Went on a Saturday night for dinner. The atmosphere was good and place look nice! However the service wasn’t great. We ordered an ice coffee and after dinner they asked do you want the ice coffee now. Had to asked for water for about 3 times! Maybe coz they were busy but the service was not great at that time. Tried a Deviled Chicken pizza but there were only 20 small pieces of chicken in the pizza. Batticaloa prawn curry, with yellow rice which is good, but nothing to write home about. Overall food and service was not good but the atmosphere and the place looks lovely.

The ambiance was charming and providing a delightful setting for dining. However, I found the pricing of the food to be on the higher side, the taste of the food and drinks to be average and the service left much to be desired. There was a extended waiting time to receive our meals and drinks. Definitely need to improve the service of the staff.
